  1. Sure this is right...this creep has sexual relations with persons as an HIV positive individual and did NOT disclose to his partners that he was HIV positive...contracting HIV/AIDS would be a major change in persons lives and one that could COST them their lives...he is a terror to unsuspecting victims... 2. I guess to each their own...personally, I don't find sharing a show with 20,000+, or fighting for air crammed into the front row, or 1000ft from the stage on the back lawn, "intimate" in any way... I think "feeling" a show is intimate (hanging with bro's on the back lawn having a good time...or junked out staring at Trey noodle) isn't anywhere near a show that IS intimate; like a band that normally plays to 20,000 playing to a few hundred...in fact, this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone referring to a 10,000+ person show as "intimate"...consider "intimate & interactive"; if they tried to pull that off while selling tickets to 10,000 people, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed... 3. This was the first local-ish Radiohead show I've missed in a while (I've seen 14 now to date) and I'll take a stab at that question as to why 96' and earlier Radiohead is miss-able, and in my opinion a better show to get a chance to see. It's not because of the music, because they are still writing amazing songs, and its not the show itself because those still kick-ass...its the obvious that comes with every band that gets Uberhuge - The intimacy of the shows and to be honest, it goes hand in hand, but the intensity was just simply more. I saw Radiohead play Barrymore's and although it wasn't my favorite music period for them, there is no chance anyone is going to see a Radiohead show as intense as that these days...a couple feet away from the band, the intensity (more rock aspect) of the actual music...it can't be equaled these days...they've done countless more world tours since then, and changed their sound entirely... BUT; it was the Congress Centre show for the OK Computer tour that takes the cake! Top 3 concerts I've ever seen...they played for almost 3hrs, one set, complete general admission...you simply can't get that any more... I started caring less and less if I missed a show around the time of Kid A...but thats how it goes I guess...soaring ticket prices for worse seats and the addition of the idiot fan who digs them cause their cool these days; not much to my appeal... They still kick ass, but their is no chance of a show these days, in my opinion, coming close to the awesomeness that was early Radiohead...unless your one of these people that get those "intimate & interactive" rare tickets, your not going to see a show like early Radiohead; not a chance Gawpo Giggles
  4. No, Giggles hasn't but look at fashion; its all a rewind to 10 years ago...pretty soon all you guys will be looking for those sweet vintage ava's and then who's gonna look silly... And yup, Musikmesse is big in Germany, but if you want BIG; China has the Grandaddy of em all...... Gawpo Giggles
  5. MIAC is shit compared to NAMM...not even a comparison but; it is still a room (or 2 or 3) filled with gear so its fun...but NAMM is 1,000,000 times bigger and better and more fun... Gawpo Giggles
  6. Just a note on this as I don't want to seem too crazy and last night I was still jumping inside from the whole thing... So firstly, I have been "knifed" in Toronto once before; got a 7inch scare on the inside of my leg to show for it... BUT... I've really been unable to get this poor Tim fella out of my head...so much of me is thinking about this poor guys family...how is it even possible they could deal with something like this? How is possible that a new immigrant to this Country isn't screened for psych problems? Is it possible that the Winnipeg water messed this guy up so bad he needed brutally murder, gut, decapitate someone as well as eat some of them? I doubt it! The killer was 5'8", how was this poor Tim kid not helped...anything, blocking the knife with suitcases, dousing the guy with the fire extinguisher, or using the fire extinguisher, or I think the greyhound even has a damn axe on board...anything? Nothing? But, it is a horrible situation to think about and I certainly wouldn't blame or point fingers (besides at Li) at the outcome of something like this... I'm even reading more about this horrible story on the damn "GO T.V" as I'm on the bus and this little prick; with a brutal grin on his face says this to me??!!?? I've been trained in Combat Sambo and Systema for several years now and my brother was a national Ninjitsu champion growing up. I'm also 6'3" and close to 240lbs. As you can note from my earlier posting of the injuries to the kid, you will notice nothing was near vital organs or such...limbs, joints and the face... I felt bad, because in all honesty I certainly overdid it...but sooooo much was running in my head about this poor Tim and this little punk just had too much "cocky, prick, smirk", almost joking behavior to his comment and he certainly suffered the worst for his attitude... 