Any of you Ottawanians ever eat at Whalebone? It looks: - expensive - attractive - tasty - possibly full of hype but with no delivery Still I hope that one day someone will pay for me to go there. Any good though?

    CSA's

lol, it does look like it's run by kids! Kind of weird. This is one of the cheaper CSAs available in Ottawa so who knows.. Ollie - Bryson Farms is food box delivery service but isn't a CSA. In a CSA, you pay a set amount of money at the start of a season to buy a share in one farm, and you are invested in that farm for the entire season. So we're committed to them and there's a box of food with our name on it for about 19 weeks in a row, whether we want it or not. If the farm doesn't fare well this season, either will we, and vice versa. Also we don't pick what we want to receive in our food box (not sure if you do or do not with Bryson). Yeahh Dhingy, well I live close enough to Parkdale market that its hard to justify taking the bus. It'd probably take me longer too! My new job (if they keep me on into July and beyond) is around the corner from Parkdale Market so looks like I'm set.
  3. Haha! Nice job on the extra pickles too!

    CSA's

My girlfriend and I have signed up for a share in a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture - Link) this year for the first time. Anyone else out there take part in this? We went with this one, in Ottawa: Saffire Farms $375 for about 19 weeks of fresh local organic produce, starting mid-June. The only downside I'm seeing so far is that we have to bike out to Parkdale Market every Thursday to pick up. Really looking forward to this though.
  5. Here's a fiddlehead salad recipe: http://www.norcliff.com/english/recipes/springtime_salad.html I love fiddleheads! I like to just steam 'em and then just toss with some lemon and butter.
  6. Definitely going to hit up Stoneface Dolly's the next time someone is visiting us who has a car and will drive us there.. Or when Colleen gets herself a bike which should be soon. Thanks for the dim sum recommendation too Bouche, duly noted.
  7. We went to Jak's, the verdict is it was delicious! No wait, not super busy, we got a beauty table out on the patio. I had the standard eggs benny and the hollandaise sauce was fresh, homemade, poached eggs done perfectly, nice thick slice of ham on there too. Good homefries - straight up diced potatoes (not from frozen), deep fried, kind of sweet tasting. Good side salad with balsamic vinagrette. Kick ass delicious locally made hot sauce on the table to accompany. Cost $13 with coffee. TWO THUMBS UP! Thanks Meggo!
  8. Yeah I skipped it too.. Super long lineup. Damn.
  9. The day is here! I'm going right after breakfast.
  10. Thanks! Add my thread to the pile with the same topic, haha. I'll let y'all know wheres we end up going.
  11. Recommend to me some good breakfast spots! Especially beyond the greasy spoons would be appreciated. Where are those hidden gems? I'd love a good breakfast, something fresh tasting with a little TLC put into it. I'm hungrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
  12. Hmm, thanks for that info Jakis! I probably would've missed the show otherwise.
  13. Anyone going? Anyone seem them on this current tour? Xpress says "8pm". I assume that means doors at 8pm?
  14. Can I have yours then?
  15. I am so ready for this.
  16. She may be up for ass grabbin, but from C-Towns??? come on..
  17. Yeah, not the craziest line-up for me, at first glance, but still solid and there are tons of acts on there that I'm completely unfamiliar with. Groupo Fantasmo is a surprise - if this is the band I saw at Bonnaroo last year then I think they'll be great at Hillside. Big latin dance band. As Tonin said though, the roster of artists is only one part of what makes Hillside so special. Where are you getting the word on Wolfe, AD?? Got anything else?
  18. A friend of mine needs a ticket and I'd told her I'd put up an ad on here for her. Lawn would do. If anyone can help her out, please contact her by email: Andrea Email: agro.andrea24 [AT] gmail.com Merci! KO

  21. The Hip Sam Roberts Band The Spades Arkells All-day outdoor show for only $50! Who's going to this one? It looks too ideal to pass up. Also was wondering if anyone had some suggestions re: camping in the area.

    Gillian Welch

I know Starhead speaks fondly about the show she and Bright Eyes played together at Massey Hall a few years ago. Just seems like such a shame that such a great musician isn't seeing as much output as she once did. Click HERE to a comp of Neil cover tunes including a "Helpless" duet by Gillian Welch and Ryan Adams.

    Gillian Welch

I've been popping in at Gillian Welch's website every few months now for the past 2 years or so and it seems like she never has much on the go. A show here and a show there, that's about it for this Summer. Anyone know what she's up to, any future plans? I'd love to see her live one of these days, she's an amazing musician. http://www.gillianwelch.com/
