  1. Superfly and AC got on stage at Bonnaroo two and said they sold to Live Nation but that the festival was in "good hands". The GD cover thing relates to the one common thread that makes up the "jamband" scene. People love phish, hate panic, love panic, hate string cheese, however it goes - they all love the dead. (okay, not every last one - but the hippy masses are via the Grateful Dead). I'm not suggesting I go to see Dead covers, even though I love them and don't often complain about hearing them, I'm suggesting that the bands that I think should be at Bonnaroo are all bands that no one would be too shocked to hear play a Dead cover. And I believe that the premise of Bob's article was that Phish has new management - DMB's guys - that they are involved with Bonnaroo (I thought via Live Nation) and that Bonnaroo didn't sell enough tickets last year, which I thought was true.) As for Bonnaroo being all about the dollar - it got more expensive every year and less inviting. Not to say its not great. But the prices for food/drink went up year 1 to 2. During the first one you could bring coolers to the side stages and even the main stage without much trouble. There were less fences keeping things out and forcing you to buy from the licenced vendors. And how else do you explain some of the headline acts they've had there?
  2. And my reply: "I don't normally reply. But I think Phish is right to play Bonnaroo. You're missing an important part to the equation - that being Phish got too big. They got to big and employed too many people creating too much pressure on the band and Trey. The music suffered as a result and Trey ended up in rehab. (on the lot we sometimes call this "Jerry syndrome") They like doing festivals but now they don't have to BE the festival. Trey will be onstage constantly, second only to Warren Haynes, the hardest working man in Rock N Roll. The important question isn't whether Phish should or shouldn't play Bonnaroo. Its whether Bonnaroo is smart enough to get back to its roots and forget the Springsteens and the Metallicas. If they put "the Dead" in that Sunday closing slot and get back to the roots of the festival, where 95% of the bands played Grateful Dead covers at one time (Phish included), then they will sell tickets and the good folks will be there. I may be wrong but I think the TM / LiveNation world bought out Bonnaroo from Superfly etc. Coincidentally, that is also went it went downhill and became more about the almighty dollar." I suppose I should have addressed his idea of a great band never opening for anyone - probably by commenting on the communal aspect of the jamband scene. Thats what I was getting at with the "they all played Dead covers at one time or another bit"
  3. are all apps through the ipod store or can you get them elsewhere?
  4. One I got was $225 and it ended up costing me an extra $3/month for 500 mbs of data (a $30 package with that includes texts, voicemail and CID so I saved $17 off my old plan and convinced her to give me a 3 year $10 credit.) not bad when you figure its an Ipod too.

  6. Awesome. Urbanspoon is the key I think!
  7. Just be thankful we've got a room dammit! data-roaming can't be that expensive. Anyone know if both ends of a conversation have to use skype for it to work? Or could we use a skype app on iPhone to call someone in the U.S. without paying LD here? I guess the other apps I'd be interested in would be something that sync's up yahoo and/or hotmail email addresses?
  8. okay - got the iphone. Anyone want to suggest free apps? Its a lot of friggin work getting these things going!
  9. I am one of the "phish was better post-hiatus guys" and I have to say - them at bonnaroo is a great idea. If they suck there is other music! I did the first two Bonnaroos - they were great. But I think its gone down hill/$$$ since, no? The first one you could bring your cooler everywhere so it was a cheap festival. The second one the VIPs were only $250 or so and you got $1 Magic Hats and $1 waters all day long. Now I could see it being a festival where it costs more that Vegoose without the pimpin.
  10. Good read the morning after the first work-oriented x-mas party of the season. Probably all I'll accomplish all day.
  11. Nothing against any of the acts, nothing I care to see, or travel for, but it reminds me of the last Vegoose lineup. You know, the Vegoose to end all Vegoose's - because no one bought any tickets!
  12. What are BoomBox all about? Might be that way for NYE.
  13. Isn't it the coaches job to make players play at their best? Isn't he supposed to be a motivator, and isn't that what everyone said Smitch was good at, as opposed to being an X's and O's guy? Why was Moon useful last year and not this year? Same for Parker. Coach has to light a fire and there was no fire in Denver, thats for sure. That being said - I should admit I know not a hell of a lot about b-ball and especially the plays.
  14. I'd love to - but there sure isn't much time for an after work bite/pre-party and 3 bands! How late did Neil go anyways?
  15. Sorry - info may be in another thread, but I don't want to see setlists. Going tomorrow night - tickets don't even say who is opening, more or less when it all starts. I know its Wilco, but I thought there was another as well. Anybody have the approximate set times?

http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=thehomerfinal2mw6.jpg I don't know how to post photos. But the above link/photo is the answer the car industry's problems. Mark it.
  18. There are a few spots at Broadview/Queen - but no "sports" bars. May still ahve the game on a TV, but not likely any volume. "Jimmy's Place" is a dive bar by the Opera house, $20 for a pitcher and 2lbs of wings. Short cab to Docks from there.

My understanding is that a Toyota Plant worker in Cambridge (is it?) is making the same as GM line workers were making in Oshawa. Thats how they've kept the unions out. If they weren't on par then the union would have got in. I'll admit that this may provide them with more flexibility now. I always thought one of the real differences was the very business model used between "foreign" and "domestic". ie. Toyota and Honda are building the cars once they're purchased. GM/Ford build them to sit on the lot. As such they are forced to clear everything out at the end of the year when no one wants the gas guzzlers or inferior products. Then they throw out a nice 0% lease rate for a car that will depreciate at lightspeed and won't be worth anything when the lease gets turned back in. Not to mention the fact that they cannot react to the change in consumer demand as quickly as the build it once its sold model. No?