7. So, I'm coming back on th GO train from Ajax to Toronto today and some little shit about 20yrs old who was all tweaked-out, running around the train car, lights a smoke in the doorway right beside me as we're at a quick stop...Danforth I believe...I asked the kid, actually pretty nicely if he'd mind actually smoking outside...this little fuck pulls out a knife and questions "want your head cut-off?" There was one other young girl on that train level with me... I was behind my bike (I use it to get around to where I'm going all the time) and that was the first thing the kid got hit with...the rest is a blur of anger but I can pretty safely say he's got a broken arm, elbow, knee-cap, leg, and most of his face... The girl ran to find some train authority and by the time we get to the Union Station (the next coming stop, and mine), the cops are waiting for the kid and asking me some questions...the cops were really nice, told me I might have went a little too far but completely understood and told me I could be on my way... INDEED WTF is wrong with people? Gawpo Giggles
  8. Andrew joined his old band mates for the entire show, which was quite sweet... And Mr. Breit was nowhere in sight... Gawpo Giggles
  9. Great weekend! Foggy Hogtown - rippin bluegrass set BSS - For me the stand out performance of the weekend...lots of old tunes, tasty new ones and great, magical energy on stage... Gawpo Giggles -my only negative thing was the short set times...I could go with getting rid of some bands and giving longer set-times to the good acts there...
  10. Anyone know if the Toronto show from the 6ht @ Mod Club show was recorded? Save for the bass feedback issues, it was pretty damn good show! Gawpo Giggles
  11. It was a nice day Sunday and we had a nice time...I'm not sure that every band played, and I didn't get all the names but I had a really great time sitting on the front porch of the saloon and listening to them...it is indeed too bad that it was under-attended cause Mark is trying something really great with these events... May The Blessing Be, Gawpo Giggles
  12. wayside ramblers are now added to the bill too...
  13. Hey Folks, I don't often promote my band, but we decided to print a few more copies of our E.P (Live Off The Kitchen Floor) and as a bonus we added some live tracks we recorded (I guess to be accurate the E.P is also live but...) and I thought some folks here might be interested in the content. 1) Blue Moon of Kentucky (B. Monroe) 2) The L&N (S. Earle) 3) Friend of the Devil (J. Garcia) 4) I'm on Fire (B. Springsteen) 5) Ramblin' Man (W. Jennings) www.myspace.com/waysideramblers Darin - mandolin (1,4) banjo (2,3,5) l.voc (2) Brad - bass (1,3,5) dobro (2) guitar (4) l.voc (4) Jason - r. guitar (1,5) bass (2,4) mandolin (3) Doc - l. guitar (1,2,3,5) banjo (4) l.voc (1,3,5)
  14. My buddy runs a specialty bike shop here in Toronto and he's the same guy that brought the "Old Dutch" bikes to Canada...a collector and seller of eclectic and special bike. He just returned from Paris where those bikes that your looking for are from. He said their part of the "Velib(?)" program for France and the bikes are made by a French company. You CANNOT buy just the fenders and as he remarked that the bikes themselves are on the rather expensive side... Gawpo Giggles

    Merlefest

I've been to 3 Merlefest's and the line-up is always stellar. You'll be surrounded by beautiful music and beautiful people and I assure you you'll have a great time. It's a really well organized festival with amazing volunteer folk and plenty of room... My only suggestion would be if you like guitar, check out the Doc Guitar Comp...many a fine pickin' there...AND THE PARKING LOT PICKIN IS AMAZING!!!! Gawpo Giggles
  16. Schwa, The albums are good, but really seeing The Abrams live is what it's all about...their "official" touring band is stellar...recently their cousin Elijah (also 17) joined the band and they've hired a 22 yr old kid from W. Virginia to pick banjo thats crazy nuts too...Branden Greene I believe his name is...from all the Merlefest and other great bluegrass events I've ever seen, the song they usually play for an encore (for some reason slipping my mind...an old instrumental) is top 5 bluegrass performances I've ever witnessed... Gawpo Giggles
  17. At 14 and 17 yrs young the Abrams brothers are some of the finest bluegrass players on the planet...mark my words these two boys will become legends! John's a little Tony Rice clone and also kicks the shit out of a mandolin and James in my opinion may go down in history as the greatest bluegrass fiddler of all time...at 14 it's mind-boggling the taste and technique this kids got...you just can't teach that kind of mastery... Gawpo Giggles,
