  1. Well, Andrew isn't a member of this board and I'm just spreading the word he's playing another show which people might not know about as it's billed under "Tiger Magik". And about our friend the Supreme Bass Laser, Andrew just didn't want to have to worry about a situation popping up where one of his band members had obligations with another project...as such, he had to make some REALLY tough calls. He's looking to do more touring than ever in support of this new album and he was just fearful and cautionary of a few things...obviously weather or not his band would be able to make gigs/practices is HUGE so he made some decisions... This is a great new band he's put together and I'm excited to play his music...hopefully soon in a city near YOU! Gawpo Giggles
  2. Andrew is REALLY excited about the new album and would really like to promote it/tour more and he needed a band that could give him that commitment when the time comes. He's ALWAYS had a stellar band with him and his last group of guys was certainly fantastic and wanted to return but Andrew needed to make a tough decision to ensure that there would be no bumps along the way in terms of sharing band mates with other bands. The new band is great, the tunes are, as always Fantastic and we're really excited to start playing them for everyone! I hope your around for this one too Jeff! And any others out there too...A-rod is the shit and the new album is sweet rock & roll... Gawpo Giggles
  3. As we have more of the new material worked out and the album actually complete we'll be headed towards Montreal and a stop in Ottawa is likely. We were going to head to Montreal for another show with Black Oyster Bay but Andrew opted out of it... I'm really loving the new album...it's got little treats like banjo and mandolin that have yet to make their way into a Rodriguez recording...there was even a thought of the album being all acoustic but that's being saved perhaps for a future date... Gawpo Giggles -I'm in the band Mike so I'm certain I'll be there...
  4. The new album is turning out great and hopefully it will be set to release this month... Here's some more info on Andrew for those not in the Rodriguez loop: Andrew Rodriguez is a Canadian singer-songwriter, born in Sweden, raised in Montreal and now based in Toronto. Formerly the lead singer and songwriter for Bodega, he is now a solo artist. After recording the Bodega album Without A Plan in upstate New York with renowned producer Dave Fridmann, Andrew toured under the Bodega moniker, but he also started doing some solo outings under his given name, opening for Rufus Wainwright, Neil Halstead, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean and Hayden. While recording his solo album, Andrew took time out to help out on various recordings, most notably contributing guitar, keyboard and backing vocals to fellow Montrealer Sam Roberts' song "Brother Down". Also during this time, Andrew took to the road and toured extensively as guitarist/keyboardist with Melissa Auf der Maur. Gawpo Giggles
  5. Howdy Y'all, Just wanted to give the heads-up that Andrew Rodriguez (Tiger Magik) will be playing the Rivoli on Thursday, February 12th with Black Diamond Bay. Andrew is gearing up to release a new album and head out on tour with a new band. This is a great chance to catch him in a smaller venue... Hope to see some of you there! 6. Tuvan throt singing is amazing! Mr. Pen has been long favorite of mine...here's the link to a nifty "Amazing Grace" I came across a while ago...without the instruments its a little easier to hear the droning note... http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=kFWYSW4vfcA&feature=related Gawpo Giggles
  7. I went with TallPaull a couple years ago to Chicago to see Mr. Bill Frisell and one of the 3 shows the entire "Unspeakable Orchestra" was doing. It was a nice little birthday trip. The Bad Plus was opening and I had already heard "give" and certainly dug it... The venue was amazing (I believe it was the Chicago Opera Theatre) and the sound was exceptional... I won't say much more then I was underwelmed greatly by the Bad Plus... But Bill and the Orchestra saved the day and played a phenominal 2hr+ set of music... I haven't listened to the BP much since, but maybe time to give it another go... Gawpo Giggles
  8. I own an 808 groovebox...it's THE SHIT! Gawpo Giggles
  9. I think I read that you made your guitar Jay...nice! I too am a guitar maker...we'll; I'm a luthier by trade (make guitars and repair violin family instruments). I also had no idea what the point behind this post was and why it was directed to guitar makers...perhaps it should be directed towards musicians and noted as "shitty instruments not to purchase ever in ones lifetime?" 10. One of my favorite tunes! Jerry's just killing it and Chet got some tasty Mr. Guitar licks Antoine Dufour does a nifty little one with the help of a friend too but w/ a twist. Antoine is one of the cleanest players out there...it's had over 5,000,000 views  Gawpo Giggles
  11. I spoke with Roger last night and nothing is planned for any time in the near future. He just got done playing a show a couple weeks ago in Montreal with Antoine Dufour. An EXCITING thing in the works is a little tour with MONSTER CHOPPER Richard Smith in March when he's around. Richard is one of the newest Stonebridge endorsed players... Here's Richard rippin' "Travis" on his Stonebridge: And another one of Roger just KILLING it! It's another original of his and I REALLY like his intricate instrumental song writing. At about the 1:50min mark it gets REALLY AMAZINGLY nutty: Gawpo Giggles
  12. Absolutely my pleasure! Gawpo Giggles
  13. Yha, Roger's one of the best...and one of the nicest guys you'll EVER meet.. Funny thing (or actually kinda disgusting thing) is that he rarely gets a chance to play or practice for that matter. Stonebridge Guitars are still relatively new and he's the man behind the company so he's always off somewhere... He usually shows up at the Canadian Fingerstyle Championships and places top 5 without being prepared or anything...crazy... Gawpo Giggles
  14. Hedges was indeed a great player...I just never liked anything (most of anything I guess) he did musically...but one can't deny his inventiveness on the instrument...he's like Keller for me though; something I'm just more or less bored with... There's also a cat named Roger Schmidt that runs the Stonebridge Guitar Company that endorses Antoine and Andy and he's a SICK player... Check these two out of Roger killing it: and ENJOY, Gawpo Giggles
  15. I would refer to the work Lenny did with Lonesome Pine as more fingerstyle a la Chet with cross-picking a la Mother Maybelle...he didn't do much straight flatpicking, which what most of us bluegrassers consider bluegrass guitar... Gawpo Giggles
  16. LENNY F"ING BREAU, the greatest guitarist of all time!!! Gawpo Giggles *****that was in response to a question now deleted....
