phorbesie
It’s usually not a major story when a man in his 60s faceplants and has to be rushed to the hospital. But when that man is 64-year-old Jimmy Buffett, TMZ’s certainly going to be on the scene. On the final night of his four-night Sydney concert stand — his first shows in Australia in 20 years — Buffett fell off the stage and had to be rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital after laying unconscious for five or 10 minutes. The sold-out crowd was ushered out of the Hordern Pavilion. The Daily Telegraph adds this twist of fate to the story: “Buffett had performed at the Opera House for three sell-out shows before last night’s Australia Day performance which was a late add-on to accomodate fans unable to get tickets to the performances earlier in the week.â€According to TMZ: An audience member in the front row tells TMZ it appeared Buffett was unconscious for about 5-10 minutes and that he had a huge gash on his head. Paramedics arrived 15 minutes later.Sean Fogarty, who was also front and center, tells TMZ Jimmy was doing his solo at the end of the concert, walking along the edge of the stage when the lighting person splashed “a huge flash of light†along the stage, making it impossible to see and he fell. Fogarty says the next thing he knew he heard Buffett’s head strike the metal on his way to the floor.Another audience member who was close to the stage, tells TMZ a slightly different story …. that it looked as if Buffett was about to jump off the stage to shake hands when he misjudged the jump and fell. The audience member also says he saw Buffett’s head strike a metal strip on his way down.Buffett is listed in stable condition but will stay in the hospital for observation.http://hypervocal.com/news/2011/jimmy-buffett-takes-a-header-in-sydney-listed-as-stable/

Northern Wish
I wonder why it took paramedics 15 minutes to arrive at the scene? They should have been on site, in constant communication with the stage manager and security. Shouldn't have taken more than a few minutes at worst.... Davey Boy 2.0
maybe there's a difference between the first aiders that they'd typically have at a show and bona fide paramedicsor they'd juuust thrown anotha shrimp on the barby
bouche
Buffett is one of a kind. That's not always a compliment. Example: "Bob Weir is one of a kind"Here's painful video of the spill. OUCH!
Northern Wish
maybe there's a difference between the first aiders that they'd typically have at a show and bona fide paramedicsI think it was just poor reporting: Within 30 seconds of his fall, you can clearly see on the video the yellow security shirts arrive- followed closely behind by some red shirts which I can only assume are paramedics (the logo on the shirt seems to support this- but it is a bit fuzzy).