  18. rubby, the number's just gonna be out of service for a little while...i'll call you tomorrow from work... cheers, giggles
  19. sorry schwa...didn't get this till now... i can't think of anyone off the top of my head in KW but the violin shop, as long as their selling the mando's, should be fine at repairing...more than likely it's in need of some fret work if only 2 frets on a single string(s) are giving you problems... just ask the guys there...any self respecting luthier should be honest in their ability to fix a problem and if they can't, maybe they know where to send it... i can ask around work tomorrow (my assistant is from kw area and used to work for waterloo music) and i'm sure i can get a better answer for you then... Cheers, Gawpo Giggles
  20. Thanks Y'all! Sean, thanks for the nice words but to be honest, that was one of our weakest shows in a LOOONNNNNGGGGGG time...the next day at the Sand Road Bluegrass fest was pretty slick for us...we've also been selected by the cat doing the largest internet bluegrass show in the world to have our music on there...which we're really excited about too! You can get the link for it through CMT... As for tickets to the C.C.B.A's, try this: http://www.northernbluegrass.com/bluegrass_awards.php And yha, BradM is bang on for up coming Ramblers gigs...thanks Brad!!! Pickin' & Grinin' Doc Gawpo
  21. So my band, The Wayside Ramblers ( www.myspace.com/waysideramblers ) have been honored by being selected as one of the performers for the 29th annual Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards. Their being held in Huntville on November 23rd & 24th. We'll be one of the headlining acts hitting the stage at 10:30pm on the Friday night...not sure if many here care, but I know there are a few fans of the sweet Bluegrass sounds and this is THE bluegrass event for Canada every year...everybody's there for the pickin' Doc Gawpo
  22. Pablo's gonna be the guy that will know whats being made where...so no full dreads or anything yet I guess in Mexico...I really don't know just after reading this little thing...Jaimoe's comment about some being made in Asia, I remembered the rep saying it would be happening in the future and since he was coming by the store and it's kinda my job to know this shit, I'd figure I'd ask... Even if there is some out of U.S building, it's not the end of the world and probably a pretty good thing...it'll make for a good guitar at a good price...I imagine if they ever go overseas it'll be something along the lines of the Eastman instruments where it's a small, truly devoted group of makers where the quality control is top-shelf...people can make instruments well all over the world and as long as they have good raw materials to begin with, then something is gonna work out...thats the exact reason that I often, for the money, prefer Alvarez/Yairi to these Canadian companies...on many models their spruce is actual Engleman (Sitka the choice for the Master series)and their cedar Western Red (I have also discussed the raw materials of these Godin instruments with their provincial sales rep as I always found it odd they would only list their instruments as having "spruce" or "cedar" tops...I'm also a guitar/violin maker and as luthier-dork as it is, this stuff interests me...if it didn't, I suppose I'd be in the wrong business now). The Yairi wood stock is really renowned for being one of the best naturally aired wood supplies for guitar making in the world... Anyways...I think the best thing period is to play guitars, find one you like and if you got the cash for it, buy it...for inexpensive, I point my finger the Alvarez way and certainly one should check out the Hofner H series for a $500.00ish guitar w/ a fishman pick-up...REALLY great for the buck and the new "Contemporary" series of jazz boxes, thinlines and Beetle Basses are going to blow everything in it's price range out of the water! Outty 5000, Gawpo Giggles
  23. I was a little suspect upon reading the information regarding "ALL" Martin's that headstock reads "Martin & Co." being built in the US, so the other day I asked the guy (name will not be given...obviously) who is the sales rep for Ontario & Quebec for the official Canadian distributor of Martin guitars about this as he was due to stop in my shop for various meetings and in fact, over a year ago he had told me that soon Martin would be having the "X" series instruments made in Asia...and although they aren't made there yet, a good number of the "X" series guitars are made in Mexico, which when I last checked is not the USA. In fact, below is the address of the Mexico Martin factory... C.F. Martin & Company Calle 1 y Eje B Navojoa SON, 85870 Parque Industrial Navojoa Phone: (01152) 642-423-5052 Fax: (01152) 642-423-5053 Cheers, Gawpo Giggles
