FunkyBeats
I just bought, the new Scofield, MMW album and the Julie cover is breathtaking, absolutely beautiful. Wow, these boys can play.
MK
I'm finding it directionless and generally lacking in ideas. I don't really want to hear these guys do 'beautiful' I guess. A Go-Go means a lot to me and this doesn't touch it.
afro poppa
Yea the new album is good, but I think aside from the first track it's not as good as A Go Go. Although it's different so that may not be a fair comparison. Regardless, I recommend it to everyone and I can't wait to catch MMW and Sco live...one day. mark tonin
I bought it a few weeks ago and like it, but don't love it. Nothing spectacular in my humble opinion. Having said that, I'd still love to see this band live.Peace, Mark
afro poppa
Mark, have you ever caught MMW play with a guitarist? I've seen em play with a few various guys and its friggen awsome when they got one in the mix...
mark tonin
I've never seen it happen with a guitarist, and to be honest, I've only seen MMW once. But I'm itchin' for another experience. My only MMW experience was in Toronto at the Guvernment on Oct. 30, 1999 and I was mesmerized by Billy Martin ... I don't think I've ever seen a drummer hit so many drums in so many ways.A guitarist added to the MMW mix live would be superlicious I am sure.Peace, Mark
MarcO
My wet dream is MMW + Bill Frisell.I'd go irrevocably insane.I haven't heard this album in question yet and maybe it doesn't top A Go-Go. But it's still gotta be a fairly sure bet. I had crab cakes at dinner.

FunkyBeats
I understand what your are saying, I generally don't look to MMW and Sco for beautiful, I look for funk and am often disappointed with free form jazz in the live environment, however this is an album that needs serious listening and while it may not eclipse A Go-Go I think it has a lot more to say than what you may hear at first glance.P.S. I may be influenced by my recent acquisition of Phil & friends with Sco at the Warfield, Nice, I like!
Jay Funk Dawg
Phil n' Friends with Sco blew my brains.. I tried to get this disc today, but the store said it was an import, the album is out on IllyB's own label... anyone having a hard time getting a copy? shainhouse
I need to digest it once more. The first song is brilliant and then it teeters off. Saying that, it's still better than most of the jazz/funk out there.

It wouldn't hurt to play in key for a few bars. I mean I love tension but if thats all there is I get bored. That being said MMW and Scofield are some of the most talented musicians there is. I would go out of my way to see them live though, too bad theres no canadian dates.
FunkyBeats
It is hard to get, I got the last copy from the superstore HMV. I hate this import bullshit!
dimafleck: the living legend.
a go go isn't even that great either imo.....i mean...the title track is awsome. but other than that...meh.
Weirdness
I thought that this bad boy was a solid listen. No question, not A Go Go, but remember--that was a John Scofield album, this is MSMW and the influence here is clearly dominated by the MMW side of things. The Out in Out Louder implies that this one is a bit more out there and as always, out there becomes less accessable to the masses.

bouche
I can't seem to find anything wrong with it. It just feels good. Maybe I just love Sco's guitar sounds. He even makes Phil and Friends sound professional
