  1. A friend of mine is a window installer up there - professional, good guy, just did all the windows in my place down here - he used to work for Golden Windows and Doors and is a commercial glazier - he does home installs on the side etc. PM me if you want his number -
  2. never seen a roofing company do eavestroughs but the only thing I can suggest is if you are putting on a metal roof get 5" troughs. If you are getting a shingle roof make sure they are using 3' Grace rubber underlayment around the bottom of the roof and in the valleys....and 35 year shingles typically last 20 years or less. Are you trying to fix the eaves or replace/put new ones up? If you have trees have them install gutter guards - this one is the best:

  7. Great article, my dad is all over this stuff...but I gotta say - This is impossible: "Poor wiring in the basement pot lights meant that they were using 300 watts 24 hours a day" So the lights were on? There is no way to send 300 watts through wires without something plugged in and drawing current... If you want to test some of the things you have plugged in, these go on sale for $15 occasionally: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/3/HouseHome/2/Electrical/ElectricalTesters/PRD~0528851P/Blue%252BPlanet%252BElectronic%252BEnergy%252BMeter.jsp

  10. Hmmm is that the opera house in Prague in that cyclist photobomb? I was there around 2000 when it was under repair and looked like that...
  11. Phono will be the only one with a difference in level and tone - all the rest are line-level and will be identical. Easiest way to test it is swap the cables on the blueray/TV player inputs - does the volume decrease follow the cable swap? if so its the TV/cablebox output volume...if the blueray is now quieter, its the input on the receiver.
  12. any place is an upgrade to Arrow Hall in Mississauga but damnit, Centre in the Square? I mean I know i'm not allowed to bitch because they will be so close....but i'm tempted to go to Ottawa on my birthday instead, just because it isn't Center in the Square...

  16. time for an update! and lots to feast your eyes on. this guy is just killing my mind. Anthony F. Schepperd is the artist...mind-numbing...anyways here's the first: can't say it's my fave song, has a Wolf Parade feel to it but it's a great lead in to this... my god it's like Allegro Non Tropo meets Bruce Bickford meets Yellow Submarine!!! here's one that is blowing my mind as well - Terry Gilliam style visuals from Cyriak, one of the neatest video manglers i've seen -
  17. I've got 2 of these each with dual 1TB drives down in the basement... Dlink DNS323 One is music/video, one is backup for everything else - still back up anything 'work-ish' to DVD and keep a couple thumb drives with files on them but the DNS323's do the bulk of it... added bonus? USB port allows you to plug in a USB Printer and share it on the network...oh and it's got a Bit Torrent client built in so you can set up downloads and turn your computer off...the DNS323 will do it on its own...
  18. Hopefully I can twist my niece and nephew the same way! hehehe ...I still remember yelling out 'Sir Richard Pump A Loaf' in that grocery store when we bought the 4' Hoagie...3 days of laughter. And actually 3 days of hoagie. In the sun. On the car. That was a bad idea. OK wait - if this isn't something to do with Zappa i'm going too far, but I don't think I ever look at the initials 'FZ' and think of anything else. Hey did you see Dan Connolly's 71 yard return? Not bad for a 345lb right guard eh? :dazed:
  19. It's a good book....until you hit that last 1/3 of political diatribe...
