  1. i keep hearing it on the radio lately, "made of stone" by spiral beach. it brings out the car dancing big time. anyone else been enjoying this one or have another song that's been grabbing them like crazy lately?
  2. heh, fair enough. i haven't paid 12 bones for anything there, but anyway AD some people drink before they get to the bar so that they aren't too thirsty once there! in fact i do this and it works well. :content:
  3. i also love the mercury lounge. what's not to love about a huge disco ball and a whole bunch of congas??? i mean, really.
  4. alligator pie is awesome! i loved that book as a kid. i thought medicine hat sounded like the craziest name for a city.
  5. i think we talked about this in the pickles thread... but i would also like to say that PB & dill pickles is A+ for me only on toast, though. when i was a kid i used to spread PB on a piece of bologna, roll it up and eat it... i tried it again a few years ago though, and it's lost the magic. made me feel a bit sick actually.

    fish!

what are some of your favourite [and EASY] recipes with fish? preferably without the mercury... i got this from the health canada website RE healthy fatty acids & unhealthy mercury: "Some types of fish have higher levels of these beneficial fatty acids than others. Fish and shellfish that contain higher levels of these fatty acids and are also low in mercury include: anchovy, capelin, char, hake, herring, Atlantic mackerel, mullet, pollock ( Boston bluefish), salmon, smelt, rainbow trout, lake whitefish, blue crab, shrimp, clam, mussel and oyster [fish with higher levels of mercury] These include fresh/frozen tuna, shark, swordfish, marlin, orange roughy and escolar" then there was this info from "perinatology.org": "[Washington state Dept of health] Advises women of childbearing age to: * Limit tuna steaks, halibut, orange roughy to one meal per month * Limit cod, pollock, haddock, tuna (6ounce can) to one meal per week * Limit salmon and shellfish to 2 to 3 meals per week. The Environmental Working Group lists other types of fish that may be contaminated by mercury, as well as by PCBs, include bluefish and striped bass, and freshwater fish (such as salmon, pike, trout, walleye) from contaminated lakes and rivers. " soooo... ideas?
  13. lots of love to you and your friend, karin. *hugs*
  14. hahahah... d. - i like that idea! we could make a whole list of chores for them to do. kitty litter comes first. alison, the official day is december 19th, this is the day that i made the permission forms for. what is le petite mort gallery like? i can put it out there. i should have also mentioned that the students are generally 15 years old, in grade 10. they tend to be a bit wild, but i find that when they're separated from the group they're far more human-like. thanks everyone for your contributions
  15. i currently have two classes who i am doing a "job shadow" activity with. this is the first time i've tried this project and i think it could be really good for them! i was wondering if there is anyone out there with an interesting job [or even not that interesting, it's all relative, right?] who may be willing to let a kid follow them around for a day and ask them some questions. most of my students have already found their placements, but not all. thanks
