Great lineup, enjoy! I'm looking forward to seeing that 69 Sho Bud Professional in action sometime soon!
  2. This show was captivating, intimate and gorgeous. WOW, still buzzing from it 3 days later. I liked the set up and vibe of the Black Box Theatre - dark and kind of dungeon-like theatre in the round with wooden bleachers around the stage, and an upper balcony hanging over top of it (some stools but more of a standing room thing). It was fairly easy to wander around throughout the show. Lanois started it out with a DJ set with himself on the mixing board. Videos were in full swing. Lanois' entourage was in full force capturing the entire night on various types of cameras and film. The show itself with Brian Blade and Jim Wilson (bass) was so good. Brian Blade blew me away yet again. He really makes those drums speak like no one else. He's the best I've ever seen (Jorn Juul Andersen would be up there with him). And the SOUND was impeccable! The sound coming out of that bass drum was so deep and loud and resonating. Whew. I can't speak much for the setlist but The Messenger was a big highlight and The Maker was also played. Only one (maybe two) songs on the pedal steel. We hung out for quite a while after to soak up the atmosphere and more Stiegls and listen to the dub reggae DJ set afterwards. GREAT night!! CBC Music is supposedly going to continue posting video clips from the two shows all week so check it out.
  3. CeeeRIST last night's show was just gorgeous. I'll hold off til tomorrow so as not to ruin the experience for tonight's show goers.
  4. I know you that this may not help matters much, but someone on Lanois' FB page was looking to unload one for tonight's show: http://www.facebook.com/#!/lanoise
  5. This is tonight!!! And tomorrow! Have a great time folks. Fluff, I hope you found an extra ticket.
  6. My 3.5 pounder has been slow cookin since 8:30am this morning. Can't wait to get home and check it out. It's gonna be zesty!! I did a combo of the Spectator recipe and yours FBN. Here's the slaw I've got going on: http://www.mykitchenaddiction.com/2009/09/mayo-less-mexican-slaw/ But (ironically?) I added some mayo to it. Fluff - no way! Well if you're thinking along the same lines as me, this is gonna be a great St. Patty's Day party favour for all those late afternoon drunks.
  7. I'm heading to the Friday night Lanois show - dang! No shortage of music next weekend in the big smoke (and beyond) with CMW going on.
  8. Looking through this week's NOW mag, a few recently announced shows that caught my attention that I thought I'd post here: Ramsey Lewis, John Scofield, Jill Barber, Tom Scott, Curtis Stigers - the Heavyweights Brass Band and others Jazz Lives 2012 Benefit Concert Koerner Hall $27 and up April 25 Kid Koala Kid Koala’s Space Cadet Headphone Experience 918 Bathurst Centre for Culture & the Arts 9:30 pm, all ages, $25-$30. May 3 and 4. Spectrum Road (Jack Bruce, Vernon Reid, John Medeski, Cindy Blackman-Santana) Toronto Jazz Festival @ Sound Academy 9 pm, $45 torontojazz.com June 27
  9. Thanks! I did a pulled pork once before and it worked out wonderfully, but I can't remember what recipe I used for the life of me. Do you rub the pork shoulder with the spices (paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder, thyme, salt and pepper to taste) before browning? I am going to steal some elements of this Hamilton Spectator recipe as well. My only concern with it is the small amount of liquid they've included. I guess there is the jar of chili sauce. I'll do a combo of that and crushed tomatoes maybe. http://www.thespec.com/living/food/article/478201--tender-pulled-pork-makes-great-weekend-meal Now to find a good slaw..
  10. Koushik is from Dundas too. http://stonesthrow.com/koushik
  11. Caribou, Junior Boys, (maybe some of the) Fat Cats, not to mention Mike Woods - the original "Ass from Dundas". Dundas is where its at!
  12. There are so many slow cooker pulled pork recipes out there -- can anyone recommend one that has worked well for you? I'm hoping to do one up tomorrow.
  13. Great Sisters show last night! I don't have a setlist. Actually this was the first time I've seen the Sisters with the new keyboard player, and it seems like there were a lot of new songs in the repertoire. The new guy (sorry for not remembering names) is a great fit - a monster on the Hammond, with a touch of accordion and vocals. Kevin has an echoplex or a modern equivalent, and was making some mind boggling sounds with it. Has he busted this thing out before? Sounded great. From the stage Kevin said they'll be back for the first Thursday in April and May so you should be good to go Phorbs!
  14. I just caught the last two minutes of moe.'s soundcheck - sounding goood. Enjoy the show!
  15. Not yet.. They said the first Thursday of every month starting in March. But then in actuality scheduled the show for the 2nd Thursday (in March). I (or maybe more likely Brad) will let you know right here when something comes up!
  16. Oh yeah that's the one.. jumped the gun.
  17. Thursday night was also the first time I'd seen other musicians sit in with the band. For those who weren't there, 2 players from Little Scream sat in (one of them being the tall lanky ginger fella from Arcade Fire), and a fiddle player. The last time they played at the Dakota I felt like it didn't work so well. A major chunk of their repertoire is pretty hushed/soft (no negative connotation intended at all), which isn't so conducive to that room. How was that show in Ottawa?
  18. Article on last night's packed show: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/arts/music/barr-brothers-dig-into-soulful-roots/article2356608/ After all these years, it was pretty crazy to look back and see The Great Hall packed as it was for the Barr Brothers. (Balcony was closed though). Enjoyed the gig very much. Little Scream was good too. Enjoy the Ottawa gig folks!
  19. That's on my birthday (and NewRiders?). Lots of heavy hitters already, might have to try to come up!
  20. Alpine Valley over the Canada Day long weekend looking doable too.
  21. Not familiar with that song (will check the video when I'm home) but the mention of a World Tour spurred me to visit the band's tourdates. http://radiohead.com/tourdates/ Very cool to see that Radiohead will be playing in South Korea! I would have been freaking out had this happened while I lived there. Is Jisan a new festival (hamilton)? Anyone aware if more North American dates might get added - either in May/June or perhaps in the Fall? It's cool to see Auckland getting a show as well.
  22. Go Android and go WIND! Unlimited talk/text/data for $30/month.

    Les Sexareenos

Anybody here ever caught these guys before? LES SEXAREENOS http://www.facebook.com/sexareenos Montreal party-stompin' garage rock featuring Mark Sultan (The King Khan & BBQ Show, The Spaceshits), Roy & Danny (CPC Gangbangs, the later also of The Spaceshits) an...d Work With Me Annie (The Sunday Sinners). "Originally founded out of the ashes of another Montreal punk group, this band took its name from a Ron Haydock teen pulp novel. After releasing some EPs and singles, all of which received praise for their incredible energy and live feeling, the group released their debut album on Sympathy for the Record Industry, Live! In the Bed. Touring continued for the group, including stops in Europe, Japan, and Australia. In 2001, the band released Can You Do the Nose Mustache?, another EP. This was prior to an August release of 14 Frenzied Shakers, their sophomore effort on Sympathy. The band has performed at several musical showcases in Canada and the United States, and has toured with the DEADLY SNAKES, the Von Bondies, and the Detroit Cobras among others. A collection of their numerous seven-inch releases, 28 Party Dancers from Montreal's Finest, was released by Sympathy in 2005."
