    sarah palin

If Palin runs in 2012, there could very likely be one interesting side effect. http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/amos-makes-palin-promise_1126456 Aloha, Brad
  4. When I came across the article (linked from Fark, in their music category), it said he had died, but the article has since been revised to say he's (still) in a coma; I've updated my original post to include the revision from the article. Aloha, Brad

  6. From my notes, and the set list that Jaydawg grabbed for me, here's how I think it went down; corrections would be welcome. Set I ----- The Bench Chevron No. 7 Full Tilt Strange Companion Permit Collector Martian In The Belly jam > Morning Cold > Eminence Front (The Who) > Morning Cold Holes Encore ------ Distraction Speedbump BNB can still bring it; there are some cryptic notations in my set list, that I've I've decoded to mean "Tell me this isn't Phish" (in "Chevron"), "Tell me this isn't Fat Cats" (in "No. 7"), and "Tell me this isn't Pink Floyd" (in the jam that went into "Morning Cold"). As for the Fat Cats' set list, I stink at knowing their titles, but I did scrawl some lyrical snippets; again, any corrections would be appreciated. Set I ----- Try To Find The Pieces Yesterday Falls Down Cast A Stone / The Great Divide Hey Man > All I See > Hey Man The Days Between Things Aren't Going Quite My Way Sweet Lorraine > Maracas Put Your Hands Down Easy > Groove Is In The Heart (Dee-Lite) > Put Your Hands Down Easy Aloha, Brad
  7. From my notes: Set I ----- Faith Cola Big Al Hang On Rustabout Southern Man (Neil Young) Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles) Mission Bell Blues Tumbleweed Tea Set II ------ Helpless (Neil Young) unknown #1 Message From Santa Don't You Bring Me Down* You're Always Gone* Ohio (Neil Young) Silent Night > Lowell unknown #2 Encore ------ unknown #3 A Cousin Of Martin Scorsese Lawyers Guns And Money (Warren Zevon) > I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry > Lawyers Guns And Money (Warren Zevon) * These titles may not be correct. Wow. What I night. I got to the Orbit Room about 8:30pm, to find 25 or 40 people already in line. The doors opened about 9:00pm, with 10 people admitted at a time. Luckily, can-o-phish had a table reserved, so I stuck my mic stand up against the stage, ran the cables over to c-o-p's table, set my pre-amp and recorder up on a chair because the tabletop was full, and ended up seeing almost all of the show from the comfort of the floor about 4' directly in front of Kevin's amp. If you like Kevin Breit's guitar tone, it was the best seat in the house. Aloha, Brad
  8. According to http://www.jambands.ca/sanctuary/showtopic.php?tid/255190 tickets are available in Toronto at Soundscapes, Rotate This, Play De Record, and Shanti Baba, and in Hamilton at Where Heads Meet. They're also available on-line: http://www.ticketweb.ca/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=763505 Aloha, Brad
  9. That'd be Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Le Divan Orange. http://www.jambase.com/shows/event.aspx?EventID=1111887 I haven't found out yet who'll be in Marco's trio, but I'd bet his drummer will be Andrew Barr (which makes Brad Barr showing up and sitting in also a good bet). Aloha, Brad
  10. Did anyone else catch Alice on (IIRC) Showcase over the last couple of weeks? It's a "follow-on" to the original "Alice" books, taking place about 150 years after them, and has re-interpretations of the elements of the original books, along with a really noticeable visual style. (It's done by the same people who did Tin Man, a follow-on to "The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz.") Aloha, Brad
  11. The big snag for me today is that I live in Ottawa, so the bus trip both ways plus a night in a hotel would just be too much. I'm hoping jahdawg (who lives in Montreal) will be out to record this one. Aloha, Brad
  12. I was planning on going, but just didn't feel up to it today (due to a cold, the weather, and wanting to save energy for Toronto this weekend). Aloha, Brad
  13. Are the doors for the BNB show at 9:00pm or 9:30pm? The poster and the banner ad say 9:30pm, but what you wrote above says 9:00pm. Aloha, Brad
  14. I wonder if you could equip a guitar with a multi-channel wireless pickup system, one channel to send the guitar signal to the effects rig, another channel to send the output of the effects rig back to the guitar (kind of special "in-guitar" monitor mix) and into its last set of controls, then a final channel to send the after-controls signal back to the rest of the rig. Aloha, Brad

    BEER!!

I found individual bottles of Dieu Du Ciel's "Corne du diable" (The Devil's Horns) at the LCBO (Carling & Woodroffe) the other day, and really like it. It's their take on an American IPA, and it's wonderful, though on the rich side, with just enough hops and other flavours to make everything balance nicely. Aloha, Brad
  16. In http://www.archive.org/details/bnb2008-07-19.oktava.flac16 listen to track #15, at about the 1:00 minute mark. Aloha, Brad
  17. Phish, 1994-07-05, Congress Centre, Ottawa, ON http://phish.net/setlists/?d=1994-07-05 Aloha, Brad
  18. Is it possible to ask some of the people who'll be attending the party, or maybe its organizers? Aloha, Brad

    Fruit Bats

I think I've heard of them, but I don't remember their and my paths ever crossing. There are about 10 live recordings of them at http://www.archive.org/details/FruitBats and jambase has a page for them: http://www.jambase.com/Artists/15995/Fruit-Bats Aloha, Brad
  20. Bump. I did some digging into the opening acts, and at Christianne's MySpace, the first track, "Not The Prophet", is getting me excited to see her. The JMC Project looks cool, too, heavy funk with hip-hop and R&B elements. Aloha, Brad
