Paan
Ahh funk, near and dear to me.There is a five-disk funk compilation that I have called 'In Yo Face'. A ton of great funk on this one. Alot of the late 60's and 70's stuff. Don't bother with disc 5, gets into the cheesy 80's stuff. Also, some of my favourites are:- James Brown - In the Jungle Groove- Herbie Hancock - Thrust or Headhunters (jazzy funk)- Sharon Jones- Stevie Wonder- Oneness of Ju Ju- Billy Cobham- The Meters- Tower of Power- Sam Kininger- Carl Denson (who sadly enough I don't have, but have heard some great funk from him)- Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic Enjoy! jaybone
Look for a compilation called Bay Area Funk. It's an awesome collection of gritty old school funk dedicated to or performed by artists from the Bay Area. My personal favorite track is Foxy Girls in Oakland. NewRider
that is a typo... it's 3:33 and it's the same version from the 1972 album "Still Bill".If you're interested though on Widespread Panic's live album "Night of Joy" they do a cover of the song with Dirty Dozen Brass Band for a good eight and a half minutes. Good stuff.
AWeeJig
Check Out: East Bay Rhythm - A Little Love Will Help It's a great album. I was once a proud owner of this pre-headhunters album and it's got some infectious funk on it. Overplay and drunkeness lead to the ultimate downfall of the cd sadly enough though. I'll have to grab that again.
