  1. Wassabi Collective set to preview first full length studio album on upcoming Canadian Tour www.nufunk.ca presents... FRIDAY, MARCH 23rd, 2007 WASSABI COLLECTIVE www.wassabi.net www.myspace.com/wassabicollective w/ DJ ECCODEK http://www.andrewmcpherson.ca http://www.myspace.com/eccodek and UE THE REVERB, 651 Queen St. Toronto, ON $10 Advance ( PD/RT/SS/ST/SB & Ticketweb) "Wassabi Collective is critically acclaimed as one of Canada's best live independent bands. For over five years, they have enthralled audiences from coast to coast with their dynamic, explorative jams and eclectic...soul-satisfying sound..."(Off Centre Magazine-Dec 2006,BC) WASSABI COLLECTIVE How does one describe Canada 's touring entourage The Wassabi Collective? They fuse everything from roots reggae, funk, rock, jazz, drum and bass, trance, hip hop, blues, and everything in between, wrapping it all up with their own identifiable twist that has captivated dance floors and won them legions of fans across the country. It's a mouthful of intercontinental flavours; spicy, hot and stinging sounds. After six years of intensive touring playing well over 600 hundred shows and headlining many underground festivals across the country The Wassabi Collective's determination to reach new horizons remains unmatched. The group has thrived in the face of conventional music industry wisdom; favouring a DYI approach that has won them a cult like following and sales of over 8,000 CDs off the stage, guest appearances of Juno nominated albums, televised appearances and playing to crowds in excess of 15,000. The band's solid musicianship and creative approach to fusing many genres has come to fruition with the completion of their newest release "Stories Not Forgotten." The self-produced CD, recorded in British Columbia, is their strongest and most daring work yet, in which the quintet weaves strong melodies and genre-defying sounds through the album's 11 tracks. Now with a solid Canadian March tour to promote the future release of the album, Wassabi Collective finds themselves again on the independent road to success, for them it's a road paved with determination, passion and instinct. 2. ComPosition Music & Communications proudly presents Chris Bottomley's Brainfudge with special guest Donné Roberts Ainiké (African percussion ensemble) DJ Chocolate (CKLN 88.1 FM 'Rebel Music') www.chrisbottomley.com / www.myspace.com/chrisbottomleymusic www.donneroberts.com / www.myspace.com/donneroberts www.ainike.ca www.scratchfree.ca Thursday, March 1 @ Supermarket 268 Augusta Ave. www.supermarkettoronto.com Call 416-840-0501 to make dinner reservations, highly recommended to ensure seating 9:00 pm / $10 door Since its inception in 1990, it seems as though just about everybody who's anybody in Toronto's funky groove scene has been part of Chris Bottomley's Brainfudge at one time or another. From current members James Gray, Great Bob Scott, Steve Donald and Jim Bish to occasional guest players & alumni such as Rich Underhill, Bryden Baird, Chris Gartner, and Odel Johnson; the list goes on and on through dozens of the city's best improv groovers. The one constant is the man with the funky bass groove Chris Bottomley; who first made his mark on the Canadian musical consciousness over 20 years ago with much-loved underground rock/pop bands Tulpa and the Look People, and has been playing an incredible diversity of music from the heart ever since. Funk, jazz, rock, reggae, ska, dub, African, worldbeat – it's all there in the Brainfudge sound, and it's all good. No two shows are remotely alike, such is the chemistry of the musicians who've been playing together for as long as two decades. It's always changing shape and form, yet always tight as the skin on the djembe drum that Bottomley loves to bust out. And when Brainfudge is in full flight, it's as groovy as Toronto gets. Making his first appearance with Brainfudge is one of our country's finest African-Canadian musicians Donné Roberts, whose pulsating mix of African soul & groove and European and North American rock, funk and blues guitar stylings make him a perfect new ingredient for "The Fudge". A member of the 2005 Juno Award-winning African Guitar Summit, Roberts released his own acclaimed CD 'Rhythm Was Born' in 2006 and will be touring across Canada with his band throughout 2007. Ainike is a Toronto based percussion ensemble rooted in the polyrhythmic, highly energetic music of the Malinke people of Guinea, West Africa. Meaning "thank you" in the Malinke language, Ainike performs a repertoire of traditional rhythms infused with an original sound created through the diversity of its members' musical backgrounds, the addition of non-traditional instruments and arrangements, and the influence of a modern and urban aesthetic – one which incorporates varied influences, all the while maintaining respect for the tradition of Malinke music. Spinning sweet global reggae grooves will be DJ Chocolate, one of Toronto's essential reggae DJs & party promoters; and host of 'Rebel Music' Monday afternoons from 2:30-5:00 pm on CKLN 88.1 FM.
