"Like electing John Kerry would have made a big difference in global opinion toward the US."

Bush is the figurehead for stupidity the world over. I think you are fooling yourself to think that a Kerry victory wouldn't make a difference.

[color:"purple"]And that trickle down economic theory - wow, it really is working great.

sometimes you gotta fabricate a story for the religious nut jobs just to get their vote

Are you actually endorsing politicians openly lying to the population to procure votes?

Do you not think that your theory on effective campaigning flies in the face of democracy, which is based on the idea that we vote for those who promise to do that with which we agree?

Do you not see that you describe a bastardized version of democracy in which a politician just says whatever will get people to vote for him/her, despite the fact that the politician in question has no intention whatsoever of following through with those representations to the people?

Astounding.

I heard an interesting prediction this morning:

A co-worker's husband expects an assassination attempt on Bush before the four years are up.

Me and The Sloth almost left 40 Main on Saturday night to do just that - assassinate Dubya... Luckily I was on too much of the LSD and Sloth was too drunk... I swear we were seriously thinking about it...

always makes for an interesting border crossing

"Your business in the United States?"

"Oh man, the lights reflecting off your badge are blowing me away! Wait a second... are those really lights?"

that said I guess I have crossed a few times tripped... make sure beforehand that any Europeans in the car have a current visa, trust me

another MAJOR terrorist attack on USA - If someone wants to bad enough nobody's gonna stop them. The fact that there hasn't already been another major attack on the US is testament to what Bush has done and will continue to do.

...There's a very plausable and popular theory saying the Bush administration knew a lot more about the conspiracy of the 911 attacks than they've ever admitted. Besides, they never even caught the guy who apparantly 'masterminded' the whole thing. Instead they decided to attack an old nemesis who had nothing to do with it. In reality, the Bush administration drastically reduced the rights and privacy of it's own citizens using the threat of terrorism as an excuse for everything and have otherwise accomplished nothing. Except for attacking Iraq, which posed no immediate threat to America.

a military draft for the US - Never gonna happen!

Their agenda requires winning the war, or at least reaching a reasonable level of 'security' in Iraq, which will take many more years. They might even want to start another war elsewhere in the meantime. This administration is hardcore, they will do whatever it takes, no matter what.

continued disfavour of the US around the world - Like electing John Kerry would have made a big difference in global opinion toward the US.

Yes, he would have big time. Virtually the entire world was supporting Kerry in this election. Kerry's main thing was that he was going to be a world diplomat, very unlike Bush has been.

huge tax cuts for the rich - A simple trickle down economics lesson here ... the rich are the people with the cash, let them keep more of it then they can reinvest in businesses that will inevitably offer up job to the middle class, more jobs = more taxes collected by the gov't which means further tax cuts down the line for the middle class.

Unfortuantely the US will always be staunch anti-socialists, so the rich will always get richer and the poor poorer. It's always been the case in the US, so there's really nothing new there.

Good luck to America.

Hey Constable you friggin lurker,

i work with several Polish and German fellas, all of whom tell me that they, they're families and friends all hate Bush. Infact, the guy who runs my area said that he was talking about the election with his mother in Poland this morning at about 5am and everytime Bush's name got mentioned, she would take a second and spit on the floor. he was laughing but tell me it could get any worse than that. Kerry would have to make an improvment in world opinion of the US, its impossible not to.

oh ya, did anyone hear about the oil pipeline that was sabotaged in Northern Iraq lately? i do believe it was a Haliburton pipeline. hmmmm.

Its nothing new, but if you want a terrifying read concerning the US international policies this was written in 2000. The Project for a New American Century (or PNAC) list of signatories is pretty interesting, too...

Btw, this is a pretty big file - worth the read if you haven't seen it before.

"gas prices at 3.00/L - Not now. With Bush in office and a Republican controlled Congress the US is free and clear start movin' heavy machinery up to Alaska and drill up all the oil that's been sittin' up in the reserve for the last few thousand years."

Unfortunately constable, you can't just can't tap the Alaskan ->wildlife<- reserve and have the oil at the pumps and filling Republican SUV's in a matter of days/weeks/months.

Even the most ambitious predictions are that actually getting this oil to consumers would take many many many years (10-16 I believe) so to say that drilling in Alaska will offer immediate relief to consumers is wrong. And how much oil is actually there? I think enough for a few months of use - tops, it's a short-term fix, if even that at all. But at least all those pesky animals and habitats will be gone!

...oh, and I own an SUV and step on bugs.

The ANWR reserve could provide 20% of the U.S. demands for oil, and much much more than several months worth. The govt thinks they would only need 2000 of the 19 000 000 hectares to tap the supply there. Of course how will the oil reach the U.S.? Canada. Shudder.

Well, at home, I would like to see the softwood lumber and beef trade disputes end, but with GW, I dont know if that will happen very soon. I doubt Paul Martin and his shakey liberal minority are too pleased with any of this, considering the further move towards Big Brother we are about to witness. Just the effect this is going to have on environment and social policies alone are enough to make me shudder.

My predictions for 2004 as derived from my pact with Satan are:

People will sit around complaining about the current world powers that be, focussing on conspiracy theories, the rich will get richer, the poor will get poor, the environment will continue to get overlooked, wars will keep killing, etc. Maybe with the odd major event.

The same as the last four years, and the four years before that, and the four years before that, and so on, and so on.

What I think we need is a big Winter Music Festival for all of us to go to. A Deerhurst kind of thing but only way cheaper. Around the end of Jan/Feb would be nice ::

Hey Curt, funny you should mention this. I was talking with Izzie at the last CTMF if he had facilities for the winter to have an event like CTMF. He said he does and would love to do it. I have emailed him since then to try and get more details, but he has not yet responded.

I was thinking of doing a "Make our own Long Weekend" in February since there is that terrible January to March period with no holidays.

Would anyone else be into this?
