  1. March 5th doesn't seem to have a tonne going on (see http://www.stillepost.ca/calendar/montreal/month.php). Lovely Feathers on the 6th at Sala Rossa would be awesome. As for venues, you can always head over to Casa Del Popolo, Divan Orange, Le Cagibi (not always music) and see what they have going on. They're all in teh plateau/mile end area. Barring that head to one of the dozens of killer bars and pubs. Dieu du ciel and Reservoir have great beer, Korova can be fun too. I always enjoy Copacabana as a fallback but it might not be too impressive for a non-local. Otherwise hit up the restaurant scene which is unmatched elsewehre in terms of price and quality (IMO).
  2. my friend's a travel agent if that helps... I could put you in touch.
  3. Holy shit. How awesome is that. Tix running out apparently: http://www.etix.com/ticket/servlet/onlineSale?action=selectPerformance&searchType=venue&cobrand=popmontreal&language=en&performance_id=937738&country=GB 22 bucks each. I just bought two. Yes I'm in the UK but I'll figure something out Will Oldham's been on my "must see" list for years.
  4. Fucking hell! Richards out for the season? He's gotta be the 10th player in my lineup to go down for the season so far.
  5. My dad gave me his collection about 10 years ago and I've loved having it around since then. Great conversation piece. Been adding bits and pieces along the way, particularly jazz. Just sounds so much better on vinyl IMO. a few of my personal faves: (this one always reminds me of my childhood)
  6. D'oh! At least then I'll be on home turf.
  7. Went to bed at midnight of the 13th here in Nairobi with a raging fever, tossing and turning, basically convinced I had contracted malaria. Finally got to see a doctor in the AM after about 3-4 hours of sleep and it turns out I merely have a wierd strain of E. Coli. On a nice dose of antibiotics now, which I'll have to continue for the next week, meaning no milk, raw fruit or veg, fish, etc. as well. Quite the friday the 13th if you ask me.
  8. watch I am Trying to Break Your Heart for the first hand "as it happens" story.
  9. great. flying an overnight flight with them tomorrow. Better not serve shite like that!
  10. my favorite taco outing was in Merida, Mexico. Justly famous seafood taqueria. Lucious shrimp and crab tacos for a buck a pop
  11. Ling and I did the Aix cuisine and it was excellent. Had a mixed mushrooms starter and the smoked seafood starter (both fun and tasty), both had the halibut, which was perfectly cooked and had nice accompaniment (israeli couscous, which is fat and tender and quite creamy, with lobster sauce and seasonal veg), and closed with the chocolate fondant which was great. THey've got a pretty incredible wine selection, but be forewarned that prices range a lot. I didn't bother asking what the wine by the glass cost, and it added a big chunk to the bill. Also nice that you can pop upstairs afterward to the Suite 701 and have a nightcap or whatever. They also have a selection of about 5 open reds by the glass, good service and nice ambiance. All in all, a great night out.
  12. thanks for posting this mike. was looking for somewhere good to check out. Might try aix cuisine du terroir or verses
  13. even though it's a bit of a misread of the lyrics I think. anyway. on with the mysogyny.
  14. In town from the 20th-23rd, thought I might try to swing a night out if I can manage. Just wondering if there's anythign special going on.
  15. loose fur ps. thanks ad. something tells me a lot of this material was written aroudn their tour of russia last year
  16. Fucked Up + Aids Wolf + red Mass (= noisy!) at the Sala Rossa on the 17th Sister Suvi (who rock) and Mixylodian at Casa on the 17th Le Hot Club de Ma Rue at Divan orange on the 16th if you like gypsy swing I'd say the show brad mentioned above and any of these would be good bets
  17. KevO, how you keeping down there? Everything ok? you in Kampala? Drop me a note when time permits. Had initially planned on a Zanzibar>Pemba trip, but that would require taking a week's vacation and I simply haven't earned it (for myself). Am thinking of hitting the Kenya/Tanzania border for some nat'l parks and scuba diving. So much to see, so little time!

    CAP on GAZA

Another piece that looks more closely at what happened to the ceasefire and how it was broken, including another interesting interview with the PM's spokesman:

    CAP on GAZA

Some coverage from the UK on this. I find it very refreshing to find television here willing to press officials on their bullshit say-nothing responses. Check out this interview with the PM's spokesman that starts at about 9:00:
  20. yeah, lamu is definitely one that looks great, unfortunately it's a pricey flight so I'm trying to see if there are other options that might be interesting but cheaper
  21. My Ovechkin for your Brian Little Bouche? whaddaya say?

    Taper Help

with Adobe Audition (don't know about other softs) you can also simulate "space" between the channels so that it sounds less like 2-channel mono. Worth playing around anyway.
  23. Anyone been to Kenya? Going there for work and planning for a few days off on the coast. Any suggestions on things to see and do would be great! Thanks
  24. Ok, who needs some offense? I really need some goalkeeping. Let's make a deal!
  25. I guess Soderberg is touring the version shown at Cannes (both parts, intermission midway through, no credits) and it played in brighton tonight. Definitely worth catching. The only issue I have is that I don't think Part 1 by itself would be very satisfying, Part 2 alone even less so. Together they construct then deconstruct the "Che" mythos, in a really beautiful way. Highly recommended!
