that cousin dupree song makes me hate steely dan with serious passion. however maybe i should reconsider and listen to some other stuff of theirs

you really should brother. Their mid to late 1970's work is money in the bank, can't go wrong.

Can they still hit the Dirty Work harmonies?

Well Dirty Work was originally sung by David Palmer, a vocalist on their first album.

What they do now is have their backup vocalist Cindy Mizell sing it. And wow does she nail it!

P.S. Cousin Dupree is an amazingly well put together song and the album "2 against nature" is as vital as their classic albums. They won a Grammy for that one in 2000.

OK I will look around. What album is that dupree song on? I'd hate to accidentally uhh.. "acquire" that one and taint my freshly opened mind!

Start at the beginning with Can't Buy A Thrill and listen to them evolve!

2001 Album of the Year Grammy Nominees:

Steely Dan - Two Against Nature

Beck - Midnite Vultures

Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP

Radiohead - Kid A

Paul Simon - You're The One

Weird choice.

I think it is very impressive that the first Steely Dan album since the 70's at that time, won the Grammy.

Not a strange choice in my book. The playing is amazing, the players are world class and the chord changes are top notch. While I also think Kid A and Midnite Vultures are great albums, they do not have the musical sophistication of 2 against nature. I also think the fact that the Dan had been out of the game so long prior had something to do with the choice.

Two against nature is a great album.

Everything must go is the album that followed. It is not as good but is enjoyable and has some decent tracks like "Godwhacker".

We need more bands the caliber of Steely Dan today.

yeah, all great albums, i'm just saying it's a strange choice from a fairly mainstream award show, standard voters. Eminem's album was huuuuuuuuuge and i'm not saying it's better or worse, just that for the award and voters, it's a strange choice to make. good for them though.

Well I think that genius cannot be denied and once in a while the mainstream gets it right.

I'm always a bit lukewarm around this band on accounta cuz of some of the cheesier tunes, but I have to say, any band that can write a song like Babylon Sisters deserves, imo, some respect.

How did that tune come off live, I now wonder?

absolutely fantastic! I was on tour for 4 Steely Dan shows last year which were amazing and this year hey sound even better..

Red hot!

I think there was a bit of a "career award" factor in there as well.

It's a decent album but the production is a little dry. And it certainly didn't have the cultural impact of some of the others on the list.

As much as I love the Dan, I think it was a questionable choice. Not that I give much credibility to the Grammy's in the first place.
