  1. That explains why I asked this question: I'm channeling PassedOutFamily... Aloha, Brad

  3. OK, I'll take it as a given that most of us do the traditional dinner (turkey, stuffing, fixings, Christmas cake) on Dec. 25, but do any of you/us have special dinners the night before, on Dec. 24? In my family, we don't. Tonight, I made burritos (onion, bell pepper, plum tomatoes, black beans, veggie ground round, served on whole wheat tortillas with grated cheese, with a salad on the side). Add in the nice Wolf Blass merlot (which my brother received as a gift; it's my favourite wine: free), and it was moderately memorable, but not particularly commemorative. In fact, I don't think I can even remember any Christmas Eve dinner, except for the one I'm currently digesting. Is my family alone in this, or do people have special stuff they do/eat on Christmas Eve? Aloha, Brad
  4. I dare you to bring your pedal steel. Noted. I was aiming for a 9:30pm arrival, so I'll make that 9:30pm latest. Aloha, Brad
  5. Frankly, I like it a lot. I'm staying with my family out in the east end (past the east end of the subway line), and given that the last train comes through Spadina station at about 1:50am, if a show at Queen & Spadina goes until last call, it means I'm either taking a cab (expensive) or the blue light 24-hour bus routes (long) back. The Run With The Kittens show on Tuesday ended at about 1:00am, and I loved it. (In Ottawa, it's a bit different, because the core bus routes run until 2:30am or 3:00am through downtown, so having a show end at last call or later isn't a big deal for me). Sweet! We can talk abut Run With The Kittens. (Actually, I don't think I've ever heard you talk about The Spades, zero; I'm interested in what you think of them, their show, and their music.) Aloha, Brad
  6. If anybody is in Toronto and will be looking for something to do on Wednesday, Dec. 27, James McKenty And The Spades will be playing (the back room of) The Cameron House. And, I'll be in Toronto until Thursday, so this'll be a fun way for me to end my holiday break. Anybody else interested? Aloha, Brad

    BEER!!

On a whim, I picked up a six-pack of Tankhouse Ale, from Toronto's Mill St. Brerery. It's really good, and I think it'd qualify as a good IPA (it's a bit maltier than what I think an IPA should be, being almost a copper or red ale). (Well, if you've had some of the American micro-brewery IPAs, the amount of hops in Tankhouse Ale might not stagger you, but if you think Alexander Keith's typifies the IPA style, you might be taken aback by this beer.) Their Coffee Porter (made with actual coffee beans) sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I'd want to commit to a six-pack. It also looks like their beers are only available in Toronto and surrounding areas. Aloha, Brad
  10. I wonder if global peace would be better served by each of us giving someone else an orgasm, rather than just one's own self. If it were someone on "the other side" (of whatever divide you might choose), so much the better. Aloha, Brad
  11. Perhaps you're transethnic? You know, the soul of a Mexican trapped in the body of a Martimer. How about Mexican/Maritime fusion cuisine? You take donair fixings (including the sweet sauce) and serve them in taco shells. Call the place "Taco B'y." Aloha, Brad
  12. Happy, Day, paisley! (Despite my wigged-out maximal inability to initially recognize you at THAT PLACE after The Slip, it was cool hooking up with you again. I hope to see/recnognize you the next time our paths cross.) Aloha, Brad
  13. Do you need to host it? The Codetalkers are on the Live Music Archive http://www.archive.org/details/TheCodetalkers so you could find a show with MP3s, and just link to the individual files; it wouldn't take up (much) space on your server, and would come out of archive.org's download bandwidth. One good show might be http://www.archive.org/details/ct2005-08-05.flacf from PJC in 2005. Aloha, Brad
  14. I heard about that, too, but somehow, I didn't see him. Aloha, Brad
  15. I recorded RWTK, and will be transferring, tracking, and burning it when I get to Ottawa next week. No, I didn't check out the back room; I actually assumed (incorrectly, I now know) The Spades would be playing the front room, where RWTK played. (Which is/was an "Ooops!" on my part, as I had hoped to use last night to check out how/where to set up for The Spades.) Aloha, Brad
  16. It was supremely fun. I became a Fan of these guys about five minutes into the first set. I heard things that sounded like Ween at times, as well as a fair bit of Tenacious D (especially in the second set), and other things that sounded totally their own. I was also impressed with the musicianship of the band: these guys can play their respective instrument(s) really well. I'm considering suggesting them to Mavericks for the opening slot when The Golden Dogs play Ottawa in February, as that would be a killer bill. Aloha, Brad
  17. Happy Day, gentlemonkey! Aloha, Brad
  18. I think I am, and I'm hoping to record it. Look for a bearded guy in a nero t-shirt. Aloha, Brad

  20. The Sunday, December 17, 2006 show by David Lauzon at SAW Gallery in Ottawa, ON is now avaialble for download: http://www.archive.org/details/dlauzon2006-12-17.oktava.shnf Enjoy! Aloha, Brad

  23. Cool. I just remembered that I'll be bringing the rig to tape The Spades on Dec. 27 (also at The Cameron House), so if I make it out on Tuesday, I'll bring it along. Aloha, Brad
  24. Do you know them to be cool with being recorded? It turns out that Sisters Euclid aren't playing tomorrow night , which means I should be awake enough to make The Cameron House on Tuesday, but since I won't be recording Sisters Euclid, I don't need to bring my rig for that, so if RWTK aren't OK with being recorded, I'd just as soon leave it at home. Aloha, Brad
