  1. I love these guys. See them if you can.

    D'oh!

Of course it is. It is entirely dependent on the degree of the search, such that it wouldn't infringe Charter rights. It would be different if they searched someone's pockets or drawers, but if they look in each room to make sure people are okay, and then see a crime in progress, they are paid to lay charges. They are hired to charge people for committing crimes in the event that they have evidence of a crime obtained within Constitutional limits. Incidentally, what was the reason for the call? No one said anything on the other end. Does that mean they can't lay charges for anything? People need to be realistic.

    D'oh!

Isn't it simply obvious that if a 911 call comes from a residence by someone who was unable to speak into the phone for an unknown reason, it is prudent for the police to take a look around the place to make sure there isn't someone tied up in the basement?
  4. You also get rear-ended by cars from behind you. That is their liability, and nothing you can do about it. I have never had the experience of jumping out of the way due to a noise I heard on the mountain from behind me, and it would be totally impractical to expect anyone to do so. That is why the Code is written that way. It makes practical sense. That said, you can protect your head from injury if someone does hit you from behind. I would suggest a helmet, for that.
  5. I have heard the idea before that it is "unsafe" to wear an ipod while riding. Anyone who has ever said that totally changed their mind after riding with me. First of all, I don't blast music in my ears. I can hear. Second, The Alpine Responsibility Code requires you to be aware of and avoid skiers/riders below you. You are not supposed to be trying to avoid people coming up behind you. Finally, no one would even suggest that deaf people shouldn't ski or ride. It's a red herring argument. It sound like something, until you see a competent rider in action, wearing headphones, as is commonplace where I ride.
  6. I always wear my helmet riding. It is the most comfortable hat I've ever owned, and is wired to my iPod. At this point I couldn't imagine riding the mountain without it. It would feel weird.
  7. Beauty is subjective, and every person is unique. For every body, there is someone who'll find it attractive. There's no cookie-cutter for objectively beautiful.
  8. So, I'm a little late. Whatever. Happy birthday!

  10. I will. There is no release date yet, but when there is I'll post. (I'm glad there's some interest. It sounds like an amazing film, and it's made by very cool people.)
  11. Funny. That's exactly what my friend who made the movie said. hahahahaha
  12. I know it will be at Toronto International Film Fest next year. In the near future... I'm going to see it in Vancouver at a sneak preview in a couple weeks, and I know it will be in Vegas shortly after that. Where can a normal person see it? Good question. So, basically I'm really no help at all. I think it will be a pretty big release, eventually, though.
  13. It's not like I'm just bumping this post to help promote my friend's movie. I really wanted to post the comments in these two sentences.
  14. A rather brilliant film is about to released by a very close friend of mine. The trailer is at www.colethemovie.com and I encourage everyone to check it out, and to tell others to do the same. Apart from a freaky plot, the movie also features the music of: Chad VanGaalen Album Leaf Black Mountain Broken Social Scene Great Lake Swimmers Jason Collett Jon and Roy Ladyhawk This movie is by a brand new film company, which can really use your support.
  15. Really, eh? I thought that contracts in perpetuity were inherently unenforceable in Canada, and instead a term indicating that they can be terminated by either party on "reasonable notice" is imputed instead; should the contract ever be litigated. I was pretty sure this developed out of British law, carried over to Canadian contract law.

  17. From what I know of this Board, I think you'll do better if you remove "Montreal" from the topic-line, and offer to meet your ride in Ottawa. Lots of folks on here from Ottawa, but few (if any?) in Montreal.
  18. I think Chris and Ken Whiteley are opening this show, too. Get there early enough to see them. (I may be wrong, though. I know they were opening at least one show for him.)
  19. See you there! My daughter loves live music. (Me - I can take it or leave it; of course.) What instrument do you play (in case I manage to get close enough to say 'hi')?
  20. See if Flowmotion is playing, or even email them to see what's up. Very friendly, accessible guys; and obviously an amazing band. flowmotion.net
  21. I'm still curious about this, Phishfart420. I've tried looking this up, because there are several venues where bands could play at the Thornhill Festival, but according to the website , those bands aren't playing. Who are they? Where and when? (I'll keep checking back here now and then to see if I get an answer. Thanks in advance).
  22. Who are "Break Down" and "Where's One?"? Also, what time are they playing on the 20th. I'm in Thornhill, and was going to swing by the Village Festival anyway.

    Books

I'm a little biased, because this author is a friend, but this novel by Jon Papernick is amazing, and I really didn't know what was truly happening in the story until the last few pages (although I thought I did) : http://www.amazon.ca/Who-Fire-Blood-Jon-Papernick/dp/1550961020/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219277516&sr=1-2 I've mentioned him here before, mainly back when he had a book of short stories. This novel is far superior, though.
