I believe that one theory on hebophilia is that men, in particular, like younger women for the reason that animals tend to naturally try to reproduce as much as possible. It ensures the continuation of the species. Simply put, younger women have more eggs. It is certainly true, though, that women do the same thing, which may blow some holes in the above theory; unless it happens to be far more common behaviour among men than women. Whether that is or is not the case, I don't know.

How do you draw the line, though? In Canada 14 year olds are allowed to have sex. Should the person with whom they are having sex be only 15? 16? 17? 18? What happens when they turn 17? Should the person they have sex with be only 18? 19? 20? What about your suggested scenario. A girl is 16. A 20 year-old thinks she's hot. She turns 17. The now-21 year-old is still turned on, but does not pursue her. She turns 18 - Is it now cool for the now-22-year-old to pursue her? Is it relevant if she is still in high-school, and he just graduated university? How about if she turns 19, and he is now 23? I certainly don't have the answers; just lots of questions.

Are you familiar with the term "hebophile" aka "ephebophile"? Contrary to the impression left by the above quote, a hebophile digs people of either sex, who have just gone through puberty; and many psychologists regard this as absolutely normal. More info here.

I'm having the best day; and I mean that literally. I have the most annoying client, who I had planned to "fire" today, for many reasons. I simply can't act for him/her any longer. There are some problems with doing this, though, because lawyers are under a duty to continue to represent a client under some circumstances, so you have to be very careful when "firing" such a client. Today, I received an email from said client. The client is firing me! A nice gift for the weekend, indeed.

There's a few from my house, and a few from one of the nights you guys played that gig at whatever the venue is called at Granville Island. Don't you worry, Velvet. You are also prominently displayed in a couple shots. Edit to add: The shots are from the second time you guys came out to see me, when the Punk had already replaced Shane. Unfortunately, I neglected to get a shot of Shane when I had the chance.

I had the same experience. At Basher's recommendation, I bid 57 USD on a three-star hotel. There are no guarantees which one you'll get, but if you choose Ottawa it will be decently located, and all the three-star hotels are great. My offer was accepted at that price, as was Basher's, but he and I ended up with different hotels. Go for it.

Well, I think that's the point. My understanding is that heroin abusers can live a healthy, long life as long as they otherwise treat themselves okay. For instance, I hear Janis Joplin used to practically live on chocolate cake in her heroin days. It was for reasons such as that, which caused her to deteriorate; rather than any direct result from heroin. I believe there are currently innumerable white-collar heroin abusers that you would never be able to identify, because apart from using heroin they live pretty well. This is entirely different than many other drugs that actually harm you themselves; regardless of how healthy your lifestyle might otherwise be. I am no expert on this, and certainly don't encourage anyone to get into heroin, but that is my understanding. (I read up on it after Burroughs died.)

Well, to be accurate, AD and I will be sharing the drum-stool those nights, and each of us will be playing one drum-stick. We've been practicing with our electronic ones. Just wait until we go into our YYZ solo. We're gonna rock!

No kidding! Just ask William S. Burroughs. He spent his whole life on heroin, and then ... BAM ... just like that ... dead at the age of 83.

Could anyone tell me when Dave is supposed to hit the stage on Friday? Lassie and I will be travelling directly from work in Toronto to our hotel in Ottawa to the show, and we will be lucky to get there by ten. (In actual fact, I guess it doesn't matter too much when Dave is going on, because I really can't get there any earlier, but I'm curious.)