  3. www.nufunk.ca presents... Slowcoaster www.slowcoaster.ca Vanderpark www.vanderpark.com & DJ ?uesquecest Friday, March 16th El Mocambo, 464 Spadina Ave. www.elmocambo.ca $10 SLOWCOASTER NEW ALBUM IS FINALLY DONE!! We're excited to announce our the new Slowcoaster album is complete! This will be the most complete Slowcoaster recording to date complete with 14 tracks. The songs are a selection of new (never performed live) material and old favorites (never previously recorded). For some samples, click on the media player at the top of the the band's home page. www.slowcoaster.ca Watch Slowcoaster live from the ECMAS here: http://radio.upei.ca/ecma/node/4662 Slowcoaster On the strength of their refreshing and versatile sound and intoxicatingly energetic live show, Cape Breton’s Slowcoaster have become one of the most popular jam rock bands in Canada. The members' superior musicianship enables the trio to hammer out their own brand of high energy, guitar based rock that incorporates touches of hip-hop, jazz, reggae and Afro-Cuban grooves. Guitarist / vocalist Steven MacDougall’s stellar song writing skills and evocative vocals add a defining soulful texture absent in much of today's rock music. Slowcoaster started to take shape in November 1999 when MacDougall hooked up with bassist Mike LeLievre. MacDougall brought with him a lifetime of tales which came alive in his songs. LeLievre's innovative grooves complement MacDougall's guitar work and vocals, weaving complex counterpoint melodies. Accomplished drummer Brian Talbot adds a well-considered back beat to an already rich sound. The result is an honestly written yet danceable, sing-alongable, affecting, noir-ish collection of music that is as “tight as a whip†while still accented by bursts of off the cuff humor. The past six years have seen Slowcoaster perform over 700 shows throughout Canada and be rewarded for their tireless touring with Music Nova Scotia's Alternative Group of the Year award in 2005 and the East Coast Music Association's Alternative Recording of the Year prize in 2006. In 2004 the band’s music was featured in the Bravo! documentary Air Guitar in Oulu, while singer MacDougall placed second in the 16th annual National Songwriting Contest. The band has just finished recording its third full length album to be released in April while the first single "Ex-Girlfriend" will hit the airwaves on March 15th. Tentatively titled "Future Radio" this recording is the most polished and refined collection that the band has ever produced. Honed over many months of live shows and tightened up even further over 10 weeks in the studio, the arrangements feature horns and vocal harmonies that fill out an otherwise raw guitar sound. The vibe of the album ranges from "Leave"'s soothing finger picking dirge to the hyperactive ska inspired "Rasta Flag". Longtime followers will be quick to recommend this album to their music loving friends who will finally realize what the fuss has been about all along. Vanderpark Since its inception in 2001, Vanderpark has been carving their powerful and undeniable musical influence into the Canadian music scene by standing at the frontlines of the revolution that is present in the music industry today. Two soaring harmonies are at the heart of their trademark sound, while intricately crafted songs remain their anchor. Vanderparks sonic diversity and appeal is no less than universal. Exuding palpitated grooves, weaving melodies that uplift the spirit, and rocking fist-pumping anthems, Vanderpark delivers a concert experience that is utterly unique and refreshing. The buzz surrounding the release of their debut album, All Your Hands, is spreading quickly as their active word-of-mouth fan base continues to grow. Vanderparks latest release is constantly in high demand, with the album available in stores nation-wide and online at distributors such as iTunes, HMV, MSN music service, Napster, Pure Tracks, and Star-bucks. All Your Hands highlights Vanderparks song-writing savvy, tight harmonies, and serious musicianship, while validating that these boys have a relentless appetite for progress. Up until recently, members had been attending different universities located in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal. Though this posed obvious problems for the band, it also allowed them to play in many different cities, gaining vital performing experience and knowledge of life on the road. As a result of a vigorous and intense touring that has taken the band through Central Canada and The Maritimes, Vanderpark has been receiving attention from a multitude of sources, which has not gone unnoticed. They recently opened for the legendary touring band Little Feat on the Canadian leg of their 2005 Summer Tour and have also shared the stage with triple platinum selling artists The Spin Doctors. The incredible dynamic that exists between the five members of Vanderpark is as evident as their talent. Being long-time friends that all share a love for performing, the boys of Vanderpark radiate