  1. Well as with most "punishment for the crime" I would have to think that the worst punishment would be a life sentence for the worst-case scenario. Definitely wouldn't be a simple "guilty, off to jail for life"... Whether or not the offender is aware that they could be charged with a life sentence and thus giving pause for thought is hard to say... Yes, totally agree that parents have to play the first role in raising a child and having avenues available besides financial support... My main point was that I was glad that finally a party has recognized the need to overhaul the YOA...this conversation is not new or fresh, especially for those living in cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc.
  2. Respectfully, we all are entitled to our opinions...I just can't ignore the situation anymore. Just this week a 16 year old causes a school to be put through an ordeal...granted all he had was a pellet gun but at the time it was seen as a gun... I have friends who work on several different police forces and ALL are well-balanced individuals (a couple are even Deadheads!) and all have said that the kids causing trouble and violence fully know what they are doing and that they will receive little more than a slap on the wrist but what it does for them in the eyes of their peers is raise them to a certain status of "badness/don't fug with me"... The Young Offenders Act is a joke. I'm not saying that a 14 year old should be given a life sentence but the system has to be changed as it was put in place in 1984 and Canada as well as the world has gone through massive changes in the past 25 years. The YOA needs a massive overhauling. Kids need to have things available to them. Programs such as sports, arts, recreation to occupy them and give them direction. But those are always the first things to get cut in budgets. Nothing new there.
  3. It's hard for me to believe as for years I've been saying that the "Young Offenders Act" is a fugging joke and youth violence punishment has to be overhauled and it turns out to be Harper who's finally addressing this topic. I've NEVER been a fan of the Conservatives but KUDOS for them for at least having the balls to say enough is enough...12 & 13 year old kids kicking a student repeatedly so that student could not attend classes for days; kids with guns killing kids; innocent kids being caught in the crossfire... There is no easy fix or solution to this rapidly growing epidemic but it can no longer be ignored in our "True North Strong & Free"...
  4. HA! Nice one, though does watching a baseball game help one quite smoking or cause suicidal thoughts?
  5. No, this is definitely "Chantix"...maybe some new, twisted cousin of Champix...but still crazy that the big p-companies can get away with releasing their toxins on the masses... Chantix Though the "vivid, unusual, or strange dreams" side-effect sounds cool...
  6. The latest drug "Chantix" designed to help smokers quit and if you haven't seen the add, don't even think about trying this one out...the ramble of "if you experience..." even states that if suicidal thoughts or extreme depression occur, stop taking the pill and see your doctor...that's just one of the many possible lovely side-effects... ARE YOU FUGGING KIDDING ME??? How does this get on the shelves???...well, we all know the answer to that...the pharmaceutical companies have deep pockets that politicians have their hands dug in... SUICIDAL THOUGHTS?!?! Holy crap I'm glad I don't smoke...
  7. I'm not sure how "he" can cut public funding as if it's funds from the public, he has no say as how those funds are used. Cutting government funding for library internet usage doesn't make any sense either as it's impeding access to knowledge...unless that's his master plan; to "dumb down" Canadians so we resemble the average Republican... The so-called "plans" that Harper, Dion & Layton have been introducing are laughable but it's what all parties do, especially when a quick election is called...promise everything and when elected blame the previous government for leaving empty coffers... Do we want another minority? Hell no as our country will be worse off but what will that do to the average Canadian when casting their vote?...vote conservative so there'll be a majority and we won't have to be bombarded with campaign BS in another few years?...a strong possibility...is Dion the guy for Canada?...just my opinion but no...he does not come across as a leader but that's part of his current strategy; to surround himself with his staff for strength... The worst is being subjected to the smear campaigns and advertisement as they're below most voters who have an idea of the political machine...even worse when you have to actually record and mix these ads...just bite your tongue for eight hours and try not to vomit on the console or turn off the air circulation in the vocal booth...
  8. Yep, heard but not until the next morning as by the time I arrived home everyone was asleep... It's my turn to come to P'bro now so if you can put Dez down for a few hours we can all hang out and have some fun
  9. With both our snap election in October and the upcoming election across the border, I try not to think of dark days that may lie ahead for both countries... And just to add a little voodoo & speculation is it just coincidence that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of of one time and transitioning into the next age at the end of the first term of whoever is in power in the States... I share a similar view with Yours Truly when it comes to casting my vote...vote for the person, not the party as most governments have a degree of corruption that is in place...find the person that is least likely to succumb to corruption and try to change the system from the inside as unbelievable as that may seem or sound...
  10. In my opinion Fox News is the last place to go for decent news coverage but the majority of Americans do get their news from Fox/CNN and the likes...scary but undeniably true... Nice post of the article d_jango
  11. Must've been a great night of music...my cousin came down from P'bro for it and was one of the people who ended up on stage dancing with the band...unfortunately our band was playing last night so I missed out on what I'm sure was a sweet evening of music...did they play When The Circus Comes To Town?
  12. Fantastic!!! Here's what Heather Mallick wrote: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/09/05/f-vp-mallick.html And here's the response from Fox http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/20956228/white_trash_vote.htm?pageid=37001
  13. Whoever is off to see Los Lobos are in for a real treat...these guys are fan-frickin-tastic!!! My cousin is coming down for this one but unfortunately I'll be jammin' with the band at The Blue Goose on Friday...but for those of you at Massey, let 'er rip!!!
  14. How I wish you were here but shine on you crazy diamond
  15. I highly recommend catching Los Lobos if you can. They are a phenomenal band and put on a great live show. Last time I caught them in Toronto they played their own material plus covered Neil's Cinnamon Girl & a great version of Bertha...

  20. Fug your summer solstice...the only time I've seen blue sky & sun is when I ride into work but then in roll the clouds...it's been pissing rain for almost two months in this city and if it doesn't warm up soon we'll be looking at fall with winter fast approaching... There has to be a game or betting pool on the weather forecasts as it changes almost hourly on the dashboard...F12 this muthafugga!!!
  21. Happy B-Day Youlia...hope it's mega-awesome!
  22. The roads less traveled are usually the ones with the greatest adventures. Enjoy Mexico and congrats!
