hamilton
Tooly, Lassie's real name happens to be the name of a Grateful Dead song (albeit with a different spelling). Sounds good; eh? ... But it's arguably the most despised Dead song there ever was, that was invariably met with a communal groan from the entire stadium whenever a jam-tease of an old favourite would turn into it. (I'm not saying which song.)I guess I'll be playing that at our wedding.Hang on a minute... are you saying that your girlfriend's name is "Keep Your Day Job"? timouse
If Dead's not reaching too far, and maybe I'm stuck on a tune lately, but "Crazy Fingers" seems utterly dilectable.I'm thinking now too of Diesel Dog's "All". Sunshine
keep em coming.Ween definetly counts...Stay Forever was actually my first choice to be on it.Great Tune - that's mine and Gateaux's song.....
Kaidy Mae
Whoa! Good call Tim. When I was traveling, Standing on the Moon would always make me so homesick. Great tune. Freeker, how about some Ben Harper? He's not "jamband" especially (but who really is?). He does a pretty damn swanky cover of Sexual Healing. I have a really good one if you want a copy sent your way. I think it's from a Chicago show. Also, throw some Joel Plaskett on there. Happen Now, Natural Disaster & You Came Along are all nice and sappy. That and Ben will hopefully be a good mix with some of the more jammy stuff. Not especially jam-related, but other nods would go to... Wilco The Bees Down With the Sound -BNB Somewhere Over the Rainbow -Israel Kamakawiwo'ole She Smiled Sweetly -Stones And I think it was SCI who did a nice cover of Walkin' On the Moon Word of advice: Make sure you use songs that you can stand to hear 1000 times...just in case she really likes the mix. This is where I'd cross Waste off the list.

I remember my brother would always get upset when he would introduce me to a new group or song, cause it would play, and re-play, and play 100 times. He also got mad cause I could never get the lyrics right (I always had my own version )

bradm
"If One Of Us Should Fall" by The Slip could be a good addition. ISTR it being on the CD that Pablo Sanchez and kittykat gave out at their wedding.Aloha,Brad
Kaidy Mae
What's wrong with Waste? There's nothing wrong with Waste. I really like it and it's a beautiful song. However, it was a little over done for me. Every person I'd introduce Phish to would take a fanatical shine to that song. The next thing I knew it was on every friggin' road trip/summer mix/party soundtrack CD out there. It was one of my faves and was nearly ruined. Beware. bradm
Thanks, Del. "Big Country" is by Bela Fleck & The Flecktones. Is track 5 really titled "The Day You Were Born"? There's a The Slip song whose title is "Before You Were Born", and I think that one might be on the CD. (It's also a great one to include.)"Last Train Home" is a Pat Metheny track.Aloha,Brad

He also got mad cause I could never get the lyrics right (I always had my own version ) This comment made me laugh as when I first was getting into Phish years ago, my friend gave me Junta and one of my favourite tunes was "Golgi" and one night when we were partying away, I was singing (at the top of my lungs I must add) what I thought were the correct chorus lyrics..."I Saw You With A Chicken Sub In Your Hand" and when my friend heard me singing this he almost passed out from laughing so hard for about 1/2 hour...a little red in the face but one of my favourite memories... As for "Jamband" love songs...I'll stop here...

Aloha, Brad I figured it was the Bela Fleck Big Country, but I wasn't sure... Track 5 is indeed The Day You Were Born... If it was Before You Were Born I would know it was by The Slip... Thanks for the Last Train Home info, I should have known Lauzon would have had a Metheny track on there...

MarcO
You can't expect a scene that wil support a band called "Psychedelic Breakfast" to focus on a lot on heart-on-your-sleeve love songs. This scene has more in common with a room full of pimply-faced Dungeon & Dragons-obsessed virgins than some suave, smooth operators.Phish wrote a slow love song once. It was absolutely gorgeous. People still complain about it.
