Rob Not Bob
quote:Originally posted by Dr. Cheech: Play that funky music - Sly and the Family Stone Poppa was a rolling stone - Sly and the Family Stone Point of correction, Play That Funky Music was by Wild Cherry, and Poppa Was A Rolling Stone was by the Temptations. Other awesome stuff from that period of the Temptations include Cloud 9, Psychedelic Shack, and of course Ball Of Confusion. My favorite Sly and the Family Stone tunes are Wanna Take You Higher, Spaced Cowboy, Thank You For Talkin' To Me Africa (a remake of Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again) Stand and Family Affair. Other tunes I don't think have been mentioned yet : Bootsy? (What's The Name Of This Town?) - Bootsy Collins Psychoticbumpschool - Bootsy Collins Roto-Rooter - Bootsy Collins Stretchin' Out (in a rubber band) - Bootsy Collins Cosmic Slop - P-Funk Red Hot Mama (live) - P-Funk Standin' On The Verge Of Gettin' It On - P-Funk Part Time Love - Isaac Hayes Do Your Thing - Isaac Hayes Get Down - Curtis Mayfield Beautiful Brother Of Mine - Curtis Mayfield If There's A Hell Below We're All Gonna Go - Curtis Mayfield The Great Curve (live) - Talking Heads Housequake - Prince Lovesexy - Prince Dark Magus (entire album) - Miles Davis Agharta (entire album) - Miles Davis I could go on (and have) ... And while you're off in that direction, I'd check out "Elephant Talk" by King Crimson & "I Am What I Am" by Adrian Belew. Definitely not traditionally what you'd consider funk, but groovy for sure. - M.
bradm
It may be more disco than funk, but "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate is pretty good, and an almost textbook example of the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-and-1* funk pattern. Aloha, Brad * George Clinton, when asked what his "One Nation Under A Groove" title meant, replied, "Everybody on the one."
