Freeker
Apparently Gillian Welch played with Conor Oberst tonight. Did she ever! I was right on the rail and my god what a show! From the very beginning I thought the guitar player looked familiar, turned out to be Dave Rawlings, incredible! Then about half way through the show they bring out another guest who happened to be Gillian freakin Welch! The show was amazing, a perfect blend of Bright Eyes and Mystic Valley Band tunes and the set was even more countrified the usual thanks in no small part to the very special guests. The sound bleed from the Arkells, which Gillian called "Getting Skrillex'd" and the mostly teenage crowd who were indifferently waiting out the magic in front of them so they could screech at Dallas Green were the only downsides of a otherwise perfect show. rubberdinghy
interesting design for the merch this year  i checked out the poster last night and it was a sort of 3D rhomboid of screens, encased in a ball of lightning in a dark sky. t- shirt That shirt looks kinda like a large storm brewing over the capital, preparing to bring down a stage again... ollie
Props to security at the Sleigh Bells show last night, handing out free water bottles and ear plugs. I imagine they are doing this at the other stages as well. Smart move!
Cosmic ChrisC
Anyone in for Maiden? Betcha not, huh.Bluesfest has been fun up to now!! Better than I expected! I like the smaller attendances, and the quick access to beers.
bouche
props to security and all staff. super pleasant people everywhere. Had a great conversation with one of the security staffers minding the LMFAO gate. he said they were assholes that only had 2 songs and wouldn't let him take a picture with them. From the conversation both dudes were there, and they were blazing on the bus so that story of a back problem made me think that they're reason for not being a duo was a crock of shit. bouche
what a band...what a crowd.Intriguing. Tell me more!explosions, guitar poses, running up and down risers, screeching "Ottawa!", and a dude that climbed one of the speaker towers by the soundboard who got pulled down and escorted out by the cops. A completely different energy than DJ's.
ollie
Line of the night from Bruce Dickinson which I'm sure made Mark Monahan cringe: "This stage is a little bit Spinal Tap."

Freeker
Seal pulled off the biggest dick move I've ever seen last night, he wouldn't get off the stage and ended up playing into Norah Jones by 15 mintues. She had to start her set and for a few songs both stages in the main bowl we're going at once. Even when the stage manager waved him off the dick took the time to intro the band and go into another song. Wow just wow.
AD
Sounds like the stage manager needs to grow a spine. Total dick move by Seal. Edited July 9, 2012 by Guest
Freeker
Naw Mark is one of the toughest little dudes I've ever met. Only option was to cut power and you just don't do that, it looks completely unprofessional especially when you have a massive crowd eating out of performs hand. All you can do is just ride it out apologize to Norah and never ask stupid fucking Seal back again.Anyone else catch Norah Jones doing "It Must Have Been The Roses" ? it was absolutely sublime. AD
Two stages going at once is at least as unprofessional (I'd say even more) as enforcing a curfew between songs that the performer agreed to. Cutting one stage = upsetting 1 artist and 1 audience. Letting it go = upsetting the other artist and both audiences. But oh well, it's done. Tough situation. I'm going Tuesday for Zeus, ASAP Rocky and Deltron 3030. Hope it's good. Hope the stink of Nickleback is gone. Oh - anyone see the hatchet job Sun writer Tony Spears did on The Wooden Sky? Ug.
