  1. were on fire! I haven't seen 'em play in a good 7 months and they did not let me down. The place was quite full last night. Walked in towards the the end of set one and caught a few songs with special guest Madagascar Slim! I believe the Sisters are his band for a show at Trane Studios this Friday in Toronto. It was really cool to see Kevin Breit play in a West African style; something I've never seen him do before. Him and Slim were trading steamy licks for an extended period. Second set was just the Sisters and they blew my mind!!! I almost forgot. Without a doubt, STILL Toronto's best kept secret. Cover is now $10 but worth every penny. Kevin seems to be dabbling into the effects more these days then I remember him doing before. They did a fun song called 'Go Fuck Yourself', I enjoyed watching some of the quite senior aged Monday night regulars get into it. They did NIN's 'Hurt' with Gary (drums) on vocals which turned into something quite moving at the end. At the end of 'Helpless' they went into this cool improvisation that was quite scarey and evil, the only comparison that comes to mind is the menacing, evil jam that Phish made during the Big Cypress Mikes Song. That's about it!
  2. I've got some! - swimming in meech lake - going to that wicked spa over in quebec (i forget the name)
  3. Thanks! I'll check it out some time. And all the other stuff on this list. Except the cats at Parliament Hill.
  4. Is this every week? What's the dealy?
  5. Is it a go? I thought this idea was canned. I hope its a go though!
  6. Such a great looking festival! This one looks like fun as well: The Great Canadian Tune Luminato attempts to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Guitar Ensemble as Yonge-Dundas Square hosts a jam session with guitarists playing ten of the greatest Canadian tunes. The current record is held by Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany where 1,802 guitarists assembled to perform Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water.†In the weeks leading up to the Festival, audiences are asked to log on to luminato.com to place their votes for The Great Canadian Tune. The Great Canadian Tune is presented by OLG. Saturday, June 6 at Yonge-Dundas Square FREE I'm going to vote for 'Helpless'.. Great Canadian tune and only 3 simple chords, I think 2,000 guitarists could strum along together no problem.
  7. I haven't investigated too much but where did this festival come from? The Neil Young tribute is a part of it.. And then I just found these listings on Kevin Breit's myspace, and I JEOMK'd: 06-06-2009 at Luminato 2009 The Traveling Blues Metro Hall Square John and Wellington, Toronto, Ontario Cost: Free The Traveling Blues showcases the rich history and compelling sound of Blues music from the dusty streets of Africa to the deep heart of the American South. 8. Haha, thanks dudes! Snarf, I am crushed that you won't be here no mo'. I may be in town for a few days next weekend helping to move in, then back to the Hammer, then back again right around April 2. Sounds good Sean, count me in at about... 85% for now. Oh I found out its on Cooper between Bank & Elgin, NOT east of Elgin like I thought before. I'm getting the feeling I'm quite ideally located!
  9. Skip it and head over to the Halifax music party at the Rivoli!
  10. AND Arkells AND Spades! Looks like fun.
  11. I think its between Bank & Elgin.. Actually I think it might be just east of Elgin (though not sure because Google Maps doesn't display a compass). Good area? April 4th.. Perfect! Lauzon rocks!
  12. It's looking like April 2nd or 3rd will be my official landing date. Mark your calendars! Wish I could've been up there for the Spades on St. Patty's but alas. Booche, I think we only really met once, at CTMF one year, late at night... Looking forward to a more coherent meeting though (leading to less coherence over several hours).
  13. subtitle: Or trying to.. Yup that's right! I got back from Uganda about a month ago, as did my girlfriend from Ghana. She was offered a great job with the organization that sent her to Ghana (Canadian Cooperative Association) and after a few days of talking and decision making, she took the gig and I'm trying my best to make it in the Capital. She just found us an apartment on Cooper St. in Centre Town. Thanks to everyone for giving apartment finding tips in that other thread. I'm excited to join all youz up there! I haven't explored Ottawa a whole save for a few days here and there so I'm looking forward to it. I NEED SHOW-GOING BUDDIES! My lady friend is into it, but not to the same degree. PS - I'm also looking for a job. I have some cool ideas for a new shawarma place called Shawarma Dance but I'm open to other options too.
  14. I was about to post a picture of Teenage Head's Frankie Venom, then a Google search revealed that he actually died in October 2008. http://www.eyeweekly.com/blog/post/42383 51 years old. I saw TH at a Grey Cup party in December 2007 and he definitely was struggling onstage.
  15. Nice! I eagerly await April 16th public on sale date. Not missing this show!
  16. Nice! Thanks for the heads up. I still haven't even heard the Radiodread one, but Dub Side of the Moon is great.

  20. Hey Sean, thanks, maybe we can work something out so I could hop a lift with ya on the way back up.. I'll be in touch.
  21. For that lineup, playing that music, sounds like a bargain to me! I imagine Kevin Breit will play as well.
  22. Holy jesus!! Is this for real? No way I'm missing this.
  23. Hello all! I'm on the lookout for a ride for my lady friend, Ottawa-Toronto on Friday, Toronto-Ottawa on Sunday, or some combination. Alternately, anyone know of a decent Ottawa based rideshare board?
