  1. The JUNOs was the biggest pile of shit I have wasted my time on in recent memory. Even having it on the PVR and fast forwarding every word the host had to say and most of the musical performances it still felt like it dragged on forever and we got through it in less than 45 minutes. It was so bad it was funny. At times. But not often enough. At least our friend Quique (Escamilla) won his World Music Juno which somehow made watching worth it as his name only appeared on the screen for about 3.5 seconds.
  2. Riot Fest drew so poorly last year that everyone who entered the Exclaim! contest seemed to win tickets. I don't see them taking any attendees away from TURF.
  3. I'm pretty stoked that I am seeing both Barr Brothers and Drive By Truckers on the SAME BILL! On Mar 15 down in West Virginia they (along with two other artists) are doing something called Mountain Stage, which is a taping for a TV show as far as I can tell. A co-worker is alum there and is getting us set up. I hope they don't just play half hour sets. Good luck KevO!
  4. I bought a CD bootleg version entitled "Playing in the Club" from a shop on Bleeker St. while down in NYC for the NYE 98 run. I played the shit out of it. It was ragged, raw and raucous sounding with the odd clink of a beer bottle (I think Trey even used one for a slide). The artwork was terrible, the cds cost me $40 US - but I was a noob and had gotten tired of average sounding tapes so splurged and never regretted it for a second.
  5. It is pretty amazing what my phone - and I assume most phones, can do with music. I transfer higher quality mp3's (usually of the 320 variety) and have a whole slew of equalizer and sound file options to alter the sound (read: reduce treble). With good headphones (I use Bose), the proper EQ settings and the "Tube Amp" option - my tunes sounds spectacular. And my phone didn't cost $400 for the unit, along $25 per album - but I can also make phone calls! Sorry Neil but the last couple of years have really tarnished the sterling reputation you had enjoyed to this point.
  6. It was way simpler than I thought, VLC media player to the rescue. /thread
  7. I have a Galaxy S tablet and downloaded the PAVtube converter the other day. The trial version puts a watermark right in the middle of the screen and a full version is $52 on a questionable website. I don't want to pay for anything and I don't want watermarks. How do I do this? Most of the vids are xvid. I don't have time for the many android forums and you guys always have an answer. Thanks in advance!
  8. Don't look now C-Towns, but one of the GDTSTOO staff in the back of the room is wearing a Hold Steady shirt. We are everywhere!
  9. I'm Scottish, I will do anything for free. But tbh the lineup is not great, from everything I have read the crowd is a total nightmare and I will be with my boss and a coworker and 2 clients. There was no arm twisting, but I am not thrilled about it.
  10. I think we all just have to accept the fact that we (people our age, not hippies or hipsters- CT) are no longer the target demographic for festivals. I've been sucked in to attending Hangout this year (brutal I know, although it is a free work trip) and they announced additions today. I knew one of the 5 names and only because one of them nicked a Tom Petty melody.
  11. TURF has had a rocky start with it's VIP tickets too: the areas were way off to the side during year 1, but on the second year they figured it out a bit and let VIPs go into the photo pit once the 3 song photographer limit was up. Lots of the amenities described were also non existent and we heard lots of complaining from those that had paid the extra money esp in Year 1. From what I saw from my seat in my vendors booth was that there was about a 2-3 hour period each Saturday when having access to the empty VIP washrooms would have been great as there were HUGE lineups, but there didn't seem to be anything else to really justify the price increase.
  12. Too bad they aren't announcing the schedule before the tix go on sale. How will you decide which day to buy? I suspect this will sell out, unless people are holding on to their $ to see what Bonnaroo North does. I'm wondering because I was thinking the same thing..... According to MMJ's site their are playing both days of Field Trip at the Governor's Ball in NY, who obviously haven't released their daily lineup either.
  13. Yeah, I noticed that this morning Jakis when I looked for a site map because I have never been to Field Trip. Pretty cool that you can actually be inside of Fort York . And that kills the 3rd stage because it would be all sound bleed. Doesn't really matter, they don't need it anyway. What a steal for $120. You would easily pay that just for the 3 main headliners (Shakes, Drugs and Misty) or more.
  14. If you haven't been, the site for this fest is pretty awesome. I wonder if they'll incorporate the third stage area that TURF used last year?
  15. Have you tasted the new Ketchup flavoured Doritos (obvs available in Canada only)? They are even wearing their throwback jersey!
  16. This has all the makings of a "hey let's trash our legacy" event, a la Coventry. And we all know how that turned out ;-)
  17. Yup. What is your email address? I will send it off when I get that info.
  18. I'm not sure if TorrentDay is just video or music too, but I could send you an iptorrents invite if you'd like that (video only).
  19. I loved TURF but won't be able to attend this year due to the change in date. Bah!
  20. I picked up Whodunnit? today! This is not it, but mine is in pretty great condition. The guy had it fully shopped less than 50 games ago. I opened it up and it was spotless- with a few minor mods.
  21. Barr Brothers, SMMD and The Slip all in one weekend. Boy that would be fun, if it weren't for that awful headliner.
  22. Perhaps. What do you think I had for dinner last night? Dr. Dog were incredible!
