Jay Funk Dawg
www.nufunk.ca & www.forwardmusicgroup.com presents.... GRAND THEFT BUS (New Brunswick) www.grandtheftbus.com w/ LOVE MACHINE (Ottawa) DOWN WITH THE BUTTERFLY (Halifax) Friday, October 5th, 2007 The Rivoli www.rivoli.ca 322 Queen St. W Toronto, On Grand Theft Bus www.grandtheftbus.com Powerful.Catchy.Compelling.Eclectic.Emotional . "Have you ever watched a band play live and thought that the musicians were meant to play together? If not, then you should seek out Grand Theft Bus. The machine-like drumming of Bob Deveau is perfectly paired with Graeme Walker's precision bass lines. Add to that the tasteful chord progressions of Tim Walker's guitar and the many layers of Dennis Goodwin's chaotic and scattered guitar and synth lines, and you have the makings of one of Canada's most exciting, intense and original bands. With two full-length albums under their belt, Grand Theft Bus are currently putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to their widely-acclaimed 2005 sophomore release Flies In The No-Fly. If you like rock music that is intelligent and fun with interesting lyrics, tight vocal harmonies and indie/pop/rock sensibilities...then you will enjoy Grand Theft Bus." In 6 years, the band has released two acclaimed full length albums revered by both fans and critics a like. GTB have toured Canada in it's entirety 4 times, playing well over 700 shows from clubs to theatres to festivals. In turn, they have earned a reputation as a thrilling, must-see live act and have snowballed into an outfit well worthy of their large and loyal fan base across the country. TheLove Machine www.thelovemachineband.com/wp/ Composed from the ashes of two previous Ottawa bands, the dance-inspiring pep that is the Love Machine came together in early 2004 around the line-up of Sean Prescott (guitar/vocals), Allan Gauthier (guitar/vocals), Jordan David (Bass/vocals) and Mike Laing (drums/vocals). They’ve spent the three years since their inception honing and refining both their sound and their live show. Their eponymous debut EP, released a year after the band’s formation, established their sound with definition. Jangly yet intense guitars, huge synth melodies, pulsing bass, stomping drums, and more vocal harmonies than should be legally allowed compose their energetic pop sound. Each piece of the sound is equally important in the songwriting, as the band writes without a primary songwriter. This collective approach to writing, along with the fact that every member in the band contributes vocals, makes The Love Machine’s sound an extremely unique and fresh one in the crowded pop scene. The lyrics aren’t shabby either, contributing humor-tempered drama to their sound. In standout track “We Are Squirrels And This is Nuts (The Family Song),†lead singer Sean Prescott calls out, “This is the way that we scream our hearts out,†to which the rest of the band ironically replies with a chorus of mellow doot doots. These are guys that don’t take themselves too seriously, but sober up significantly when talking about the future of the band. Down the Butterfly www.downwiththebuttefly.com www.myspace.com/downwiththebutterfly Progressive pop rockers David Scholten (vocals), Kris Pope (guitar), Jason Burns (drums), and Ian Sherwood (bass), enjoy making intense, beautiful and insightful music. They don't shop at malls and they are conscious of sharing with their neighbours. They download music but they still buy CD's. They are lighthearted guys who take their band very seriously. Down With The Butterfly is a family of idealists trying express their thoughts about a beautiful world that often tears us apart. Down With The Butterfly is from Eastern Canada (the Band was born in Halifax, NS) and is inspired and encouraged there. They've been a band since May of 2005 and with the help of industry, fans, and friends, tour non-stop throughout Eastern Canada and released their debut CD, 'RISE', in May of 2006. presented in association with: www.nufunk.ca www.myspace.com/nufunk Edited October 5, 2007 by Guest HYPE IT! lara
The love machine... since their press pic is somewhat obscure, here's a pic I took a few weeks back. Super pop-rock band, they're young with a kickass debut album... I'd say go early and check them out. Sean Preston (centre) is the heart of the band, great voice and sweet lyrics. deranger
Can you guys please play for more than an hour? I realize the 12:15AM time slot only leaves an hour and forty five minutes till last call, but c'mon.....the CMW show was like 45 minutes and we all really need at least 1.5 hours of GTB to last until the next Toronto show....maybe that chick will get up on stage again and smooch the bass player like last time....but only if you guys play more than an hour.
