  1. Awesome Phorbs! I suppose Kampala is a bit of a hike but if you happen to be heading in that direction, I'd love to have some guests. Are there any music fests happening in November? I'd like to make it to Mali while I'm in "the area" but not sure yet if I'll make it. Looks like I'll be in Zanzibar for XMas though!
  2. I think I'll be there. Permit Collector!
  3. I just noticed that -- pretty damn good looking lineup for Wolfe eh!? I will be around, but don't know if I can pull it off this year unfortunately. You going? I've been listening to The Acorn's Blankets! EP obsessively.
  4. Did anyone see The Acorn? They played on Sat July 6. I've been listening to them a ton lately, wondering what they're like live.
  5. Yup I saw No Country for Old Men.. Liked it, but have to re-see it sometime. PERSEPOLIS is another one I have to see.
  6. I heard about that King of Kong, good call... Will check it out. Here are some others that a friend of mine just recommended to me: -There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day Lewis as a crazy oil driller in the early 1900s mix in some weird evangelical town and you have a wild movie) -The Lives of Others (Germany post WWII paranoia, best screenplay in ages) -Control (Joy Division biopic)
  7. For me to download. I can't think of any! Seen anything good lately?
  8. I'll help you guys (as you helped me for Bonnaroo conflict).. Steely Dan vs. Six Shooters vs. Zappa plays Zappa vs. Richard Thompson -- STEELY DAN Black Crowes Vs. Sean Kuti and Egypt 80! -- SEUN KUTI (last week at Harbourfront was amazing) Taj Mahal vs. The Hip --TAJ!!! Fergie vs. Franti vs. Tokyo Police Club -- TPC Primus vs The Wailers vs Widespread -- PRIMUS. This one was more difficult. The Creaking Tree String Quartet, and Jan Purcell & Pine Road --- CTSQ. That was easy! Any more?
  9. Who was better, Neil or MMJ? (heehe)
  10. Cool! Thanks for sharing the pics.
  11. A trip to the Passport Canada office today found me going for a stroll through Jackson Square, just to see what's left of it. I haven't walked through that mall in years and it actually had more going on than I thought it would, even though its about 80% dollar stores, discount womens' clothing and lottery ticket booths. Also of note, they moved the food court down to the main level. I wandered into the library and walked out with some great stuff.. You can take out 50 items at a time! This was all I could carry though: CDs: - Singing for Life: Songs of Hope, Healing, and HIV/AIDS in Uganda (Smithsonian Folkways) - Ouganda: Aux sources du Nil (1992 Radio France) - Fela Kuti & Afrika 70 - Opposite People - Art of Field Recording: 50 Years of traditional music documented by Art Rosenbaum - Willie P Bennett - Hobo's Taunt - Charles Mingus - Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Minges - Duke Ellington in Hamilton (live at The Forum, 8 Feb 1954) - Bashraf - Taarab Instrumentals from Zanzibar books: Around the World in 57.5 Gigs - Dave Bidini dvd: Beastie Boys - Awesome: I Shot That! (2004 gig at MSG, they distributed 50 cams to fans, then compiled the footage into one concert film) Long live public libraries and Jackson Square!
  12. I wish I could make it.. NOMO were one of my surprise favourites at Bonnaroo this year. Check 'em out!
  13. This was the best show I have seen in ages! Maybe because I wasn't going in with sky high expectations or something, but I was just blown away. It was a 15-person band, with many of the members looking old enough to have been in Fela's band for sure. And I have never seen a man dance like Seun Kuti -- that man has got moves!
  14. Thanks, downloading it now.
  15. On Monday night for the Lee Perry gig, if you got there at 8pm you could've still snagged a great spot. Kenny I saw you but from a distance! I was there with Dave McKenna and co. Great show.
  16. How was this gig? Did anyone make it to the Horseshoe stop on June 26?
  17. lol this is a funny thing to imagine.
  18. So, my parents' damn car wouldn't start!!! Instead I stayed home and watched Family Guy reruns. How did it go?
  19. And have room for one? My friend Natalie is looking for a ride.. Thought I'd check here. If so, PM me! Cheers.
  20. Nice Rev, I can't make it for the Espanola show but I'll definitely head down for Tom Wilson. Looking forward to soaking up some Hamiltonia down at Gage!
  21. Is this a new Phish song that they're playing? I never heard the last Phish album or the last Trey solo album so maybe its from one of those. "When I see, I don't stare" or something like that.
