  2. I understand that ticketing for a large-scale arena show is a big undertaking, logistically. I also understand that if fans wouldn't pay scalpers for tickets, there would be no more scalpers. That said, I am disappointed that Phish doesn't seem to care as much as they should about scalping. They do the lottery, which is a nice gesture and levels the playing field to an extent, but I have a hard time believing that the band does everything in its power to curb the secondary market. This is part of why I was hoping the first show(s) back would be at a bigger venue. Not a stadium, but at least a decent sized arena, thus increasing supply by a few thousand and easing the squeeze a little bit. As a bit of an aside: ticket scalping, especially regulated scalping like seen on StubHub and TicketsNow makes me angry. Having said that, I would rather our governments spend their time frying bigger fish. Exorbitant ticket prices to Hampton are a pain in the ass, but I would rather those in our legislative houses fix health care before making sure I can get my heady extra.
  3. Agreed. Even if you don't have tickets, Yawkey Way and the area around Fenway is carnavalesque when there's a game happening, and you're lucky to be heading to town when the playoffs are on. If you are at all a sports fan, I would recommend it. As for the North End, Little Italy was a real highlight for my girlfriend and I the last time we were there. Tons of high quality dinner places, with wicked good dessert shops around, too. At one point we were dining by a window on a cobblestone side-street and both remarked that we thought we were in a movie.
  4. Ron Goldman's father has said that he would excuse OJ from having to pay a dime if he would admit guilt. Mr. Simpson hasn't been especially receptive to this idea.
  5. Yeah, I'm not going to worry about a room until after the initial excitement wears off a little. Booking a room is generally a risk-free undertaking, so there will be a ton of rooms opening up as people who booked rooms out of excitement realize they can't make it. To summarize: what Basher said.
  6. This thought crossed my mind as well, but on what will be an incredibly exciting night, I think it would be in everybody's best interest to keep the Coventry allusions to a minimum.
  7. I said relatively small. As MoMack said, it's notably smaller than any of the other big indoor venues that they'd played in the years leading up to the "break up." I would just have thought that they would want to maximize the number of people who could get in (without playing a stadium or festival) in order to minimize other issues (scalping, ticketless fans, etc.).
  8. Awesome, awesome news. (Full stop). I do think it's too bad that they are playing a relatively small venue for their first few shows. Knowing how big demand is, and how much of a problem ticketless hordes were towards the end, one would think they would be inclined to play one of the bigger arenas to try and minimize scalping and parking-lot overflow, no? I realize that there would be scalping and overflow no matter where the first show takes place, but Hampton just seems like an odd place for it.

Phantasy Tour has been blowing up today with Hampton rumours, and I think enough people are booking hotel rooms based on that info(?) alone to make a little bit of noise among the hotels close to the Coliseum. I'll be stoked when an announcement does happen, but I do hope that the first shows back are at a bigger venue than Hampton.

  11. Right, which is why I referred to Pearl Jam's tour as near-exhaustive and non-territorial. I give mad props to the White Stripes for taking one on the financial chin and heading North, thus making it a true Canadian tour.

  13. As a matter of fact he didn't. He just reminded us that the booze had to be taken inside and asked us to keep the noise down. Nothing too exciting, although things almost took a turn for the worse when a drunk guy stumbled out of the house and tried to give the other cop a high-five while telling him that his moustache was "fucking awesome."

  15. So I was at an afternoon party here in sleepy Victoria yesterday and things got a little rowdy. Sure enough, the men in blue showed up at around 5:00. The usual routine: they walked up, said hello and asked who was renting the house. My friend Kate is the renter and walked over and introduced herself, saying "Hi, my name's Kate." Rather than put himself up on a pedestal, the cop responded with a smile and a handshake while saying "Hi Kate, my name's Eric." It's a little thing, but I thought that being friendly and using his first name - as opposed to "I'm Constable Jones and we've had a complaint" - was a classy move on the part of the cop, and set the tone for a positive interaction all-around. People are often quick to complain about police officers (myself included) so I thought I'd pass this one along. Reading it back it doesn't seem that significant, but I was really impressed at the time. Peace, Hart
  16. I'm assuming it's in reference to Pearl Jam's near-exhaustive (though non-Territorial) tour of Canada in the Fall of '05. In related news, I was happy to be able to get floor tickets for Dylan in Victoria for a little over eighty bucks each (after bend-you-over charges) once I saw the prices for Neil Young in Vancouver.
  17. There have been a ton of rumours surrounding this reunion, I'll wait to get excited until I hear something from the horse's mouth. Also, I'm almost shocked that the other members would consider touring without Robert Plant. That would have been incredibly lame, in my opinion.

  22. Yeah, he actually opened up the show. It wasn't really an environment conducive to that type of artist, though, so I couldn't really get into him. I'm looking forward to checking his stuff out online.
