  1. Tony Bennett will more than likely be added as a headliner today and Sonny Rollins has also been invited to this year's fest.
  2. I'm astonished that Sheryl Crow was on the bill
  3. Nice to see the game in 16:9, but it looks upconverted. Maybe the CBC has the good cameras for tonight's Habs-Leafs game?
  4. I heard their new "alt-country" single today. I liked it.

    Arcade Fire?

Massey Hall. It was darn near a religious experience (and I don't even love the band).

    Arcade Fire?

They formed in Montreal. Win Butler, their leader, is American. High energy live band with multiple instruments. They released two big studio albums. They rank in my Top 5 best live concerts (for shows I've been at). And don't ask for advice from zero.
  7. Jose Gonzalez: In Our Nature This is wonderful folk.
  8. I loved how the explosions worked with the subtle lyrics.
  9. Russell Peters said that he tried to do a comedy skit with Nickelback for last night's show, but he had to walk away because they were impossible to deal with. He said they were arrogant and didn't want to be made fun of, so he switched to Michael Bublé (a funny skit BTW) and Anne Murray.
  10. That opening performance and song that Nickeback did last night was offensive on every level. And another sign of the Apocalypse: I thought Dallas Green's collaboration with Gord Downie was fairly excellent and so was Green's Crazy Horse-inspired guitar solo. But seeing his famous now-wife gushing in the crowd evened things out.

    Earth Hour

The Earth is doomed, but I'd rather go down swinging than sit around and do nothing.

8:30-9:30 on a Friday night? Most businesses are closed and/or closing at that point. I cast shame (and I'm only a moderate tree-hugger; my wife was livid). Once again though, St. Jamestown was lit up like a massive forest of ugly Christmas trees.

Health and safety? What's the damage in turning off a few lights and neon signs? Plus, if downtown Bay Street business mega-towers can turn off the lights, why can't smaller businesses like Mercedes? But turning off the fucking glowing Mercedes and Loblaws neon signs took too much effort, so it seems. I am far more disappointed in St. Jamestown. I've stopped expecting more from my neighbourhood Loblaws.

It was easy to see the ignorant and/or uncaring energy culprits last night from my apartment balcony in Toronto: the Mercedes car dealership (big shock) at Dundas Street & the DVP; St. Jamestown (massive apartment complex in Cabbagetown); Bloor & Yonge; Davisville & Yonge; the Broadview St. Loblaws and Pizza Pizza. However, I was impressed with the core of downtown Toronto. Most of the skyscrapers were dim or black as was the CN Tower. I heard on the radio this morning that the city doubled their energy reduction from last year. It's a start.

    BEER!!

And Mill Street finally wised-up by putting their Organic Lager in 341-ml bottles instead of those stupid 222-ml ones.
  16. Anyone see the Dickey Betts & Great Southern concert yesterday on HD-Net? It was shot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about 3 years ago. It wasn't very good. The band was loose - unrehearsed - and Dickey had timing issues, especially when he played slow. Duane Betts looks exactly and distractingly like a young Dickey and his guitar sounds like a mix of Duane and Dickey. Dan Toler filled out the three-guitar attack, but his shredding bored the hell out of me; I never cared for his contributions in the Arista Allmans years. Dickey's band is set-up to sound and resemble the Allmans, but they are miles behind in delivery. I felt awkward watching the show.
  17. And Flynn injured doesn't make it any better.
  18. Really? Thanks for the history lesson. I'm not always serious when I post. I know they broke up. I've never cared for Jian Ghomeshi and Moxy Fruvous has a lot to do with it.
  19. Q is a good show, even though I hate Moxy Fruvous with an unholy passion.
  20. It's a damn shame that The Inside Track got the axe. It's a fine show.
  21. Have a Deadwood/Calamity Jane day. I know I will.
  22. Hoax? I was born on March 26, 1968, at the Kingston General Hospital. Outted as a 41 year-old ain't too hoax-worthy.
  23. This really is terrible. I don't know if everyone realizes this. The CBC - TV and radio - is a lifeline of information and culture, connecting all Canadians, whether they live in urban, rural and far remote areas. For some, the CBC is all they can get. The CBC produces far more Canadian content than all the other networks and for the most part, what the CBC produces isn't junk (I don't like Little Mosque and This Hour Has 22 Minutes, but many folks do). Canada would be far worse off if left to CTV and Global.
  24. This will affect the fabric of Canadian culture. This is bad news, but not unexpected, unfortunately. Canwest-Global's broadcasting end, an outhouse of a station, is in the worst trouble of all the networks in the country. I hope the CBC can retool and hire folks back when the economic dust settles. Good luck Kev! P.S., CTV is hiring.
