Hartamophone
From jambands.comOn the penultimate night of JJ Grey & MOFRO’s mini-tour with Assembly of Dusts, the new friends collaborated onstage for the first time. During Assembly of Dust’s set at New Haven, CT’s Toad’s Place, Grey took the stage to help the group through a funky rendition of "Love The One Your With." The gig took place a night after Assembly of Dust leader Reid Genauer was violently ejected from Boston’s The Roxy after Assembly of Dust’s performance. According to the singer, he was trying to escort some friends and family backstage after his performance when the night club's manager refused to let them pass. When Genauer protested, the club's manager told him and the rest of his band to “get out.†The Roxy has had recent tension with the City of Boston after the club’s capacity was reduced from 1300 to 750 following a violent incident in the club.“He was shouting get out at me, the band, our wives. It was almost comical given we had literally just gotten off the stage 10 minutes prior,†says Genauer. When Genauer refused to leave, the Roxy's manager called for bouncers to physically remove Genauer from his own show. In the confusion that ensued Jack Trifiro, Assembly of Dust's tour manager, was punched by security. “In hindsight,†says Genauer, “it was really ludicrous. I’m a 5’9†geeky singer, not exactly a security risk for a gang of 300 pound bouncers.†I hart bouncers.

Patchoulia
From another board I visit...posted by Jack, the tour manager who got punched:"I'm fine... Making it clear tho--it was NOT Wizard Security that was involved. Live Nation had hired Wizard as security for our show, but once the show was over, house security took over. Wizard guys were actually trying to help the situation. I was hit by overzealous security guys while trying to seperate Reid and the bouncers... All the time yelling 'let him go, I will take him out of here'... All they had to do was release him and I would have escorted him out the door (which is what I eventually did)"

bradm
anybody here heading to the canton, ny show? I'm hoping to go. According tohttp://www.jambase.com/Shows/Event.aspx?EventID=606451that show (Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007) is at the Java Barn, which is a tiny venue, smaller, I think, than Cafe Dekcuf. If I can get a ride, I might be tempted to go (although it's still early, and something closer to home might pop up for that date).Aloha,Brad

bradm
As an alternative to getting a hotel room, I think Canton, NY is actually close enough to Ottawa (about an hour and a half drive, according to MapQuest) to make driving home afterwards workable. And if it is at the Java Barn, it's a dry venue (at least, it was when Velvet and I and nero were there in November, 2003), so it's pretty easy for a driver to enjoy the show designatedly. Is there any chance I can get in on the minivan, Rob? (I'm about 50/50 as to whether I'll be going.)Aloha,Brad

Canton is a rad little town, I wish I were around for this. Edited October 11, 2007 by Guest

Big Wooly Mammoth
If I go (and I probably will) I'll be driving back after the show. I can give you a lift Brad. Patchoulia
Some good stuff in this interview, for those interested....http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/reid-genauer-doesnt-want-to-fight-you/"If you’re picturing frontman Reid Genauer standing over the Roxy’s manager like Muhammed Ali triumphantly towering over Sonny Liston, repeating “That’s folk-rock, motherfucker, that’s the taste of singer-songwriter fists of fury†over and over, then, well, you’re probably alone..." Northern Wish
I love his synopsis of the 'new' Slip:Bucket Three would be like current bands that are about and out that I dig. I really was blown away by The Slip’s last album, so I’ve listened to that quite a bit. They pulled a 180 — I guess it wasn’t a 180, but they pulled a 90 at least. It was, in my estimation, such a flawlessly recorded and well-written album.
