Freak By Night

My trip was short.
I left Ottawa early Friday morning and made it to the hotel in Jersey City by 4:20 pm a quick shower then I was on my way by the PATH train to the 33rd street station, right near Madison Square Garden. Met some peeps at a nearby pub, then it was off to the show at MSG.
Phish killed it! What a great show with many musical peaks. I finally had a good seat for a show at MSG and I really enjoyed it. Musical highlights for me were "Halfway to the Moon", "Slave", "Suzy Greenberg" and "Tweezer". No reprise though! Maybe that will come later during this residency in New York. They also nailed a cover of Bowie's "Moonage Daydream" and the encore of Zep's "Good Times Bad Times".
In all, I thought the concert was excellent. I met some really good people at the show. New York is a lot of fun.
Afterwards it was a walk up to Times Square to catch moe. in a sold out late performance. As you've probably heard, Rob will be undergoing cancer treatment and they had to cut the summer tour short. This was one of the few dates they kept. The outpouring of love and support for Rob was great. There were several huge cards to sign at the merch table. The show was a lot of fun, I was dancing at the front to start but fatigue overcame me after a short while, I moved to the back where there were plenty of free seats in this very nice theater. I remained there for the rest of the show, which finally ended at about 3:30. The band got into some serious weird jams but finished with a stellar Rebubula and a touching cover of "Halleluja". It was a long day and I was very tired when I got back to the hotel just before 5 am, but I'm glad I caught moe. before their forthcoming hiatus.
I'm seriously thinking of returning for the final weekend of these baker's dozen shows, the first weekend in August. Gotta scrape up some $$ for tix and accommodations.
 
 

Caught my first RHCP show last night here in the Hammer.
Wow. What an amazing show!
Great energy. Their sound and playing is top notch.
Not sure if anyone is catching tonights show in Ottawa, but if you are, bring your dancin' shoes
They didn't play a long show per say, less than 2 hours start to end, but it was packed with energy!!

Some of my finest concert memories with Soundgarden:
At the Spectrum in Montreal in 1991, with Monster Magnet opening.
Lollapalooza '92 with Pearl Jam, Ministry, and RHCP.
The epic CNE show with Neil, PJ, and Blues Traveler.
Lollapalooza '96 with Metallica and the Ramones.
And also that awesome show in the summer of '94 at "The Bob" in Hull.

I was there too, not for the March 20th show but for the March 21st show. It was my very first Dead show. I managed to see several more before Jerry passed a few years later.
Bruce Hornsby was definitely part of the proceedings that weekend in Hamilton.

Really going out on a limb here, so don't get your hopes up, but I think there's a chance Blue Rodeo will make a rare appearance at the Bluefest.

Happy Day! A tour like this only happens once in a lifetime. I imagine it would be quite extensive, it's a big country. Which cities will they hit?
I would definitely stay up late to buy a ticket.

That might just have been the most exciting, and the coldest, sporting event I have ever attended!

My former father-in-law attended many a hab game in the '50s and he told me that's what the "Frenchmen" (his word, not mine) would say whenever the puck was on Dickie Moore's stick.
 
When watching games on television with me 45 years later, he would shout "shoot da puck Dickie" at the television several times over the course of the game, even if the habs weren't playing.

Bouche had me fooled at the Carleton Tavern on Friday night. I had been a long time since I had seen him so we were catching up.
 
Me: "I'm quite impressed with the lineup for City folk festival"
 
Him: "Really? I thought it sucked" (accompanied by a convincing scowl)
 
Me (thinking has it really been that long since I've seen him?) "Why, who would you rather see?"
 
Him: "That DJ Zed who played at the bluesfest"
 
anyway he had me fooled for a minute, I really thought he was serious. Good times bouche!

Clearly I'm referring to the Quebec Summer Music Festival and not the Ottawa Bluesfest.

Wow.  $81.33 per ticket for an eleven-day festival, taxes/fees/shipping included.
 
And hands down the most accurate, efficient, and non-frustrating online ticketing system ever.  Like, ever.  Leaps and bounds better than anything else.
 
The site had a countdown to onsale.  When onsale happened you were randomly given a place in line.  The page told you your place, told you how long your wait was, kept a descending tally of how many orders remained ahead of you, had an email notification option to let you know when your turn came up, told you you'd have ten minutes to fill the order when your turn came and you could leave the page without leaving your place in line.

I went to Kingston on Friday for the Barr Brothers show.
 
Nice little theater, excellent show of course!

I predict it will be the fest bestival ever!
