FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NuFunk.ca brings One Love across Canada in tribute to reggae giant Bob Marley Announcing the Bob Marley Birthday Tribute 2009 Canadian Tour featuring: House of David Gang, King Selah, High Plains Drifter & DJ ?uesquecest more! Fri Feb 6: Collingwood, ON @ JD’s Bar & Grill * Sat Feb 7: Toronto, ON @ Lee’s Palace * Wed Feb 11: Montreal, QC @ House of Reggae * Thu Feb 12: Fredericton, NB @ The Cellar Pub * Fri Feb 13: Saint John, NB @ The Blue Olive * Sat Feb 14: Halifax, NS @ The Seahorse Tavern * Sun Feb 15: Glace Bay, NS @ The Savoy Theatre (Complete show details below) **** January 19, Toronto ~ One of Canada’s rising concert promotion stars, Toronto-based NuFunk.ca, is proud to announce the dates for its Bob Marley Birthday Tribute Canadian Tour – honouring the life of the immortal reggae legend who would have been 64 years of age on February 6. From its origins as a single Toronto club date, this fourth edition will be 7-night celebration stretching from Collingwood on the shores of Georgian Bay to Glace Bay in Cape Breton Island. “This tour is shaping up as something truly special,†says tour promoter Jay Cleary, artistic director of NuFunk.ca. “Not only has it grown in terms of the number shows for the fourth straight year, but we’re connecting with food banks in communities around the country in order to help people in need. To me, that represents the true spirit and legacy of Bob Marley, giving of ourselves so that others may find inspiration and prosper.†The tour will be headlined by one of Canada’s top roots reggae collectives House of David Gang. Formed in Toronto over 15 years ago, the band’s specialty is the timeless and classic Jamaican reggae of the 1970s and early 80s, the sound that made Bob Marley the first international superstar of reggae music. Fronted by seasoned reggae veteran King Selah, the band includes members of a who’s who of the Toronto reggae scene: Resinators, Irie Band, Explorer Band, Revelation, Selassie I Power and many others. For the past 15 years King Selah and the House of David Gang have hosted Toronto tributes to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, which have helped bring light to the city’s burgeoning reggae community. Joining core members Jah-Lin (drums) and The High Plains Drifter (guitar) for this tour will be two exciting new additions who promise to push the House of David sound to new heights -- James Gray (formerly of Blue Rodeo) on keyboards and bass thumper Chis Bottomley (Tulpa, The Look People, Brainfudge, Donne Roberts). Opening on the tour is High Plains Drifter, a rootsy funk-rock and world beat ensemble whose dynamic live performances are captivating audiences across Canada. Like a traveling vagabond, High Plains Drifter is a pan-Canadian collective of musicians traveling town to town, bringing the energy of celebration to audiences everywhere. Reggae's most transcendent and iconic figure, Bob Marley brought the music of his native island nation to the world, becoming the first Jamaican artist to achieve international superstardom. Marley's music gave voice to the day-to-day struggles of the Jamaican experience, vividly capturing the plight of the country's impoverished and oppressed, its colonial-rooted political corruption and most of all the devout spirituality that is the source of strength for Rastafarians everywhere. His songs of faith, devotion, and revolution created a legacy that continues to live on – through the music of his family including sons Ziggy, Damien and Stephen and through generations of artists the world over touched by his genius. **** 2009 BOB MARLEY TRIBUTE TOUR SHOW DETAILS Fri Feb 6: Collingwood, ON @ JD’s Bar & Grill 94 Pine St. / (705) 446-0808 / www.jdsbarandgrill.ca Doors @ 9 pm $COVER FREE!! 13. yes wicked show and review. disco biscuits should have a tag line: jams hot, singing not
  14. I certainly think there's a idea out there that 'jamming' is a negative aspect of music. It's funny because the bands I like most are some of those who's best moments are in the true spirit of music of the moment. I guess it's that connection to jazz that jam music offers me.
  15. Some on mentioned this is a previous thread and although I disagree with the statement - to a degree I will have to admit that there are some mediocre singing in Jamband history.
  16. there was a show that I recently attended that said they sold Absinthe - The Rasputian on Queen - just East of Broadview. After about 4 drinks we talked to the bar maid who said - yes it is Absinthe but not the same type they serve in Europe!
  17. Great show last night.. Man these guys cannot sing!! Why do they bother!! other than that their jams are awesome. They really got trancy and deeply electronic - especially when Brownstein got on the keyboard bass. Their keyboard player was really impressive last night - spoke with DB, looks like we'll try to make another stab at bringing them to Toronto this summer.
