Freak By Night
If you'll have your car on your trip, there are power converters that you plug into the car's lighter socket. These things supply 120V AC. Canadian Tire sells 'em.

elemeno
Buy a second batteryfor the laptop, adjust the the power settings and check the BIOS for additional power saving options.
TheAlphaNerd
You can make charging solutions using batteries and some simple circuits... but you would be wasting a ton of AA'shttp://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/03/diy_multicharger.htmlYou could also do something with pedal power http://www.los-gatos.ca.us/davidbu/pedgen.htmlI have also seen people make batteries out of trash a la Back to the future 2... but I can't find a link atm

Velvet
Wow. A generator connected to my bicycle tire would be quite ideal. I checked dude's website but I won't be building myself one in the next week. Has anybody ever heard of a commercial device that will create storable power from cycling? TheAlphaNerd
@velvet... if you got some money and will cover materials I could make it for you over the next week... it is a quiet work week (made no money yet this week )
Velvet
What I need is a generator that attaches to the bike and comes with me, not the kind where the bike stays stationary. My top two ideas are currently: extra battery for the 'puter or paper and pencil. questcequecest?
Free the Sun! 5.5W PV Panel ...not sure if this would provide sufficient power, or if you would need an inverter. Worth looking into, I figure.Or if you go fast enough, one of these: 400W Wind Turbine
phishtaper
will you be there during that time? if so, gas powered generator, fired up as needed to charge, im afraid. everything else wouldnt likely be quickly cost effective, im guessing. bouche
what about a voice recorder? You can record HOURS of dictation and type it out when you get home. I have something to lend you if that would work for you.
