allison
Some 62 per cent of the people who downloaded "In Rainbows" in a four-week period last month opted not to pay the British alt-rockers a cent. But the remaining 38 per cent voluntarily paid an average of US$6, according to the study by comScore Inc. The results of the study were drawn from data gathered from a few hundred people who are part of comScore's database of two million computer users worldwide. The firm, which has permission to monitor the computer users' online behaviour, did not provide a margin of error for the study's results. Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 29, about 1.2 million people visited the website the band set up for fans to download the album, comScore said Monday. The research firm did not say how many people in its study actually bought the album. Among U.S. residents, about 40 per cent who downloaded the album paid to do so. Their average payment was $8.05, the firm said. Some 36 per cent of the fans outside the U.S. who downloaded the album opted to pay. On average, those fans paid $4.64, according to the study. -

NewRider
I'd probably enjoy the album more if I was! For some reason I just haven't dug anything they've done for the last 3 records. Don't shoot me.

Esau.
What made me laugh the most was still seeing people complain that the bitrate was too low, even though the album was free. Says alot really, especially since some of those people claimed to be Radiohead fans.
Velvet
So they made almost three million extra dollars by leaking the cd themselves.I stand corrected. This is innovative.
YearsAlongTheSea
Radiohead put out a free album? Dial-up sucks, ya'll need to keep me in the know a little better. Maybe I'll take my computer to the big city and get myself a copy...
MarcO
I saw a lot of online reaction from people saying thay, yes, they paid nothing for the download, but that they fully intended on buying the CD proper when it comes out next year: "why pay twice?" was their stance. bouche
I'd think it makes perfect sense to believe that of the 62% slice, 90% were probably people who would never have bought the disc anyway and they are more than likely new fans who would pay to see them live and purchase radiohead product in the future.
