Hal Johnson
I was listening to the NHL network's show on Sirius last night and Bettman was broadcasting from Ottawa. To lead into commercial they started playing "Ripple", and I thought, wow, they let Booche get control of the audio booth at the NHL network. When they came back from commercial "Box of Rain" had started and no one was speaking. The co-host said something and Bettman snapped out of it and apologized for getting lost in the song, and mentioned that every now and then they play music that he likes. Never woulda thought it about him, but there ya go. Hey, there's been worse Dead reference threads on this board in the past

phishtaper
LOL ... if they had been playing metal thrash, the Poison Dwarf would have said he liked that as well. Gary Bettman has never uttered a truthful word in his entire life. He simply tells people what he thinks they want to hear.

TheSloth
Well Gary was born in '52 so he was right in the thick of it. I think the mental image of Gary dropping acid while holding some nag champa and spinning American Beauty is awesome.
Booche
Didnt you and Bettman once hang out underneath a parked car at RFK in 92 prior to a show?
TheSloth
No, it was underneath the highway overpass at Albany in '90. Mother fucker was completely spun, rambling about how this thing called "HD television" was going to save hockey in the US market.

Booche
Great article about Bettman from a former, albeit briefly, employee I wanted to create a new topic because I am afraid this read will get lost in the shuffle but come on. As if I couldnt bump this! Seriously though, great read. Looking forward to Hal's high-five.
Hal Johnson
Double high five! Good read indeed. His legacy will be complex. There will always be the sheep that only see him as the guy behind the lockouts (which is accurate), but the product on the ice has never been better either and the way the game is growing is on him too. c-towns
This sheep will always be pissed that they didn't start negotiating well before the start of the lockout seasons, idiotic.
