  1. I wonder where Canadian history fits into black school curriculum? Historically, there's really been an embarrassing apathy towards Canadian historical focus in regular schools. American history has a sexier (read: more interesing and violent) appeal, not to mention black kids often relate to black American pop icons more than Canadian ones. Prove my last comment to be wrong.
  2. OH YEAH!!! The Soundtrack of Our Lives are allegedly releasing their follow-up to Origin Vol.I sometime this winter or spring. Ebbot said it was their "heaviest" yet. I can't wait for this either!
  3. From Timmy: "Ryan Adams (title unknown) I'm just guessing he'll release something this year" I bet he drops a minimum of three albums this year. I totally forgot about The Raconteurs new album. Jack said it was different than their last (he says that all the time, but he's always right) and it's heavier.
  4. Not unless you are Rudy Giuliani.
  5. Well, since CTV took over, you have to apply to the Human Resources department. Apply for jobs in Operations like master control/ingest operator, VTR, tape-op. I monitor commercial and program content for 6 music networks, ingest into a massive server programs and commercials, do live show switching on occasion, make sure video keys are correct, act as a liason with producers and production to make sure the right programming goes to air etc... Other than that, I write music reviews for Jambands and watch lots of sports. I actually want a new career, but I'm pretty much to old and too entrenched in supporting my wife's school and future career path to make a switch. I'm at an advantage (depending at how you look at it) of seeing tons of videos per hour, but 70% are brutal. The channels Loud/Vibe and Retro have good videos, but PunchMuch, Much and MuchMore program awful shit, except for the odd Shins, Blue Rodeo, Ryan Adams and other videos of that ilk.
  6. 680 News radio in Toronto did a story today on this decision revealing that members of the board that voted "yes" were also the ones that wanted faith-based schools, the implication meaning they used this vote as leverage for their real agenda, which will rear its ugly head in the near future. Shame on them.
  7. The 80's has nothing to do with this decade and topic, although I think the 80's contains the worst music in recorded popular music.
  8. Thanks for the head's up on this: Teenage Head with Marky Ramone.
  9. Can someone post "Breathe" for a comparison of bad? I bet Ashlee wins hands down. Hell, even that cover by The Pussycat Dolls that Julia Stone Phillips hates so much won't even make the Top 10.
  10. And "that song" is currently rising up the charts. I realize charts mean nothing to you folks, but the success will prompt Ashlee to put out more albums, and this is unacceptable.
  11. I'm having turkey chili with sour-scream, green onions and shredded cheese on top.

I hear that Rosie O'Donnell is "looking".
  13. The worst thing about the job is that I'm paid to watch the videos that I hate so much.
  14. There's many candidates. Songs by Fergie like "Clumbsy", Britney Spears' latest "Piece of Me" and some obnoxiously catchy crap from Gwen Stefani like "Now That You Got It" or "Holla Back Girl". However the winner (or loser depending on which way you look at it) is Ashlee Simpson's latest "Outta My Head". It's a non-song: strung together verses and no chorus to speak of. Check out the Blade Runner hommage if you can make it to the middle of the video. The song gets more terrible as it goes. I sat at work in astonished horror the first time I saw the video just last week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsulZKXFxK8
  15. I'll third that... or second it if BradM is actually looking forward to the band and not just pointing them out.
  16. I'll give it a listen. I won't go out and blindly buy it given my recorded distaste for Polaris and 51 Phantom. However I like their Electric Country Review: Live at Bonnaroo album.
  17. I'm looking forward to the new Black Keys disc. Here's a video sampler with Danger Mouse. Man, this band harnesses riffs straight from blues hell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ippm4VgbTQU Of course I can't wait for MMJ's new album to drop. I hope they tour Ontario.
  18. My wife and I may be interested.
  19. Frank Lloyd Wright has nothing on Jack "Four Season Centre for the Performing Arts " Diamond.
  20. Are you going to use an existing player's number and substitute your sorry name on the back? I saw a guy wearing a Bruins #4 jersey with "MacLean" on the back.
  21. I have no idea why the CBC chose to shoot much of the skills competition with an on-ice steadycam operator on skates. The break-away competition was rendered hard to follow, jarring and boring.
  22. And the spin from the network announcers was almost all positive (not including Nick Kypreos, who hated it all). The NHL has to stop trying to use the all-star game as a vehicle to sell the game.
  23. I recommend the DVD because of the excellent bonus features. There's a feature on Mr. Awesome, extended scenes (including one scene featuring Billy Mitchell's fashion stylings) Q&A footage from various film festivals, updates on the two stars including updated Guiness Book of Records news etc...
  24. I watched a GREAT documentary tonight, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. It's funny, full of geeks, has some honest suspense and has a great villain. It's also both bittersweet and uplifting. Who would've thunk trying to beat the high score in Donkey Kong could be so compelling? I won't say any more but just rent this great film. It's the most fun documentary since Super Size Me.
  25. Pretty cool having The Hives open up the festivities, and rip it up to boot. Booche said Robert Randolph's performance last year was brutal. I wish I caught it. Gotta love Kathleen Edwards singing the Canadian anthem too. I'm changing channels now.
