  2. I love listening to old conservatives rant about how the flag was changed to a "liberal" colour, and how Pearson severed our ties to Great Britain with the flag. Happy birthday to the finest flag on the planet!
  3. For me, in the late 80s, Whitney's music fell into the "music I despise, but can pretend to like if it'll get me laid" category. On the serious side, her death hits home for anyone who has friends or family struggling with addiction.
  4. The food at the party turned out to be lacking. The only home-made items were the wings I brought and the chili prepared by the host. I found the chili to be a timid offering lacking any spiciness. My wings were a big hit. Other offerings were chips and dip, cheese, crackers, pepperoni, and store-bought wings. Bacon was a complete stranger to the festivities. Not even invited! The host redeemed himself by bringing out a huge black forest cake in the 4th quarter. Store-bought of course, but it was damn good!
  5. Turns out I'll be going to a party hosted by friends of a friend, people I don't know at all. The spread could be as simple as a bag of chips with dip made out of onion soup mix, or as elaborate as a stadium made of sandwiches. I just don't know! My contribution will be some wings, using the recipe Ollie posted. Have a great game everyone!
  6. Totally agreed. Booche, you are one hell of a character! That's a great photo with Boss Bettman.
  7. The new album gets a decent review.

    Lard!

    It's still good!
  9. "bacon will be no stranger to the festivities" That's awesome! Chili is going to be in the slow-cooker all day at my place.
  10. Well I'm glad the love-in is over. Let's get back to the staged fights, hits from behind, and concussions.
  11. That's awesome Sloth! I totally remember that Albany overpass. I learned 2 things about Bettman today: 1. He's a Grateful Dead fan 2. He has a radio show
  12. Great pictures Phorbesie! Thanks for sharing.
  13. Can I get the third prize for finding the ticketbastard link?
  14. If that burger's from a priest, I'm going to have to start going to church!
  15. Number of local business to save this weekend: 2 Birdman has quite possibly the best music radio show in the city - every Friday morning on CKCU-FM. Tune in for a taste of the kind of stuff available at his store.
  16. The Sharks looked more like mules last night. Mules of the rented variety.
  17. Social networking is one aspect of promoting your art, but there is no substitute for pounding the pavement, shaking some hands, and getting your work into galleries and art shows. Put together a portfolio of your best work and bring it with you to galleries. Find something unique about your art and play it up. In addition to being a great artist, you must become a great self-promoter. Find out if there are any artist groups or communities in your area, and join. Network with other artists in your area. Many towns, neighborhoods, and cities have annual art shows or "studio tours". Get in on one of those and you've got a good start. One of my best friends was in your shoes about 10 years ago. I worked with him in the beginning to make his website and to research methods of getting into galleries and art shows. He started selling his own paintings that he did as a hobby for a few extra bucks. His art has branched totally different medium and his work regularly fetches 4 figures (not bad for an artist who is still alive). His development from a shy hobbyist to an artist/salesman was absolutely necessary for his art to be seen. I wouldn't rule out selling paintings on craigslist or kijiji to get some money in the short term.
  18. My wife found a large canvas painting in the garbage of the office building where she used to work. Brought it home, took a picture of it, and slapped it up on kijiji.ca with a firm price of $100. It sold within a couple of weeks. Now that's business acumen!
  19. Prediction: Aubrey's will be out of business on May 1st.
  20. They're open again. I had to find that out by calling them. They completely ignored my e-mail sent December 16th. After reading this page on their website, I plan to redeem my Aubrey's coupons as quickly as possible. It doesn't sound like they'll be around much longer.
  21. We're in. See you there! We went for the medium price range and got seats in the first row of the upper level, which is pretty decent.
  22. The trade is definitely the subject du jour amongst the hockey fans in the office this morning. Do you guys think Cammalleri said what he said in the hopes that he'd get traded immediately?
  23. The real test will be Thursday night when the face the mighty Rangers. Go Sens!
