CHARLIE WINSTON (Canadian Debut!) http://www.charliewinston.com/ http://www.myspace.com/charliewinston Charlie Winston is a British singer/songwriter associated with Peter Gabriel's label, Real World Records. He broke through to mainstream success in France in 2009 with the chart-topping smash hit "Like a Hobo." Born in 1978 in Cornwall, he grew up in Bungay, Suffolk, where his parents ran a hotel. He is the brother of Tom Baxter, a singer/songwriter popular in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Winston made his full-length debut with the self-produced album Make Way (2007) in association with Gabriel's Real World label. He toured with Gabriel as well. His second album, Hobo (2009), was also released on Real World. Whereas Make Way failed to find a mass audience, Hobo became a major commercial success in France, where it was released on the label Atmosphériques. The album's lead single, "Like a Hobo," topped the French singles chart. It also reached the Top Five in Belgium and the Top 30 in Switzerland. Tickets (incl. GST) $24.50 (plus FMF and service charges) 19+/General Admission Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=129041387106163&index=1 OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW www.crowmedicine.com www.myspace.com/oldcrowmedicineshow With combined sales totaling over 280,000 albums, an appearance on Austin City Limits, two performances on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, and multiple appearances on A Prairie Home Companion, various NPR programs and the Grand Ole Opry, Old Crow Medicine Show is celebrating the release of Tennessee Pusher, their third album for Nettwerk Music Group and their most personal album to date. Tennessee Pusher, produced by Don Was (Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt), features 13 infectious tracks that offer a virtual American road trip, populated with characters that seem to span a century of the South. OCMS continues to create their special blend of American roots, rock, blues and country, but on Tennessee Pusher, the band has truly found their own voice. When asked why he chose to work with OCMS, Don Was explains: “People ask me what The Old Crow Medicine Show are all about. If I’m in a hurry, I just say that they’re The Clash of bluegrass music, but that doesn’t really do anyone any justice. I could tell ‘em that they’re a rock ‘n roll band who use fiddles and acoustic guitars instead of Les Pauls and Marshal stacks, but that’s only one small part of the story. They’re an American Band - even more so than Grand Funk Railroad! In fact, it’s not hyperbolic to say that, as musicians, songwriters and singers, they are the smartest and finest purveyors of American music to come down the pike in decades.†With most of their time spent on the road, OCMS has made a name for themselves as energetic performers with an unbridled spirit. It’s a live show not to be missed.

  8. I don't think that the industry is tanking exactly, it's that in the world of supertours, they keep uping the ticket price without the artist having anything new to promote. Who really needs to see Poison, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Triumph on tour again? It's interesting that The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic and Phish often get referenced in Lefsetz newsletters. They are always heralded for their ability to draw and how hard they work to please their fans, from a cheaper ticket point of view, long show, funny zany or one of a kind moment that happens at each show that keeps the fans coming back.
  9. apparently he's still a bit of a complex figure in music... he abandoned his new album halfway through citing he wasn't feeling it. It was released anyway in a shorter format. I'd love to bring this guy to Toronto, love to hear the reviews!
