CyberHippie
For some reason today I'm feeling like a little bit of hip hop. Nothing too crazy, maybe something that fuses a few genres together and has some hip hop influence? Any downloads? Maybe Jurassic 5 or something? colinw
Check out some Tribe Called Quest. I don't know how many live shows are around, but if you find anything you will enjoy it.
CyberHippie
G'd morning MarcO... So begins another day. So, I had come across a copy of the Roots phrenology one time, but I really didn't dig it at all. Is that a pretty good representation of what they are like? PalacePrincess
you could try some oldskool de la soul. and the beastie boys are always good for a nice genre-inspired mix.
CyberHippie
Groove is in the heart is a kick ass song, I especially love when the Fat Cats play it.
kung
Seriously check out some Aceyalone. Really good tracks include 'Master Your High' (hilarious) and 'Accepted Eclectic' is his anthem. Also worth some listens are the Grouch ('Don't talk to me about car troubles'), Slug and Dose One ('Revenge of the Fern'). Check out Acey and Dose if nothing else. questcequecest?
roots manuva has funky beats, and a thick brit accent, so its fun trying to decipher his lyrics... try the 'stakes is high' album by delasoul, or 'things fall apart' by the roots. herbaliser, rae & christian, company flow, and nightmares on wax make some funky instrumental hiphop beats. common, common sense is great too. "... and it sounds so right, hip hop you the love of my life."
CyberHippie
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Definetly some stuff to check out. mikey d
i like talib kwali or d'angelo when i want something more hip-hoppy. check out roy hargroves newest disc, hard groove, with the rh factor. its a perfect fusion of jazz and hip-hop with some wicked guest apearences by some good mcs. CyberHippie
Interesting... I caught Roy Hargrove this summer at the Jazz Festival. The performance was soooo boring. There was one tune where the crazy organ player just started to take off, then it all went back to bland mellow R&B. However, from what I understand Roy Hargrove does a lot of different things, so I won't rule him out, just that particular incarnation.

hamilton
A bit late now, I know, but what about Us3's "Hand On The Torch"? Rappers rap over beats and samples from old BlueNote jazz albums...