  17. In what genre? And are we talking strictly dedicated flat-toppers? This could easily sway into guitar players who from time to time play acoustic... Seems like JayR likes the hammer tappers (and a couple Stonebridge endorsed players) Bluegrass - Tony, Doc, Russ, Clarence, Canada's Marc Roy Jazz - Tony, Lenny, John McL, Chet Fingerstyle - Lenny, Don, Pierre, Chet anything on an acoustic or any other guitar for that matter - Lenny and Chet Gawpo Giggles
  18. Go and enjoy yourself...nothing but that to do now, so just have a great time... If it's any condolence to you, I was in San Fran for the first phish/GD collaboration (4/15-17/99) and watched some guy drop $3000 USD PER TICKET for the 3rd night...grabbed 2 of them and handed over $6000 USD to some guy asking that much. HAVE A BLAST and don't worry about the money if you really don't have to (not gonna lose the house or anything because of the trip...) Gawpo Giggles
  19. The blond strip on the sides is an effect the high sap content had on the wood. It's become rather prized with our modern need to work with some flatsawn woods. I'm going to say the back & sides are Cocobolo and the top looks pretty wide grained (can't see super well in the pic though) and going with the fact that it needs to support some heavy strings; I'm gonna say the top is likely Adi Red Spruce... Nice Gitter Dave! I look forward to hearing you go it er' some time May The Blessings Be, Gawpo Giggles
  20. Reminded me of this: Still one of my favorites!!! Gawpo Giggles
  21. I'll be around with something at some time else Jay boy... And phunky, were you there this past Monday? One of the Ramblers (Darin) was up playing a few tunes with the Monday crew... Gawpo Giggles
  22. Well, I guess tonights your only chance Bacon... And rumor has it a few guest might be stopping by and joining the stage with The Ramblers...maybe Bluegrass Guitarist of the Year Marc Roy and perhaps Tony Allen and Kristine Schmidt...might see banjo wiz Chris Quinn there as well...maybe...who knows; rumors are flying... Love to see you there if possible... Gawpo Giggles
  23. only a couple days left...gotta bump while the bumpin's good... Gawpo Giggles
  24. Howdy Folks, You know, two and a-half years ago, when I first met the Ramblers, and they were upside down and ass-backwards, I had no idea that I was looking at the best God-damn Crabgrass band on the planet. Who would have thought that four guys with four guitars would end up turning the world of country music inside out and on it's ass and back again? Not me, that's for damn sure, but they soon had me convinced that they were a force to be reckoned with. They had a sound that got inside my head like a bad radio jingle, and just wouldn't go away, and folks from here to there took notice by the handful...those fat, rolling bass lines, intertwined with the twang and the chop and the strum and the plunk, virtually defined a genre. Their classic debut EP "Live off the Kitchen Floor" (reissued in 2008 with bonus tracks) indeed turned some heads, as did their penchant for getting into all kinds of trouble, both good and bad, but don't get me started...I've been to nearly every show, and there are way too many stories to tell, (like the time Brad single-handedly pool-sharked an entire town, or the day they first met Billy Moustache, or the time they came face to face with a real live Sansquantch) and I've lost count of the number of fights that have broken out when these guys are around... And so here we are, several breakups, two engagements, one marriage, one shackin' up and countless crazy adventures later, and whatever the future may hold, it seems to hold true that all things must pass, which includes the Wayside Ramblers (at least in this incarnation), and so I would like to invite you all to come out for their last show before they go on hiatus indefinitely, at The Local Pub (396 Roncesvalles) on Friday September 19. Some of you were there from the very beginning and have been there every step of the way, and some of you may have only been out once or twice, but I know "the guys" would love to see you all there to mark this occasion and make it a good one. Just because you're settlin' down doesn't mean you can't have one last ramble... Adios, Tony Stone September 2008
  25. Try investing in some tape-wound strings. I'm presently using the Labella BeatleBass Nylon Tape Wound strings with my vintage Hagstrom HB-II and I've got some of the deepest bass tone I've heard...and they last for an eternity! I had to play a gig the other day and ended up going through the headlining acts rig...the bassist for Bedouin Soundclash...with my bass set-up, and his Ampeg set for an ultra low Dub/Reggae sound; the bass line was so deep you could feel the vibrations in Jamaica....he was asking me about my bass later through the evening and how I got "that tone"...