a comfortable and familiar easiness on stage, even as their songs turn more technically demanding. This is an aspect of Vanderpark that has captured so many of their followers. Fans seem to relate to what this band does on stage, their antics, lyrics, and most importantly music. For some, its obvious that Vanderpark offers music from the soul, untainted by many of the ideals set to sail by the mainstream. Vanderpark is simply five guys trying to communicate each song as one entity. If you havent heard of Vanderpark, trust me you soon will. This is a band that cant, and wont, be ignored. The virtuous sextet skillfully weaves a sonic netting of sunshine pop, reggae, blues, funk and straight-up, uncompromising, downright catchy rock 'n' roll-all in a tightly-wound delivery that is guaranteed to keep feet tapping all night long.. - The McGill Tribune - Montreal,QC [Vanderpark] are making their mark in the music world, becoming one of the citys most popular up-and-coming bandsthe groups chemistry and long history of friendship seems to be paying off. - The Town Crier - Toronto, ON

Consisting of Vocalist - Wayne Tennant (Snow, Ivanna Santilli), Rapper - PHATT al (Len, Raggadeath), Keys - Sean Nimmons (Word People), Bass - Cam Dougall (Tom Phoolery), Guitar - Oliver Johnson (Ivanna Santilli, Glenn Lewis), Trumpet - Mark Jarvis (Big Rude Jake, Fuzzy Love), Sax - Arthur Kerekes (Monkey), and Drums - Alan Witz (Funky Hi-Life, Directions); GMMF has been widely recognized in the Toronto music scene for thier highly energetic and outstanding original music and live remixes of Funk, Soul, RnB, and Hip-Hop classics. Formed in 1996 GMMF started out as an instrumental Funk fusion experiment. As the bands popularity grew vocalists were added to increase the range of songs the band could cover. Influences such as: Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sly and the Family Stone, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, the Roots, and D'Angelo were remixed with a 'new school' sound. Now, after sharing the stage with such notable artists as Julie McKnight, Herbie Koffman, and Divine Earth Essence; And having played at North By North East, The Beaches Jazz Festival, Canadaian Music Week, countless fundraisers, and club gigs road testing the new original material to great response, GMMF has taken it to the studio. Recording their debut album, titled "God Mad Me Funky". The disc brings the pure musical energy of a live GMMF stage show combined with the superbly funky song writing of the band and lays down original recordings in the new grand tradition of the Modern Funk Movement. The first single "Subway" is set to be released to radio in Spring 2005, with the video shot by Matt Long (Ivana Santilli) @ Action Media; And has been chosen by the Parmelat Group (of Dairy Products) to be featured in their new "Pure Filter Milk" campaign. As the band tours and introduces itself to its ever growing base of Funkoknots GMMF continues the trend of the forward thinking funksters that funked the world before them. God Made Me Funky: Welcome to the House of Nu-Funk. SHAD K www.shadk.com www.myspace.com/shad Shad’s independent debut release, entitled When This Is Over is garnering rave reviews for its unique sound and lyrical ingenuity. With buzz surrounding his debut record and memorable performances, the future holds no limits for this young emcee. ROZ BELL www.doyouknowrozbell.com www.myspace.com/rozbell If you can't quite pigeonhole Roz Bell's first single, "Yesterday Man," there's good reason. There's a hint of The Police's reggae-rock in Roz's vocal delivery and the breakdown also reveals someone well-versed in hip-hop. The upbeat guitar strumming evokes a back porch sing-along, and the sad strains of the line "I'm so-oh lonely... when you leave me†could’ve been plucked from a classic country song. It's the sum total of a wildly diverse set of influences all come together on Roz’s sweet debut album, The First Sunbeams. The album was produced almost entirely by James Robertson (Esthero, Skye Sweetnam), mixed by Neal Pogue (Outkast, Citizen Cope, Transplants) and features one song, "The Greatest Tragedy," shepherded by super-A&R man/producer Jeff Blue (he discovered Linkin Park and Macy Gray). It's an album made up of short, simple stories, the boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl sort of timeless songs that are the foundation for contemporary music. Still, like every good music-loving youngster, he had to find his own music. "As a kid I was into Rick Astley, Huey Lewis, Hall and Oates, '80s pop music and stuff like that,†Roz says. "And once I found hip-hop in '87-'88 I just abandoned everything else." Hip-hop's hold on Roz went deep. He started writing rap songs at age 13 before discovering thoughtful rock in high school. Few people can so effortlessly synthesize a youth full of country records, high school rap years and an emerging singer/songwriting streak into simple, genre-defying classic pop, but that's what Roz has done with The First Sunbeams.
