I really think Michael Timmins is one of the most underrated (and I know that term is abused far too often, but it applies here) musicians/guitarists and songwriters/arrangers in Canada and the alt-country scene in general. His quiet demeanor doesn't help, but that cat can fucking play.

Toronto's identity and history has been dying by 1000 cuts for the past 40 years. You can add ten more cuts after today's fire. I'm sad and sickened by today's events.

You should put a warning spoiler before your post because many people haven't seen There Will Be Blood yet. I didn't find the ending funny at all. Ridiculous, perverse, bizarre, surreal? Yes. Funny? No, especially because the motives behind the assault are cloudy.

Generally speaking, you can never beat the films on the Turner Classic Movies channel. If you aren't in the new release/renting a DVD mood, TCM is the best TV channel on the dial, period.

I think Ryan will sing mostly back-up, maybe take a few lead vocals for a couple of verses. He'll be extremely respectful since The Trinity Session was a huge influence on Ryan (and many others since it is an album that helped usher in the alt-country movement). It's not going to be the Ryan Adams show featuring The Cowboy Junkies, even though I'd love that, as wrong as it would be.

CityTv was reporting that the area of the fire is a crime scene because of a suspected drug lab being the cause of the fire.

I'd love to see Rush at the Fest. And if Burnside got booked that would either be a huge coup or a foolish move since he's dead... or is he?

Through all my criticism of them (which pertains to their lacklustre albums), the NMA would be a nice fit for the Ottawa fest.

I'd like to see some blues hybrids play the fest like The Black Keys, The Raconteurs, Gov't Mule and even Derek Trucks.

I watched Michael Clayton and Gone Baby Gone last night. Michael Clayton is a very good film and thankfully doesn't spoon-feed the audience its plot. The best thing about the film is really Tom Wilkinson, along with the excellent directing and story. Gone Baby Gone is a pretty good film with excellent performances. Ben Affleck did a nice job directing and brother Casey is convincing even if the plot is convoluted.

I like Castro but I can't romanticize he or his country either. Cuba is a rich poor country. Many of its citizens are hungry and desperate... and proud and educated too. The US is already a trading partner with Cuba, it's just not publicized. Bring on free elections, lift the embargo and in a perfect world, keep the fucking Yanks and their "Mafia" out.

I'm happy Ryder finally scored.

His right leg came up a little bit and his shoulder connected to his upper chest and jaw. Too bad for that Russian Flyer for being shorter than Begin. It's clean enough for me. Smith should have gotten an instigator.

Brutal call on Begin. It was a clean hit all the way. I love that Smith though.

It's actually a pretty good show, however HD isn't kind during the close-ups.
