    Velvet blog?

I'm a big fan of wordpress. Because they have so many skins you can put together something that looks quite unique relatively easily. Plus it's free (except buying a domain name, if you don't want it to be xxxx.wordpress.com). http://endaenergy.org/ <- here's the one I made.
  2. kinda wish I'd been recording there cause the rest of the set was great. The "down by the river" was amazing. Copy up on Dimeadozen for those who care. Found a clip from Seasick Steve's set. First time seeing him but I have 2 of his albums and he is just such a straightforward and genuine performer. His comment before this track explifies it.
  3. Even after watching a 2nd time I fail to understand how he broke every string on his guitar in one go.
  4. 06-27-2009, Hyde Park, London, England Hard Rock Calling 2009 Festival Neil Young & His Electric Band Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) Mansion On The Hill Are You Ready For The Country? Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Spirit Road Words Cinnamon Girl Fuckin' Up Mother Earth The Needle And The Damage Done Comes A Time Unknown Legend Heart Of Gold Old Man Down By The River Get Behind The Wheel Rockin' In The Free World Encore: A Day In The Life (WITH PAUL McCARTNEY!) Hard to go wrong! Seasick steve, Ben Harper, Fleet Foxes opened, and with the exception of the usual boring Ben Harper routine played great sets. Seasick Steve was particularly awesome. Great time all round!
  5. pretty ironic. The London papers have been running "can MJ survive 50 shows?" articles for the last week or so. Guess we'll never find out.
  6. have a great time brad and say hi to mark and christina for me. I owe them an email.
  7. congrats man. Will you be at the Neil Young show in Hyde park in 2 weeks? going to be there from the friday to the sunday I think
  8. Caught them a few weeks ago and they sounded awesome. Well worth it! Harbourfront at 8pm.

    Vietnam

I also loved Hoi Ahn which is in the middle. Lots to see along the coast!
  10. went a couple of years ago and loved it. WEnt to Forillion, and hiking in the chic chocs. There's some fantastic camping on the way. Did some kayaking there with whales and phoques (what are they in english again? seals?) all over the place. Great times.

    French forum

i'd be happy to participate if there are people looking to brush up on their French and have some fun with the language. Am in francophone West Africa right now and haven't spoken english in days. Starts to feel wierd after a while!
  15. sweet. Caught them twice, in 1994 and 1995, and really liked both shows. This is def. the sound I remember.
  16. Awesome album. Real return to form after the so-so previous outing. Highly recommended.
  17. PLus the Sadies + John Doe on May 2nd at Il Motore is pretty f'n badass as a show (hadn't seen that one before)! Definitely hit up the Bell Orchestre + Colin Stetson show if you can. Colin's played with EVERYONE, including MMW and Tom Waits (Alice and Blood Money), and the new Bell Orch stuff is well worth hearing.
  18. Nice to see. We (former interns) had been putting in a bunch of testimonial stuff to try to keep it going. Totally worthwhile programme. I'm off to spend the weekend with 4-5 other past interns, all of whom are doing great stuff on the environment and sustainable development many years later.
  19. enough with the amateur hour. Here's the real listings: http://www.stillepost.ca/calendar/montreal/month.php Only thing that's missing from there(aside from the giant Gillette Inc. shows at the Bell Centre) is the Divan orange listings which you can get from their myspace page.
  20. I prefer the vietnamese in Chinatown, but Beijing is pretty good, and La Maison Kam Fung (in the big office building) has amazing dim sum, and delicious seafood.

    Arcade Fire?

The new Bell Orchestre album is great. If you want to ask them about stuff related that here are a few points worth exploring: - Album produced by John McEntire of Tortoise (I hear some of the tortoise-ness in the new album) - Mike Feuerstack (Snailhouse) recorded with them this time, giving them a different sound palate. - Pretty much all of them are in anther band (Snailhouse, Torngat, AF, Luyas) interesting to hear the influences from these different side-bands creeping into the Bell Orch music. - They did a long residency at the Banff centre for the arts, which is where they got the name for the new album. Apparently that had a huge influence on their sound. Personally I'd avoid the whole "how is this different from Arcade Fire?" bit. Worn the hell out.
  22. Andrew Bird at Le National ($$$) Japanther at Sala Rossa Hardcore/Punk party at Foufs ($8 cover then $1 beer until midnight) Aside from that the usual fun n' games (dancing at Corova and Green Room, etc.)
