  1. I know a guy! I'll get you his number.
  2. For every dollar that Canadians donate to an eligible registered Canadian charity (this list not yet specified but certainly World Vision will make the cut), the government will match it with an equivalent contribution towards the East Africa Drought Relief Fund. This'll include donations over a 10-week period (retroactive to July 6, 2011, and ending September 16, 2011). More bang for your buck! Here's Oda's announcement: http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/acdi-cida/ACDI-CIDA.nsf/eng/NAT-72211442-LG3
  3. WOW!!! What an amazing duo, I was completely satisfied even with the high expectation I had. Just Gillian and Dave up on stage giving it their all and never missing a note. They did a lot off the new album, a chunk of older tunes (Sing That Rock & Roll, Red Clay Halo, Miss Ohio, Time: The Revelator, April 14th come to mind). Ruby was the one Rawlings tune they did. They did two 2-song encores, included I'll Fly Away and a surprise cover of White Rabbit to end the night. The Phoenix was PACKED with a mostly really great audience (huge cheers between songs but quiet during). Such a great show, had to let you folks know.
  4. Hey Brad, Snailhouse had a full band. I don't know who any of 'em are unfortunately, but the guy on pedal steel was sounding gooooood.
  5. Yep good times! Nice to see and cheers with a bunch of you skanks. My favourite sets/artists were Snailhouse, KDTU, Kevin Drew w/ The Beauties, Braids, Charlotte Cornfield, Karkwa.
  6. I'm assuming the main beach area is the big beach that overflow campers walk by just before entering the festival - it's a giant beach, so just assuming there isn't a bigger one. Found a map - Campers Beach on this image:
  7. Did you guys see this? http://www.guelphmercury.com/news/local/article/566575--hillside-guests-expected-to-be-in-the-swim No swimming at the main beach. Booo. Anyone know how far the Guelph Lake Pit is from the festival?
  8. Eating Sean's food is one of the many highlights of Hillside for me every year! I haven't been to the Flying Chestnut yet.. But Aasmabik's in PTBO back in the day was thee best.
  9. I'm in! I don't know a ton of the bands this year. Looking forward to seeing KDTU again as well as Seun Kuti, seeing a lot of bands that I've heard (or heard alot about) but have never seen, and lots of others that I've just never heard of at all. Should be a great weekend as usual. Edit: Looking forward to seeing Doug Paisley too!
  10. Big article in today's Globe, complete with infographics. I'm glad you're all ok! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/how-the-ottawa-bluesfest-stage-came-down-and-why-it-could-happen-again/article2101613/

  12. Toronto pre-sales are now all sold out.
  13. It was cool to watch that thing flounder and deflate. My first Destiny Unbound too. Mike is the man this Summer! Boogie On was one of my highlights for sure. Was surprised that there was never a YEM or Steam (though I'm not complaining really). It's amazing that they can let 'er rip for 13+ hours of music and still have plenty of catalogue tunes leftover.
  14. Such a great call playing Quinn The Eskimo. Of course! It's funny, during our pre-festival discussion about what Phish could potentially do to give props to The Band (reflecting on Phish's past selections), I don't recall anyone calling Quinn as a possible selection. (Disclaimer: yes, it is a Dylan tune but the The Basement Tapes connection, etc etc.)
  15. What Cheer? Brigade, who played throughout the grounds at Superball IX, are soon coming to us. I enjoyed seeing them in bits and pieces, but am really excited to see this 19 piece brass band try to squeeze into Rancho Relaxo! The What Cheer? Brigade is a 19-piece brass band from Providence, RI, USA. Our sound is an aggressive mix of Bollywood, The Balkans, New Orleans, Samba and Hip-Hop, played with the intensity of metal. Requiring no amplification, we prove that great parties need no electricity. Our live shows defy boundaries, appealing equally to punks and farmers, old and young. “Thrillingly competent, with undimmable energy…an explosion of good cheer.†-The New York Times “They never actually took a stage, but Providence, RI’s What Cheer? dominated the Newport Folk Fest like a headliner.†-SPIN Since 2005, the band has been as likely to appear at community benefits as at all-night parties, playing bars, clubs, streets, libraries, cemeteries, weddings, bus stops, and playgrounds. In 2010, we joined Anchor Brain Records to re-release our second CD, We Blow, You Suck. We’ve played with Dan Deacon, Man Man, Japanther, Dengue Fever, Okkervil River, Lightning Bolt, Ninjasonik, Mika Miko, Wolf Parade, Matt and Kim, Slavic Soul Party, Javelin, Sage Francis, and Chain and the Gang. We’ve appeared at Lollapalooza, Sziget (Hungary), and Guca (Serbia), offering mobile, intense moments of outdoor revelry. 16. Seriously? That's incredibly weak (although if that tops the list of your "not-so-goods' date='" you had a pretty smooth weekend).[/quote'] Correct on both accounts!
  17. The Phish Super Ball IX facebook page wrote: If you had your Super Ball IX ticket ripped, and lost your barcode to redeem your free MP3 download of the weekend at LivePhish.com, don't fret - Phish Tickets will be emailing all codes directly to you either today or tomorrow (so sit tight and we'll make sure you're taken care of).
  18. What a weekend! My crew was set up in Hawaii or Alaska, it seemed a bit closer to Ball Square and a little more mellow than the big camping area with the Dakotas and all that area. Was there a shakedown over in that area? We wandered over once and were surprised by the absence of fans vending stuff. I was also surprised that I didn't see one Skank all weekend - too bad. I actually only met 1 other Canadian (guy named Ari who commented on my Ti Cats hat). The good: - solid Phish performances all around. Me casa es Mike's casa. - great sound from most everywhere - Pinball Lounge was rockin - Finally made it onto the ferris wheel - Porto potties in my area were well maintained all weekend - Perfect weather! The not-so-good: - No screens. BRUTAL! - Not enough toilets in the concert area - just that one area on stage right by the soundboard. None on stage left, etc. - Security going into the festival (upon arrival and whenever crossing from camping area to the show area) was the tightest I've ever seen at a Phish festival (including Big Cypress & Coventry). We got away with sneaking in a lot of booze but had many fallen soldiers too. - Initial orientation was a bit tricky as there were no site maps distributed upon arrival, and there were no signs indicating which camping area you were in. When I finally DID find site maps I had to beg the guy for one as they were very low on them (which is strange if attendance was indeed low).
  19. Any word on what the specs are like for free show watching at this venue if I lurk about at the back? The set up for the (free) Aretha show was brutal, but I am under the impression that the tent thing was a one-off.
  20. I don't have my Phish Companion handy but I thought they covered The Weight once or twice back in the late 80s..?
  21. SMMD in the Hammer > Daniel Lanois Harvest Picnic in Fundas!
  22. Yep I am going to go. Was planning to be in recovery mode from Hillside on this Monday night, but I've wanted to see Gillian Welch (and Dave) play for years. I gave the new album a listen last night and really like it too.
