  1. sounds like you provided hud with a life of good times. big hugs to you greg.
  2. P.S. i am quite ready for winter to eff - off.
  3. one of the many difficulties plaguing our move this weekend was that our couch does not fit thru our apartment door. luckily, the principal at my school is going to buy it from us to use at the school. yay! now i need to somehow get it from our apartment to the school this week. please fire me a PM if you think you can help! i never want to deal with Uhaul again. and i think d_rawk has scared them off, anyway.
  4. 1. i'm so sorry to hear about your hot tub. it is a lovely hot tub and it shouldn't be facked with. i've had people break into my car and steal shit and it makes me MAD. 2. i want to know what the heck stephen franke is doing in town??
  5. trying to not repeat too much what's already been said - allison i think you make good arguments [as usual ] but i still don't think this is a good idea, for the same reason that i don't think faith-based schooling is a good idea. i have had the opportunity to teach in two schools. one school is extremely multi-cultural, and one is extremely white. i have found that instances of racism and ignorance in the multicultural school occur far less often [at least in my eyes] than at the mostly-white school. i'm sure it's because at the M-C school all of these kids are exposed to each other so they can see that no "race" is any scarier or nicer than any other. one person can wear a hijab and one not and still be friends. whereas in the mostly-white school, many of these kids do not know kids from other "races", and so misconceptions persist. ya know? i think that incorporating more diverse curriculum is an excellent idea, and in fact many teachers are trying to do this on their own. of course this doesn't mean that, without a doubt, a race-based school will cause any more social meltdown, especially xenophobia, than we already have. but i have a strong feeling that it would.
  6. super fun. must rest for night #2!
  7. i did i did! just for a month, but it was sooo awesome. is your sister's resort called "si como no"? i didn't stay there but one day we pretended that we were, and hung out in the hot tub overlooking the ocean and the swim-up bar.... not too shabby! i mostly lived with a family in quepos, but when my sister came down for the last week we stayed at a place called i believe "verde mar". we got a pretty good deal - i don't remember how much it was, probably along the lines of the $40 a night place mentioned above. it was clean and it had hot water. there were little tiny crabs in the shower and the room [not of the STD variety! ]. also one day a big herd... flock?.. of monkeys came by and that was very entertaining. it was great because it is about a 30-second walk out your door to the *spectacular* beach. i was there in june - hot sunny days and then big thunderstorms! it was hot ALL the time in manuel antonio. it didn't really cool off at night. get ready to sweat like a fat guy. there is a great place on the beach that was called 'mar y sombra', you can sit there and have a few beers and a casado and then walk over to the park! we had the same incident as mentioned above, where when we entered the park there was just a little stream, and when we came out it was waist-deep. i was really nervous about that water and what kind of creepy crawlies might be in it but i didn't develop any weird health problem. there is a great spot in quepos - just one evening you should go to "hotel kamuk" - it is a best western, which i know probably sounds terrible, but they have this little balcony where you can sit and drink and watch the most amazing sunsets on the ocean while taking in the town of quepos... highly recommended. also if you are trying to catch a bus just wave at them... there is a main bus stop in quepos but when you're out in M.A. you just flag them down. and whistle when you want them to stop. oh and you can drink on the bus if it's in a cup! ahhh good times!! i need to get back there. meggo is jealous.
  8. oops! i'm going to hurry and delete that thread.
  9. thanks everybody!! we landed a sweet place in hintonburg, right around the corner from sunshine & gateaux. it has a bright yellow door. stay tuned for moving-help groveling...
  10. i will be enlisting your help again jodes!
  11. any thoughts on lowertown? close to the bridge to vanier [eek!]?
  12. ditto! today was way less terrible than i imagined it might be.
  13. i've been living in centretown for 3.5 years, and while there are LOTS of things i love about this 'hood, it is costing me too much money in car repairs b/c it keeps getting vandalized/broken into [3x since i've lived here]. last year's first murder was almost on our front lawn and a girl got robbed tonight just steps away. that coulda been me! [i know, that's kind of selfish.] so anyway, we're thinkin' we need to find a new place to live in. i know the glebe area is probably pretty safe, but what about places like hintonburg, sandy hill, lowertown...? anyone care to weigh in on pros/cons of different spots? [PS east end need not apply, i work there and i don't want to live there!]

    Evita!!!!

yeah i kind of wanted to cry during this movie. i had to stop playing this in my spanish classes b/c it was driving me nuts. there is actually no talking in the WHOLE movie. just singing! and antonio banderas singing! lordy. to each their own, eh!
  15. dear jodes: sorry you're feeling icky! hopefully the neo and the pho and lots of sleep will have you feeling good soon. PS please don't take a picture if your brain comes out. luv you!
  16. thanks for the tip todd! we thought about it, but already had our GD tix so we stuck with that plan. and i'm glad we went! what a GREAT show. highlights were covers of 'under pressure' and 'reelin' in the years'. and we made it just in time for '1985' which is always a favourite! we didn't catch the whole show, i'd be really interested to see what else they had up their sleeve. also nice to see mr. zero! the phil collins shirt was a giveaway. i have to say that the energy that this band exudes is unmatched by most. money well spent!!
  17. happy 40th birthday todd!!! still in chatham so i won't be able to make it, but i know y'all will have a blast! cheers
  18. well, far as i know, it's just d_rawk and myself coming from Otown [we are *technically* coming from chatham]. and thanks for the offer , hopefully we won't have too much trubba!
  19. hiya! i ended up doing that, but my problem was how i was going to actually get the tickets in my hands, because the only option was to pick them up at an outlet [and there is no outlet here]. we're going to pick them up at sunrise in london on the way to TO.
  20. where is this show? we still don't have NYE plans Edit: nm! lee's palace it is. and, as it turns out, there is no will-call and no ticketmaster outlet in chatham. so it looks like we're fucked!
  21. just when you thought things couldn't get crazier...
