BILL GRAHAM'S VAULT IS OPEN

www.wolfgangsvault.com

JamBase has just received news that a plethora of vintage performances

from some of rock's biggest names are now available through Wolfgang's

Vault.

Vault Radio has begun streaming some 75 songs culled from thousands of

hours of tapes from the archives of legendary promoter Bill Graham. It

appears that some of these performances from Graham's archive will

eventually make it to stores, perhaps by the end of the year.

Located in a 22,000 square foot warehouse in San Francisco, Wolfgang's

Vault boasts authentic concert materials from such artists as Johnny

Cash, Miles Davis, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Rolling Stones, U2, Tom

Petty, Jimi Hendrix and the Who.

The bulk of the music was obtained for more than $5 million in 2003 by

entrepreneur Bill Sagan who named it in honor of Graham, born Wolfgang

Grajonca. Graham died in a 1991 helicopter crash.

The initial Vault Radio playlist is "all over the board in terms of

performer, year, venue and genre," Sagan tells Billboard.biz. "You'll

hear Miles Davis, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen from 1973 when he

opened

for Blood, Sweat & Tears at the Berkeley (Calif.) Community Theatre,"

Sagan says. "You'll hear instrumental-only from Booker T & the MGs, and

you'll also hear Jeff Beck and Elton John. The single thread of

continuity is these are all concerts Bill Graham promoted from the

mid-1960s

through 1975, for the first group."

The site is free and requires no subscription fee for streaming at

128k.

I was looking through some stuff on the weekend... I saw a Grateful Dead handbill for sale for $6,610.

I'm trying to listen right now but can't hear anything. Hmm.

I'm reading Bill's bio... can't wait for some of those shows I've been reading about to start coming out.

How' the Schoolhouse t-shirt fit ya, SolarG!? :D

Thanks for posting this SolarGarlic, I was trying to find the thread I saw on here a week or so ago maybe about this, but couldn't for the life of me remember any details about it, or who posted it.

Hey Steve, you maybe interested in some of these recordings then. Quality varies though, but there is sopme serious music going down.

The Cream Remasters

Just have to get my laptop first though.

i really need to get my hands on the BSandT show....

If you like the Blood, Sweat and Tears you'll love the Tower of Power they have that comes around every once in a while on their stream. The Tumbleweed Connection era Elton is top drawer as is the Elvis Costello stuff (the Radio has the drummer or someone going 'oosh oosh oosh ooosh' along with the big drum part - anyway it just sounds so cool).
