ersh
When driving back to our hotel from Zaphods Wednesday night, we saw a large deer running alongside our van (doing 50 or 60), jumping over things, and staying with us for a good minute or so... most of the time staying a little bit aheaad of us even. This was on Rideau in front of Parliament. Prety cool to see, but kinda confusing too. Are there deer downtown often?
Patchoulia
Perchance a group hallucination? From the sounds of this deer's acrobatic escapades, I had to ask..

Patchoulia
I am picturing a deer, flitting down the sidewalk, vaulting park benches, pirouetting on mailboxes and possibly singing Christmas carols. Good times!
Freak By Night
There are a lot of deer in the outskirts of town, near the more forested areas, at this time of year. Car - deer collisions at night are quite common lately.Deer in the downtown area are uncommon, but not unheard of. No deer for a month! Edited November 10, 2006 by Guest Homer reference. jonyak
I work down by shirley'd bay, and there are regularly at least 5-8 deer that come out when I'm heading home every day.one big buck and a ton of does. But there is alot of forest around there, but still only like 5 minutes outside of a heavily populated area. Patchoulia
I think Ottawa would be wise to work this into a tourism campaign..something along the lines of...Come to Ottawa! Our Nation's Capital! And the home of the world's ONLY city-dwelling troupe of acrobatic deer!C'mon. It's genius.

Where is there any forest or even a park downtown in Ottawa? That's fuckin' insane! That would have made One Helluva PHOTO in front of Parliament!Sorry I didn't make it out. My friend Randy from work (barcode) was there though and had the usual great things to say about the show.Make Peter come here on weekends... AD
I've seen a wolf in the Glebe, but not deer so close to the river. I've seen deer on the Queensway a fair distance from the greenbelt though.

bagochips
The deer probably swam across the Ottawa river from the Gatineaus. Lots of deer in the park there, very near. Last fall the cops were chasing a bear through Westboro.
bouche
since when could deers swim? I don't like that theory. I'm guessing that the Deer was at the Peter Elk show and a Cougar started hitting on the Deer and the Deer took off running.

traveler
Deer can cross the railway bridge at Lebreton flats. Then Its just a short gallop to the peace towers.
Patchoulia
If the city would simply remove all the "Deer Crossing" signs, the deer would have no choice but to remain on one side of the road in the woods...
