  1. if u dig 70's Bowie, definitely start with his debut "Here Come the Warm Jets", followed by "ANother Green World" where his ambient sound starts to creep in a bit. If you dig the ambient/instrumentals, you'll feel content with "After the Heat" on repeat.
  2. here's a few things off the top of my head: The French Quarter: history+culture+architecture; nothing else like it in North America; just stroll around and soak it in! FOOD: be sure to try the Gumbo, Jambalaya, shrimp etouffee, Poboy sandwhiches, etc... Restaurants: -Mother's (corner of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas in the Central Business District, close to French Quarter); casual old skool joint; during high tourist season there are line ups out the door of peeps waiting to be seated. -Acme Oyster House (on Iberyville, between Bourbon and Royal); fresh oysters shucked in front of u and served on the half shell; splash it with tabasco sauce and a dash of horseradish and you're good to go! -Cafe Du Monde (Decateur+St Anne); open since 1860, 24 hrs/day; must get the chicory-laced cafe au lait and beignets: puffy pillows of dough which are lightly fried and then doused with powdered sugar!! Bourbon St: - if you prefer your beers cheap and you get a big kick out of drinking out on the street, then hit it up! Worth checking out. Graveyard: -bodies buried above ground in the most elaborate tombstones you'll ever see! many spots to choose from but the closest to the French Quarter is on the corner of Basin+St Louis; Frenchmen St: bohemian part of town where there are several Jazz clubs to pick from
  3. how long you gonna be there for?
  4. LOL how that article referred to her as "LiLo"!
  5. Queen Video (3 locations on Queen+Bloor+College) are just as good in terms of quality+rare dvds! Sure they don't sell a "chucky" doll or "Nightmare on Elm St" lunch boxes, but Queen always gave Suspect a good run, when it came to selection+variety.
  6. There are brutal comments being left by "completist"-type fans on dead.net. I've been listening to complete AUD/SBD shows and Dick's Picks for eons, and to be honest, I really dig these compilations. These days, I prefer to skip directly to the main course...

    iPod Touch

my wife got me the 8gig for x-mas. personally, that's all i need; i like to keep my ipod with a limited amount of albums, because anything more that 8gigs becomes too overwhelming to flip through. otherwise, the applications are handy: Google MAPS!; weather (5 day forecast plus multiple cities); stock prices; email; youtube. I'm not sure you can synch personal organizer or contacts with your mac which seems ridiculous, but I'm sure they'll fix it up iin the time being. but personally, i wish i could just get the iphone.
  8. it doesn't get any better than Crank!! that flick was a rush!
  9. i recall Sir Bono once saying in a MuchMusic interview, "The record business is doing poorly because the RECORDS are BORING" (note: this was the time when U2 released Discotheque, or whatever that album was called, over 10 years ago...)
  10. Awesome bro!! Keep it up and don't look back!
  11. this sounds like a job for Indiana Jones! Or Allan Quatermain! or Ben Gates!
  12. there's a Divided Sky from 6-18-94 UIC Pav, Chicago (great SBD's circulate) that just absolutely melts face!!
  13. on all the shirts it lists Ronnie Wood before Zep, but neither him nor Pete performed (and Foreigner only played one song... can u guess which one!?!?!?)
  14. just got back the show was awesome; setlist was great! No Quarter and Dazed were the shit! but to be brutally honest, the sound was not the greatest; Plant's vocal's weren't crystal clear (there was annoying feedback at times that was going on even during the opening acts; the feedback totally ruined Plant's harmonica solo during Nobody's Fault) and I can't say there was one Page solo that blew my socks off (sonically nor audibly). but overall, I was overjoyed to be there. don't be surprised to find out if there's no tour. merchandise was lame (saved my money, even though shirts sold out); t-shirts had all the opening acts listed (even though ROnnie Wood didn't perform (and what happened to Pete Townsend?!?!). Anyway, it was all about the music (and apparently in tribute of the guy who founded Atlantic Records) and overall it was great!! But not blow your socks off, holy shit I just flew miles and miles and some dude next to me paid over $80k at an auction for a pair of ticks....
  15. got lucky enough to score a spot in a private box at the O2 arena! I'll post a review sometime after the show.
  16. that's absolutely unacceptable! The American public will be outraged... anyone see the new episode of the O.C.? That dude is hot!!
  17. i'm keeping my expectations low for this one
  18. BUTTER TRAY!! i'm buying the book after work! Izzy was the man!!
  19. general review: my wife and I had a great time @ vegoose (we only checked out the 1st day)! I haven't been to others, but the attendance appeared pretty solid to me (if a 10 to 1 normal haircut vs dreadlocks ratio is something to complain about, then so be it and close down the festival). Gogol Bordello kicked things off and rocked in every way! Their unique blend of punk and gypsy punk (with a touch of dub) got the sleepy crowd at 12:45pm jumping! These guys are a blast to see live; highly recommend it!! Afterwards we had time to kill before Public Enemy so my wife and I got hitched again at the festival's on-site Chapel! A Britney Spears impersonator serenaded us with "I'm not a Girl" while the gay black Rabbi officiated the wedding! We couldn't have asked for anything more... Although Public Enenmy and Cypress Hill were simultaneously performing on different stages, I picked PE in a second (never had the chance to see them live, and I've lost count with how many times I saw Cypress back in the early 90's). Public Enemy served it up raw with personal chants of "Fuck" to every high-seated official in the republican gov't. PE dropped old skool jams (ie, Bring da Noise, Brothers Gonna Work it Out, 911 is a Joke, Welcome to the Terrodome); even the new skool stuff sounded bad-ass! And to say the least, Flavor Fav was in full effect! In between songs, you could hear Cypress serving up old skool hits like "Real Estate" and "How I could Just Kill a Man". By the end of PE's set we rushed over to Cypress' stage to catch the last song "Superstar" which incited a nutty beefcake mosh pit. As for other on-site activities, there was a lame erotic haunted house, a sports bar-tent, ferris wheel, and an American Spirits tent giving away free packs of smokes!?!? Next up on the list for us was Iggy Pop and the Stooges (with Mike Watt (from the Minutemen+Firehose) on bass (who was in fine form and delivered some heavy chops!!). Fun House was played in it's entirety and was sick; at moments I felt transported to a dingy bar in Michigan circa 1970!!! Besides Fun House, classic Stooge trax were welcomed with open arms (ie, 1969, I Wanna Be Your Dog). Now the unexpected highlight was stumbling unknowingly into M.I.A.'s celebratory set! I've never heard of her before but I was instantly hooked! She laid down an infectious blend of east-london techno + hip-hop + dub that got most people either grinding or gawking. What made it all the more mesmerizing were the synchronized wacky montage videos screened behind her (imagine the old intro to city tv's The New Music mixed with Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing thrown into a blender with Neneh Cheery's Buffalo Stance and Technotronic's Pump Up the Jam video hosted by Master-T). Then there was Daft Punk... wow! Everything you've heard about their current tour is true. Definitely the sickest light show I've ever seen! So overall Vegoose was a satisfying fun time! If the numbers were too low to keep it going a nother year, then I'm sure something else will come around to satisfy concert goers needs for music and vegas debauchery.
  20. i don't know what's funnier: this douche getting slammed or this douche's name being Johnny Fairplay?!?!?

  22. all i want to know is... how was Ha Ha the Moose!!!??!?!
