  1. So are seatbelts for people expecting a car crash? Whether or not your wear a helmet is your own business (and like I said, I haven't yet started wearing one), but it would be foolish to expect to be able to avoid all crashes on the hill and always know when you're likely to have one. There are just too many factors at play aside from the individual skier/rider.
  2. I still don't wear a helmet when I ski. To be honest, until recently it just hadn't occurred to me despite seeing other people wear them. As I've seen them become more common, though, I've been thinking more and more about it. I'm sure I'll take the plunge this season or next.
  3. This is indeed awesome news. As I've said in every other Rothbury thread on here, this festival went above and beyond and was an incredible event. I really hope to make it back, even if that means once again traveling from the West Coast for it.
  4. Thanks, Bouche. It never ceases to annoy me, seeing that black screen with "We're sorry, this content is not available in Canada."
  5. Thanks, AD I may check that out. I also might just try and unload it outside the venue. Vinyl Cafe shakedown is always a rager, brah. The ticket is now reduced to clear.
  6. Word. My family has one (heady?) extra for A Vinyl Cafe Christmas tonight at 8:00 at the NAC. PM me if you're interested and maybe we can make a deal. Cool.
  7. Anyone hitting Souljazz at Babylon? What sort of crowds have these guys been drawing lately? I'm back in town for Christmas and am trying to sell my amigos on the show, but don't know that any of us want to be fighting crowds tonight. If I do make it I hope to see some of you there. Word.
  8. I'm glad you stopped before "Bump yon virgin."
  9. Awesome festival. The location was great, for starters. As opposed to the usual "put 'em in a field and let 'em fight it out," there was a lot of shade to be found and comfortable places to chill out. The "Sherwood Forest" was a nice mellow spot during the day and was a trippy mind-fuck at night, with light shows being projected onto the trees. Also, the weather that time of year is great: warm summer days but cool crisp nights. The stages were all in relatively close proximity to each other, so moving from show-to-show was relatively easy. What else...the "scene" was very friendly and not nearly as sketchy as one might expect from that type of festival, though I fear that might change as word gets out about it. Oh, and traffic was a breeze with next-to-no lineups going in or out. As far as big festivals go, this one seemed to have a really personal touch and still felt intimate. The combination of location, lineup and weather made it a top-shelf festival its first go-round, and I really hope that it's something that continues. Hope this helps. -Hart
  10. Phish at Rothbury (or the Rothbury site) would be a dream. Rothbury last year was like Bonnaroo without any of the things that, for me, detract from it. It had fewer people, less heat and a cleaner/less sketchy scene. I realize this is a long-shot and there is talk of Rothbury being moved next year, but I would plan my summer around Phish at Rothbury, whereas Phish at Bonnaroo is more of an "it would be nice to swing it" situation.
  11. Unreal man. I would say you were lucky, but I know that you've paid some serious dues and have earned a moment like this. Good on 'ya.
  12. 351. Songs you've heard in Martin Scorsese films (names the movie as well) 1. The Rolling Stones - Monkey Man (Goodfellas) 2. The Band - The Weight (The Last Waltz) 3. Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang (King of Comedy) 4. Allman Brothers Band - One Way Out (The Departed) 5. The Ronettes - Be My Baby (Mean Streets) 6. Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter (Casino) 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  13. I wish I had taken some backroads. The detour was ridiculous. always go through richmond on days like today. much faster... after getting out of that detour... it only took me a half hour to get into town. Not to mention much bakery-er.
  14. Stop panicking, Basher. You don't even live in Ottawa.
  15. OK... First I'll access the secret military spy satelite that is in geosynchronous orbit over the midwest. Then I'll ID the limo by the vanity plate "MR. BIGGG" and get his approximate position. Then I'll reposition the transmission dish on the remote truck to 17.32 degrees east, hit WESTAR 4 over the Atlantic, bounce the signal back into the aerosphere up to COMSAT 6, beam it back to SATCOM 2 transmitter number 137 and down on the dish on the back of Mr. Big's limo... It's almost too easy.
  16. Happy Birthday, Meggo! Hope you have a great day and an even better year.
  17. Lame. A swing and a miss at the ol' "look how liberal we are" game. That said, I found it strange when I was in undergrad that one day a year students all came together to pretend to care passionnately about a disease few of us knew anything about and had any experience with, only to all but forget about it the next day. Cystic fibrosis is an awful disease, and I know that money raised honestly for a very deserving cause is not really a bad thing. I just thought it odd that we (note I'm including myself here) turned the misfortune of others into a day-long pep rally. Then we drank. Hopefully the Shinerama energy can still be harnessed and pointed at another worthy cause.
  18. Watch your step, Bobby.
  19. I don't think we should be too quick to jump to conclusions about what name they will be using based on this third party's website. I've even been at shows they've played post-2000 where they've been referred to as "The Grateful Dead" from the stage. I think that people who don't know just don't understand the distinction.
  20. Yeah, what a loser. :::Puts on Phil and Friends 10/20/07 and gives ironic high-five to Hux:::
