  1. I'm sure he'll convert many people into believing his claim, just like the millions that bought his electric frying-pan and are still convinced he's a reborn nice guy.
  2. Technology has upgraded so quickly in recent years that the axe on older formats was going to fall at some time.
  3. What's the source for the torrents? If they are taken from a TV station signal, then it's all the same.
  4. Global also squeezes in break after the opening credits of some shows, like King of the Hill. Back to bugs. With the proliferation of channels, you can't blame a station for having a bug. There are over 900 channels to choose from on most digital set-ups.
  5. Kev, the station logos are called bugs and the ads that scroll across the screen are called crawls. I don't like either one, but if viewers increasingly skip through commericals, then sometimes it's the only a station can effectively advertise their programs. DB, that particular promotions effect is called a squeeze. I hate them.
  6. This had been done many times. Showcase and History have done and do this and Space made a big fuss out of airing the original Star Trek uncut - and they still do. I'm surprised you don't know about the Trek on Space.
  7. Global already cuts content by adding an extra break in shows. Most commercial breaks have promos that promote their station's other programs. These will fall under the axe so stations can add more commercials, thus homegrown shows will not get promoted much anymore.
  8. This is a lazy feature from this once revered magazine. The editors clearly relied on their website database only. Many reviews have not been catalogued. I used to pour over old Rolling Stone magazines on microfiche in Douglas Library at Queen's University back in the late 80's. Two reviews come immediately to mind that still stick in my craw was their 2 star rating of the original Quadrophenia and a middling review of After The Gold Rush. You won't find any evidence online. You'll just have to take my word for it.
  9. By 2009, the CRTC is lifting all restrictions on ads in Canada, allowing stations access to 2 extra minutes of commercial time per program. Not only will promos be likely a thing of the past, but program content will be cut by two minutes. Ever watched suspiciously choppy programs on Global recently? One good thing for all HDTV owner: Analog TV has been ordered in North America to disappear by 2011.

    Toronto Pizza

The weekend Star gave the Toronto pizza institution (est. 1957) Vesuvio Pizza & Spaghetti House a middling review overall, but the pizza is still good. The place is located at 3010 Dundas West at High Park. For some other good pizza suggestions, try Star approved Olympic 76 at Yonge and Gloucester and Terroni (various locations in the GTA). Also recommended is Diplomatico in Little Italy. I can vouch for it being a great pizza. Hey, I'm from Kingston and we Kingstonians are/were weaned on terrific pizza.
  11. Since it is a bluesfest, I'm thinking (hoping) that Van will lay down some nasty delta-styled blues like he did with his collaborations with John Lee Hooker.
  12. It was a great night last night. Happy birthday once again.
  13. I don't have a cellphone. Never have and I really don't want one.
  14. I'm off to headymamamyrna's house in an hour to celebrate her eldest's birthday. Jamming with the birthday boy Booche, Bouche and Dave-O will go on to 'til the wee hours of the morning.
  15. I saw the interview on TSN. Happy belated birthday by the way!
  16. I love the bluesy rawness of Two From... plus Pigpen sang and played like a man possessed by the Devil that lurks around highways 61 & 49 in Clarksdale.
  17. Phenominal performance and nice solo by Ward.
  18. Have a great one Marc. Booche's b-day celebration is on Saturday and we'll hoist a few to celebrate your big day too.
  19. I tried to get you this M Ward album for your birthday, but the four stores I went to didn't have it. Jim James sings back-up on one song and it will bring tears to your eyes, as will the rest of this beautiful tribute:
  20. Jim James and M Ward are a duo made in heaven.
