  1. Since it's in my neighbourhood, I'm thinking of hitting up The Old Nick or the New York Cafe before the show. I may just stay on the patio at Allen's and drink while waiting in line.
  2. I believe the people who drive too slow get ticketed too. Just ask my mother.
  3. Bring it on. I hate extreme speeders. Fuckers deserve what they get.
  4. Well, there's only two Canadian dates. I'm going to the Toronto show and was shocked (in a good way) when I found out where he was booked - I live around the corner from that great venue: Danforth Music Hall, Toronto - September 25th Metropolis, Montreal - September 26th
  5. Max Roach died early yesterday. I've added a few incredible youtube clips of Max, one is of his 'tribute' to Papa Jones with his hi-hat solo. I found this to be particularily amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wnW2KLWE-g Here's the Washington Post story. It's well done: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/16/AR2007081602360.html
  6. Have a great day with your family!
  7. I love Flaherty and Thomas, and all those SCTV alums. BTW, Joe is American as is Andrea Martin... although they are honourary Canadians in my books.
  8. The longer Sammy recorded with the band, the more the music became generic or predictable. Sammy had the least imput into 5150 and it's the best Van Hagar album. It trickles down a slope from there regarding Hagar's collaboration; e.g., OU812 is second best and so on. David Lee is a fucking jackass bluegrass hack, but one hell of a frontman. One of the greats in modern rock history. Unfortuately, he's done his best to tarnish his own legacy with repeated bad career moves and own self loathing.
  9. And I think that anyone that liked Deadwood will probably have a lot of fun with John From Cincinnati. Half the cast are Deadwood alums including Charlie Utter, Morgan Earp, Trixie, that Yankton fucker, Ellesworth, Wu, Wolcott and some others.
  10. I think either History or Showcase is carrying the complete series in September, unedited. Keep in mind each episode ran around 50 minutes with some episodes well over an hour - all without commercial breaks, thus watching the show with commercials on History could be frustrating since the breaks will be easily 4 minutes long or longer depending if they want packaged episodes to run 90 minutes.
  11. One of the best things about Deadwood is that most of the characters are based on the people that resided in Deadwood at the time. Calamity Jane was a famous resident and Al Swearengen did indeed own a saloon and was even more ruthless in real life. George Hearst (William Randolph's father and Patty's great-grandfather also did prospecting there). Gerald McRaney makes one hell of a Hearst. Seth Bullock was from Etobicoke and was the sheriff and was friends with Sol. Wild Bill Hickock, Morgan and Wyatt Earp were all actual residents of Deadwood. Even the weasel hotel manager EB Farnum actually worked in Deadwood. The language is accurate for the times too - which makes for an often difficult night of TV - but some of the cuss words have been updated. Creator David Milch had to use substitutes since the Old West swear words don't have the same impact in the 21st century.
  12. Wu, the "Chinaman" as Al calls him (as does everyone else in the Deadwood camp) knows only these words: "Swidgen" - which is his name for Al Swearengen "Cocksucker" "San Francisco cocksucker" Calamity Jane: "I woke up in a cemetary".
  13. Bob, I'm very sorry to hear about this. Keep strong.
  14. I was shocked the Zaun threw out Vlady last night. I agree they need an arm behind the plate and another good hitting catcher, one that can either platoon or takeover the starting duties. What the Jays really need is for their team to hit to their potential, and I'm looking at you Wells, Glaus and Overbay... and you can't hide either Frank.
  15. The Jays are obviously finished, but let's all pull for Doc Halladay to win 20 games. He has a shot. He's leading the majors in complete games too and that ERA is shrinking. The great news for next year is that the 'current' Jays starting staff is one of the best in the AL and their bullpen can only get better.
  16. I really liked John From Cincinnati, so it's a little bittersweet that the premature ending of that crazy "Deadwood on a surfboard" show could force HBO to finish David Milch's other program (and one of the best motherfucking, cocksucking shows ever): Deadwood. HBO is getting roasted by subscribers and critics for the cancellation of many quality shows recently, including Six Feet Under, Deadwood and John From Cincinnati. All this means is that the odds of making two fucking Deadwood movies more likely than it was last year. Someone sober-up Calamity Jane. I can't wait.
  17. I remember when he got busted and then the story quietly dissapeared. Playing in the west probably helped bury the story somewhat, until now.
  18. Since this was filmed, these antics could have been staged. Still, it makes for decent TV, even with Elvira Kurt.
  19. I can't say what I was doing during the blackout, but I'll never forget it. I went to work later that day and was impressed by the generosity and general cohesiveness of the people affected in Toronto. People were directing traffic and water was being given away. All sorts of people working together really made me feel proud. One guy that was NOT a team player was my roommate Stu. He went to a pub while I unloaded all the food from the freezer into a cooler. When the power came back in my area, Stu proceeded to crank the air-conditioning. Just another nail in his coffin and our friendship.
  20. I was getting ready to get married and happy at not being at Coventry.
  21. 16. Hot Asian chicks.
  22. I meant 'along' with. It's hard to type when I'm not supposed to be on the internet at work.
