  1. Well the dvd player will spit out a digital dts stream but the receiver needs to be able to decode it... I think I found a workaround though. The problem is I gave my dts-capable receiver away when I inherited a slightly older (but vastly superior) yamaha receiver which unfortunately lacks dts support.
  2. Here's a question... is there a way to convert dts encoded data to ac-3 encoding? I suppose DTS is the norm for these quad rips because the compression quality is better for music than ac-3? The reason I ask is that my current receiver only understands pcm and ac-3, and my dvd player doesn't have a built-in decoder. I suppose the computer can do the DTS decoding work though so maybe it's a non-issue
  3. Kev, what quad mixes do you have? I was just coming in here to offer up a dark side quad for testing purposes... but you probably already have that...
  4. What's call bursting? Does anyone here have experience with primus? I'm thinking of changing over to their flat rate $70 plan for unlimited phone/internet
  5. You can get a flac plugin for nero which will let you burn flac files to an audio cd. I believe it also supports reading tags, but you'd have to give it a try. Plugin should be linked from the FLAC homepage, getting Nero is up to you though ;-)
  6. Agreed... it's one of the worst venues in Toronto. The entire door system where they shake you down like a bunch of criminals always sets the stage for a night of horrible venue-related experiences. I feel bad for bands who play there since the audience experience is tainted from the get-go. Also, why do they always have to pack that place to the point where you can't move (nor see a damned thing)? I never have that problem at Lee's (although it's worse now that they changed the bar setup because there's no "breathing room" behind the water station anymore). And another thing... why can't I get no TANG 'round here?
  7. These guys are f'n good. If I wasn't having family dinner on Friday I'd go to this as a prequel to the PJC gig.
  8. check torrentspy (dot com) or mininova (dot org) ... of course you are responsible for having your own valid install key :-)
  9. Ketchikan is amazing. I assume Sitka is cool too. Sounds fun...
  10. I lost two hats in Dawson City last summer. One straw hat and one cap that says "Buffalo Airways". Actually the cap was pretty much stolen from my head. If you see them please let me know.
  11. I was under the impression that there were often full-band jams going on there and multi-attendee impromptu collaborations. But i could be wrong since, as mentioned, I have not actually been :-p
  12. Open stage every Wednesday at PJC (www.pepperjackcafe.com) and I have heard it's quite a good time, though my pansy ass whiny self hasn't made it to one yet due to ridiculous excuses such as "work".

  15. I'm not surprised that this happened. The Casbah seems to suffer from chronic problems with disseminating information. Prices are virtually NEVER listed on show posters, and there is no other official communication channel to turn to. SCM listed wassabi as $10, however as we discovered when we arrived, it was actually $10adv/$12door. The casbah website is nothing more than a barely legible low-res image of the pricing-free concert poster, so there's no help there. Message board posts are usually more accurate, but having to visit random message boards for this kind of information is a real round about way of doing things. Even calling the club the day of the show is unreliable as the bar staff does not always know. On top of that, accepting incoming phone calls for this kind of information is horribly inefficient for everyone involved! I have no problem paying what a show is worth, however it makes planning a bit difficult when you show up and the price is a total surprise. Additionally, I can understand the occasional timing issue where the price may not be set out in time for the poster printing, however that is where a website would clear things up. The fact that the price is never available leaves a nasty taste of deceit in one's mouth. Is the lack of pricing information an underhanded way of being able to charge "whatever we feel like"? I truly hope not, but it is easy to interpret it that way when the pricing inconsistency is so utterly consistent! So.. how about turning the casbah website into a simple blog where this info could be posted by management in a matter of a few clicks? It's not the ideal solution, but it's absurdly easy to set up, and even easier to maintain (my grade-school siblings can do it).
  16. great show. casbah ran out of steamwhistle before you guys even went on but the music was f'n great. the cd also sounds awesome...
  17. you clearly didn't watch the maggot video. those maggots were like having 3 million roommates move in overnight.
  18. One of my roommates backed his car into our front door. Then did it again to the next house he moved into. Another dropped his car on his leg (luckily escaping injury somehow) when he was trying to fix his own brakes. Of course there's always the maggot/squirrel escapade:
  19. Start of visible eclipse: 4:30pm Start of totality: 5:44pm Moonrise: 6:06pm Full Moon: 6:18pm Mid totality: 6:21pm Civil twilight: 6:37pm End of totality: 6:58pm Nautical twilight: 7:10pm Astronomical twilight: 7:43pm End of visible eclipse: 8:12pm The moon is going to be really close to the east horizon for this. It will just be rising while the eclipse is underway, but if it's clear, we should be able to see the moon fully rise before the total eclipse is over. Werewolf party anyone? ps: neenerneet
  20. I think a better Q is: Who doesn't!? (A: idiots) ;-)
  21. In Hamilton we get it for $65! And if you don't have a monthly pass, you can use your $1.70 fare to travel on unlimited routes in any direction for two hours - including round trips and stopovers. ;-)
  22. I can't wait for the CD release show. Go spades go!
