  1. Worth the trip for food lovers like you & Ms.Hux and if you work it around a Monday, there's always some Sisters, even though they're not greek...
  2. Holy Fack, I was wunderin' what had happened to you...good to see you're still alive 'n kickin' it bluegrass-style... Break a leg but not any strings at DeKcuF!
  3. Wowzers...if you end up with a doggie bag Abbey is going to be one spoiled pup!
  4. Happy Birthday Mike!!! Hope you and Sharon are kicking back and having a great day!
  5. This was a very sad thing to read...watching everything go up in flames must've been hard to say the very least...even though they are just "posessions", they helped create music and provide inspiration and positive vibrations... Glad to hear no one was hurt and try to find a positive groove at Evolve!
  6. Happy Birthday from Smoggy Hogtown!
  7. Oh yeah, the movie was not one of Crowe's finest...bottom of the list...but the soundtrack has a great selection of gems... The scene with Free Bird is humorous...the house band rockin' out despite the chaos depicts the joys of playing in a band, cover or otherwise...
  8. I forgot...yes, bouche is a "Techno & Theory Geek"... I'm guessing he's going to start categorizing his iTunes library to create the ultimate jam
  9. Thought I'd share this with any or all of you "theory geeks"... For years I've been playing harmonica along with guitar for songs by Dylan, Neil Young, Blue Rodeo. Recently I've started playing Blues which is a different style of harp playing known as "Crossed Harp" method...very cool and besides playing in a different key, there's more sucking instead of blowing...yep, I'll admit it, I suck... To continue this saga...I recently watched "Elizabethtown", a film by Cameron Crowe who also combines amazing soundtracks with his well-written and directed films...I hear Ryan Adams singing the absolutely stunning and heart wrenching tune "Come Pick Me Up" and hear the harp on it and this is a tune I immediately have to learn... It's in the key of B Flat...so to play it "crossed harp" I have to use an E Flat harp...and during some of my google-research I stumble upon this which I found interesting... E Flat Theory Here's Ryan on Letterman performing this tune...he even dropped the F**K and S**T from the tune but it still shines... Come Pick Me Up Is it proof behind the biggest hits for artists such as Ryan, Crowded House, David Gray and others??? You be the judge...I'll just suck on my E Flat
  10. I guess it depends on the situation but in general I view Toronto as a city that has a much faster pace than other cities. People are rushing to get to work or home to be with family and friends and not get caught up in traffic and any line-up... I laugh constantly at the people with cell phones glued to their ears as it is still my belief that the only people who really need to be attached to their cells are surgeons and high profile stock brokers and investors...when did life get so busy that people have to constantly be calling someone for something trivial...instead, why not take that time to look around at some of the incredible architecture, shop displays and colourful residents of this city...like that's ever going to happen... Last summer when I was home visiting my family in Lunenburg I couldn't get over how quiet and slow the pace of life was...I drove down the coast to record the sounds of waves crashing and as I was grabbing my gear from the car I heard a rustle in the bushes across the road...turned and there was a gigantic buck with a full rack just starin at me while chewing on the foliage...we stared at each other for what seemed like hours and then he grew bored of me and casually walked down the road...
  11. Ahhh, you made the "connection" as Buffett styled himself towards a "Caribbean/Tradewinds" sound from way back during his New Orleans/Key West days...and it's hard to find a "true sailor" that doesn't have the classics such as A1A, Son of a Sailor, Changes In Latitudes, etc... Buffett has shared the stage with Phish, covered their "Gumbo" tune, plays Scarlet Begonias at many of his concerts and covered "Uncle John's Band"...there's a helluva lot more to Jimmy than "Margaritaville" which is not his best tune by any stretch... Glad you enjoyed the post S.
  12. Here's a recent "Time's 10 Questions" with Jimmy Buffett in which he talks about Marley's impact on him, Jerry Garcia & Jack Johnson... 10 Questions for Jimmy And here's the podcast which has more content... 10 Question Podcast
  13. Wish I could've taken this one in but didn't get back into the city until late...M and any of the TD's, please give me a head's up the next time you're playing so I can take in the music and throw up some mics as well...did this one get recorded?
  14. I'm out of the city at band practice (The Maple Reefers) during the day but might make it back in time to grab my recording rig and record this...I'm a sucker when it comes to the sound of sweet singin' ladies...
  15. I was at the Ben Harper show when Galactic were the "surprise guests" on the bill at the ACC a few tours ago...it was a fantastic show...the IC are a great supporting band and Ben's bass player has so much groove... Missed the tour that had Jack Johnson opening at the MA and am still kicking myself in the ass for that one...heard it was a ton o'fun...go figure... Ben's still an excellent musician and I'm sure he'll deliver a solid show wherever he sets up camp...
  16. The public's facination with trash such as this topic is unbelievable... It is my suggestion that this topic be deleted...I'm sure anyone interested in wasting time with useless news such as this can find it on countless other useless websites... Music, first and foremost, and the bands that give us better things to converse about...
  17. Well there's 3 minutes I've lost for good...gotta get me some more of Sister Rosseta Tharpe to make up for that crap...
  18. ...LET'S DO THAT AGAIN... Thanks for that!
  19. Yah, I remember that as well and it also became, loosely, the story line for the movie "Eddie and The Cruisers"...on the dark side... C'mon, Jim's sittin' on a Caribbean beach with a bottle of rum in one hand and a fatty in the other singin' reggae tunes...
  20. Well, maybe not just for bradm...I know Ms Hux & Bouche might enjoy hearing this one again... Sorry for having to make you search for this one but click on the link, then click on the "David Drage" banner and then click on the picture of the Sistas for this gem from the now infamous "The Book" treats... Purple Rain
  21. A nice little groove from ALO...
  22. I read No One Here Gets Out Alive years ago in Junior High...and Stone's movie was fabulous...Val Kilmer was Morrison...personally I'd like to remember Morrison slipping into the great beyond while soaking in a paris tub rather than having OD in a shitty Paris nightclub with foam spewing out of his mouth...thanks Velvet for tainting that thought... Love the avatar phishtaper...now Burton ROCKS!
  23. Nothing worse than a bad clam... Yep, big fan of the Ceasar as well...what's not to love?...clamato, celery, lime, tabasco, worcestershire, salt n'peppa... Sorry that you had an unpleasant experience Ms. H but hey, after 10+years of enjoying the concoction, I'd say you got off easy with only having an off one or two... Loved reading your HM Blog!
  24. Congratulations! The festivity tremors from the shores of PEI have travelled all the way up the St. Lawrence to Lake Ontario The very best on your life long journey
  25. Nice pics you two! If you happen to read this before returning, though why you would sit yourself in front of a com-pooper in the middle of paradise is beyond my pea-brain comprehension (we Eeediots can wait for your splendid pics when you arrive home) please have Mike record a few minutes of the birds from your balcony for me...I'm hoping he brought some recording device with a stereo mic... Again, awesome pics and thanks for sharing with us!
